Girls Only~ OLD THREAD, new one linked in first post

Good morning all. Had a nice date with dh last night, we split our favorite meal and a small blizzard for dessert. I am busy making another cake today. Soccer balls are not easy to make into a cake! Have a great day all...11 days to go! Almost down to single digits!

Hi ladies: I hope you are all enjoying your Valentine's Day. I am at the office for a while, then off to see Mom then home to cook burgers (beef and salmon) for Brandy, her boyfriend and his daughter. We're just having burgers and chips--that's all I have the energy for these days!

The good news is my leg seems to be a little bit better today--can actually move without having to stand and let it adjust for thirty seconds or so!

the other news is that Mom told me yesterday she wants to go home and feels up to it. I am having real mixed emotions about this--she is mentally so with it (those of you who know her can vouch for that), and she has much improved physically since last week's incident. I just don't know. She has promised me she won't drive and we're going to try to get someone to come in for a couple of hours each day to help with meals, laundry, shopping, etc. I don't want her to have to give up her independence if she's not ready, KWIM? But I also want her to be safe. It's just a dilemma.

The other "bad" news is that my friend's daughter (my friend is my best friend from law school and my landlord at the office) broke her vertebrae (T-12) in her back on friday. She and her boyfriend (they lived together) were apparently "friendly" fighting and she fell. Hmmmm. Sounds suspicious to us. Especially since she has also asked if she can move home.

I'm hoping that's all the "bad" that's going to happen this month. I am so looking forward to seeing all of you at the end of the month.

Lova ya Divas!

Cheryl

Happy Valentines Day! Today in Sunday School my kids made valentines and decorated cupcakes and we talked about how God loves us and how we should love others. I let the kids eat one cupcake and take one to give to someone else, and when I asked them who they were giving theirs to they said "no one, I'm saving it for me to eat later"! :headache: So we went over whole "loving others" concept again and I'm not sure they got the connection, but we have been working on it for a few weeks now. They are only 6 so there's still time.....:)

So I noticed that HoJo is now offering the same 50% discount that you get with the Entertainment card to AP holders, so if you don't have an Ent. card, you don't need to worry about getting one if you have an AP. I imagine we all have ours now for this trip but that will help a lot in the future for those who don't usually get the Ent. book. I always get them because I save way more than the cost of the book with the Safeway and car rental coupons alone, not to mention the other random coupons I use or give to the kids.

I don't usually get new undies before vacation, but I was inspired by all the talk and got some the other day. What other traditions does everyone have before a trip? I always plan my hair appointments to coincide with any trips I have planned and I get a manicure and/or pedicure the day before. That is the only time I get them; my manicurist always asks me "where are you going this time?" So I will leave work early on Wednesday for my 3:00 appointment (manicure only this time since I won't be wearing sandals) and that indicates the official start of my vacation.

I keep thinking there is more I should be doing to get ready. I have all my shirts and my pillowcase stuff. I still need to get candy and try to find a tiara. I will probably start putting stuff in my suitcase next weekend. Besides all the shirts I really only need underwear, socks, and my 3 identical pairs of jeans (wear one pack two). Oh and my pajamas. I have been trying to find fun new ones for the party but will probably just wear my old boring ones. Are the HoJo hair dryers good? I am hoping not to have to bring mine.

My computer is BROKEN so have been using my laptop, but there is work I need to finish and I can't get to it. I am afraid that I am going to have to send it in to get warranty repair, so who knows how long that will take! Ugh! I am dreading calling the help line again because I was on the phone with them for 86 minutes yesterday trying to get it to work.

I hope everyone has a great Valentines Day! We are going to Olive Garden for a late lunch. Bryan is working today so he might get to greet us and seat us at our table. That will be fun.

I'm in the mood for bacon and eggs this morning, please :thumbsup2
Sorry no bacon. We had eggs, soyrizo (vege chorizo), hashbrowns, cinnamon toast and fruit. It was good and I'm full.

Yes, the Rodeo Drive reference was funny! It was actually in the "bloopers" at the end of the movie. :)
Oh okay. He was just telling me about it. Too funny.

I am working on it though and it looks like I may still be able to come as planned.
Oh good! I'm glad to hear that. :goodvibes

You have a wonderful family!! Enjoy your day with them!! :)
Back at ya! :)

Happy Valentines Day, ladies! No big plans here. We're dog-sitting our besties' lab, so I think we'll walk her to Starbucks a little later.
Enjoy your walk.

Good morning all. Had a nice date with dh last night, we split our favorite meal and a small blizzard for dessert.
Sounds nice!

The good news is my leg seems to be a little bit better today--can actually move without having to stand and let it adjust for thirty seconds or so!
Good to hear!!
About your mom, maybe you can still look into some places just to have the information about them. Then if you find one you really like maybe she'll be interested in moving there. It is hard. But you don't want her to fall again and this time really end up injuring herself. It's a hard choice. Good luck to you both.

