*Girls DL Trip* OLD THREAD

Hi,

My name is Ann and I'm interested in participating in the 2010 trip. I live in Pasadena CA and would love to meet more girls like me who love Disneyland.

Do I need to read the 185 pages of posts to know what to do? Could someone fill me in?
HI Ann! Welcome to our thread. We'd love to have you join us. I know Pasadena pretty well. I grew up in the LA, Burbank and Glendale areas. :thumbsup2

You do not have to read all 185 pages. lol Unless you are really bored. ;)

So far whatever basic plans we have are on the front page. We are a group of ladies who love Disney and meet up at least once a year to have some fun! Each person is in charge of booking their own transportation, hotel, etc. It's not a tour group with strict schedules. We'll have options for meals, tours, etc that you can sign up for as it gets closer.

The hotel we are staying at is the HoJo Anaheim. We've used them the last two times and it's worked out great. A few might stay onsite if a great rate shows up between now and then.

On the front page you will also find pics of the group and from the last trip.

If you have any specific questions please don't hesitate to ask here on the thread or send me a Pm and I'll be happy to help you out.

Again welcome!!!

Welcome Ann!
The first few posts of this thread have all the concrete information that we have decided upon thus far. We still have quite a ways until our next trip so if you stay on top of the thread, you'll know what's going on and when!

Pretty much the low down is we, girls who love Disney, get together for a few days, arrange meals, tours, etc and just enjoy the magic together. We find roomies and I'm pretty sure about 90% of our group is staying at Howard Johnson Hotel, which is within walking distance of Disneyland. It's a blast!

Thank you for the sweet little animated welcome banner. I've never stayed at HoJo's before, but have heard good things. Even living so close to Disneyland, it's still wonderful to stay overnight close by and get to the parks early. Look forward to meeting you/

In regards to the planning ladies, how's this for a start for the meals? We know we want to plan at least one group meal per day right?

Thursday
Arrival day
Everyone will be arriving at different times, so what about a counter service lunch for those there in time for it. Either at Pacific Wharf in DCA or at Rancho del Zocalo in DL.
Dinner will be at the Meet and Greet like last time.

Friday
Princess lunch
Carnation Cafe for dinner

Saturday
Goofy's kitchen for dinner (that's what won right?? My brain is tired right now, lol)

Sunday
Cafe Orleans for lunch (and Club 33 for a lucky few if Heather does that again!)
Cove Bar for drinks

Monday
Wine Country Trattoria lunch

Tuesday
Departure Day
Perhaps a farewell breakfast at Riverbelle Terrace?

Just tossing that out there. We need a starting point, but feel free to make changes/suggestions/ideas. :goodvibes

Night ladies. I'm pooped.

I saw the pictures and was happy to realize I'm not the only woman over 21 who still loves Disneyland. It will be great fun to meet all of you.

Do any of the members have annual passes. They sometimes have good discounts at the hotels with those, but I'm thinking that the late February dates (being a popular time for Disney) might not offer any. Did anyone try this in March 2009?

Hey ladies.

I hope you all are having a great night.

It has been unseasonably chilly here. I wish summer would just get here already.

I am still so behind on this thread. I feel so out of the loop.

Maddie got her exchange gift from Lisa's DD. She loved it and it was a really nice surprise for her. I took a pic and will post it on the exchange thread tomorrow.

A while back..in March, I mentioned divorcing DH. Well, I am filing tomorrow for divorce. We tried for the 4th time to make it work and it isn't. He is already moved out and I am talking to a lawyer. I know I ask for prayers a lot...but if I could just get a few. This has been a tough time in our home. I appreciate it so much.

And to the other ladies going through some tough times lots of hugs coming your way.:hug::hug::hug::hug:

I will try to read back before going to bed.

Cya!

Oh January, I'm so sorry! Please remember that we are all here for you! :grouphug:

You are way organized! LOL

I would love to have a CS at Pacific Wharf Cafe--love love love the soup in a bread bowl!! Yum!

Me too!!!!!!

There's a thread or a website or something where it tells step by step how to make it; it looks VERY easy!! We can do it!!

Just got back from seeing Up with Heather & Nathan. What a cute movie. They came over for dinner then the rest of my family went to the water park and we went to the movies. Definitely worth seeing!! And it was nice to see Heather again. We're getting together again on Thursday, probably just do some shopping. Then she goes home on Friday. Anyone else coming to Phoenix, where it was 113 today!! :headache:

What fun!

Welcome Ann!

Well ladies, I have a busy week! We have a party for 100 on Wednesday, plus I have my normal personal cheffing job that day. I will be doing some interesting scheduling this week, for sure!

So I'll try to check in, but if I don't get a chance to, much love to all!

((hugs)) bridgette. I remember when I went off to school it was hard and also as I mentioned before when I moved to Washington with my ex-husband leaving my family was SO hard as well. I think you are right, once school starts and you have stuff to keep you busy hopefully it will get a LITTLE easier. I am glad you are getting to meet some of the gals for your birthday. They are all GREAT and you will have a LOT of fun!! :)

Happy Birthday early in case I forget on Thursday! ;)

Thanks Kelly! I have been pretty good today and didn't get choked up when I talked to my mom on the phone. I actually had a great time at class and then came home, ate some lunch then headed to the laundromat. I felt like an idiot I had to ask for help with the machines. It was like laundry heaven! I could do 4 loads at once. Why didn't I think of this before?! I almost passed out because it got really hot in there but I kept folding and got the heck out as quickly as possible. Now I'm having a hard time, but I took my ambien and now I'm about to go to bed once it works. You're so sweet thank you so much for sharing your story!

Hugs and more motherly hugs to Brigette!!!

Thanks Melody! I needed a motherly hug right now. Almost 25 year olds still need mommies too! Hug back!

Hi Bridgette, sorry we didn't get to meet up last week, looks like you were there until the 6th and we were there the 7-8. Definitely in October though!

I know what you're going through. I moved out from my mom's home in Michigan to Arizona when I was 24; I had stayed at home to go to college so this was my first time leaving home. It was fun, sad, exciting, all that!! But that was 22 years ago this month, and I know you'll be fine. It just takes time. I remember