She seems nice. Her family has got moola though and she is very "preppy" according to Noelle. So we'll see. I mean it's his first girlfriend so I'm not too worried. ;)

Oh no, Ruben told me right away. LOL I meant to explain that Adam told Ruben about his new GF and not me. Sort of a father/son thing. But of course Ruben came and told me about it that night. ;)

Ah, thanks for explaining.
And Adam ending up with a family with moola (eventually) is not a bad thing. ;)

Hi girls! It has been a pretty lazy day. I slept in, then I worked from 1-8.
Now I am watching the Olympics.
.

Did you see Apollo's win? That was great.

Kelly, it depends on how the weather is on the trip and whether you tend to run hot or cold. They do allow your foot to breathe more than the synthetic ones, but I tend to wear mine when it's cold here, otherwise they warm me up too much. BTW, I don't wear mine in the rain. Even though they say you can wash them, I see a difference in the texture. What thoughtful Valentine's Day gifts!

Happy Valentine's Day to all the divas!:goodvibes

Happy Valentines Day!! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Cheryl, sounds like your mom knows what she wants, it's so hard to have to be the responsible one!! It's like now they're the kid and we're the parent!

Katie, I SO hope you can join us for as much time as you can spare! I know there are so many ladies who are close by who could help out in a pinch. If I was driving out, I'd definitely be able to.

I did see the AP discount being 50%, I wonder if they're keeping it at that or going to change it later...

I'm going to get new undies this week! Haven't had any for awhile so it's time. I don't do the manis and pedis, it always chips off too quickly. I usually paint my own toe nails once it's sandals weather. I'll probably start packing next weekend too, I have a little pile started in the bedroom with coffee, chocolate, you know, the important stuff. I'll probably wear pj's I already have, unless I find some cute ones when I go shopping for the undies.

I can't believe we're down to 11 days! It's so exciting!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Oh, almost forgot, DH, DS and DD cleaned my van inside and out for Valentine's Day. I had told them that's all I wanted, but it needed to be good. The carpet was filthy!! They even ran the carpet cleaner on it. Part of it was due to a bet DH and I made and whoever lost had to wash the other's car/van. Since I won, I just asked them to add the cleaning to the washing! AWESOME!!

/
Quick question for those of you with Uggs. How do you clean them? :confused3
I don't have Uggs, but the boots I have are sheepskin so I thought maybe I could use the same technique and it would work. They are filthy. I never sprayed them with protective spray so they are really dirty. But so comfy that I don't want to toss them.

Oh, and just an FYI. The first day of our trip went from rainy and 63 to no rain showing and 73 on accuweather.
I'm happy about the no rain part. I really didn't want actual rain, maybe a small drizzle. But 73? That's getting warm........ well, for me. ;)

:thumbsup2 Nice.

Carol, no mani or pedis for me other than the ones I do myself. And no hair salon visits either. I do have identical pairs of jeans though! I thought I was the only one who did that. Once I find a pair that works, I buy more than one, especially when they are on sale or I have a coupon. :thumbsup2

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

We are having a very mellow day here. I took the boys to breakfast at Mimi's Cafe this morning and Dave and I enjoyed watching Ty flirt with all the women in the restaurant. He was dressed up in a red check shirt and his "Little Flirt" bib and thus made quite the cute little cupid if I do say so myself.

Now he is taking a nap and Dave went to the grocery store to pick up the things he needs to make dinner tonight, so I am catching up on DVR tv and enjoying the relative quiet. Tonight we will flip back and forth between Olympics and the NBA All Star Game--not very romantic, but it will make Dave happy and thus will make me happy too.

Then tomorrow I am using the extra day off from work to get my highlights touched up and hopefully grab a pedi too as I haven't had one since November.

Hope that today is filled with love and happiness for all of you!

Well we survived the party. It went off great and Katie had such a great time. We are all really whipped today. I have lots of candy to bring that was left over from Katie's candy bar. The food and cake was so yummy. I will try to post some pictures but don't have a lot yet since a good friend who is a photographer took them for us at no cost.

How do I add photos?

Glad the party went well! My cake turned out way better than I expected so I am very pleased!

Take care,
SarahMay

So happy to hear your leg is feeling better. :thumbsup2

A home aid who could help your mom out a few hours everyday is a great idea if your mom wants to go back home. It is hard when our elderly parents are so mentally intact, yet physically they are fragile and weak. (Sigh) I don't know.....it's hard not to exhaust what options are available to keep her in her home if that's what she wants to do, but at the same time carefully weighing the risks. I pray that everything works out.

You gotta love the thinking of little ones....hey, at least you know they love themselves.

Enjoy your dinner at the Olive Garden.

Wow, what a good friend you are to do that. I need 2 birthday cakes (one for Ryan and one for Luke) in June if you're available. :goodvibes ;)

Are you going to post a picture of your masterpiece soccer cake? :hyper:

You live in VEGAS! How can 73 be hot?! :confused3

Afternoon all!

Cheryl I hope you take it easy! You are so sweet to make dinner for your friends and to take Brandy in while she is down. I just hope you don't overdo for yourself. It seems like you are taking on a lot. Give yourself a break!!! I am glad your mom is feeling better and I hope you guys can come to the best decision. I know that is the HARDEST thing esp when they aren't ready or willing to go to a home. Good luck!!! ((hugs))

Stacielee that sounds awesome. I am to the point now where when my kids ask what I want I tell them just clean your room or the house etc and that's all I want. My car needs to be cleaned SO bad. I bet yours looks awesome!!

Patty I THOUGHT your daughter's party was this weekend. So glad she and everyone had a good time. Can't wait to see pics!! That is so awesome that you did this for her. I bet she loved it! :)

Donna thanks so much for letting me know about the boots. I usually only wore my fake ones up to the mountains or when it was raining. Now of course that I have NICE ones I don't want to ruin them. I am afraid even with the protective spray they might get ruined. I am wearing them tonight though cuz it is still a bit chilly here and they are SOOOO comfy! I usually run cold but if it DOES warm up I know they would probably get too hot for me so that is the dilema. I guess I will wait to see what the temps are running. I know last year I was cold the whole time.

Sara so glad you had a nice night last night and that is really cool of you to make those cakes. I agree with capri, I want to see pics!! ;)

Jane so glad you were able to have a nice day with your guys! Enjoy your evening!!

As for me we have just been relaxing most of the day but are getting ready to leave here in a few minutes. We haven't been able to go out by ourselves in prob a year since Lynn moved out. She was here part of last year but after everything that happened we didn't trust her to leave her alone with the girls anymore. It's a long story but my parents are gone most weekends and so we don't really have a babysitter. Luckily the girls are ALMOST old enough to stay home by themselves. We let Lynn stay home and babysit THEM when she was 12 so a few more years.

I am really looking forward to getting out of the house! It will be nice! The weather here has gotten gorgeous. I hope we are so lucky on our trip!!

Again I hope everyone has a GREAT rest of your day and talk to you tomorrow!! :)

Tonight we will flip back and forth between Olympics and the NBA All Star Game--not very romantic, but it will make Dave happy and thus will make me happy too.

Us too - only I've become the sports watching nerd.

h, and just an FYI. The first day of our trip went from rainy and 63 to no rain showing and 73 on accuweather.
)

You can use a damp cloth on them - I just did that with some older ugg slippers and put them in the sun. Came out nice. Ugg advertises that you can toss in the washer but when I did it once I felt it changed the texture of the skin too much. I do use the protective spray first. Has anyone else here had luck with the washer?

Kelly, I hear you about not wanting scuff marks all over your new Uggs - DL can be brutal that way.

Beth, glad you found accuweather... I could only see to 2/23 on weather.com and they had it raining then. 73 would be very nice I think!
Okay, I'm off to the gym.

I haven't watched one minute of the Olympics and doubt I will. We just aren't into them here.... :confused3

Well we survived the party. It went off great and Katie had such a great time.
I saw your FB pics!!! Everything looked great. Good job mom. :thumbsup2 And your DD is so pretty, and she was just beaming.
Still no pics of you I see....... :rolleyes1 ;) LOL

Glad the party went well! My cake turned out way better than I expected so I am very pleased!
YAY! I want cake.

Whooooo HOOOOOOOOO!!! Bring on the warm weather! :cheer2: :sunny::smooth:
 Stop that.

You live in VEGAS! How can 73 be hot?! :confused3
It just is. Whether I'm here or SoCal or Michigan, 73 is hot to me when I'm out running around in it. I prefer to be inside when the temps reach into the 70's. :thumbsup2

You can use a damp cloth on them - I just did that with some older ugg slippers and put them in the sun. Came out nice.
Thanks for the info. :)

Hey girls!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day. :lovestruc

Hey yourself. :goodvibes How was your day?

Quiet day here. Hope everyone had a nice day.

We went down to Planet Hollywood for the grand opening of Sugar Factory.
Saw Holly formerly of Girls Next Door, along with Kendra and her DH Hank, Mel B, and "The Situation" from Jersey Shore.
And I got my Valentine's Day present in Silver Rainbow: http://sugarfactory.com/index.php/celebrity/kim_kardashian
They are fun blingy "couture" lollipops. ;)

Then we had lunch at Earl of Sandwich. I'm tired now and ready to kick back with some tv.

Later!! :)
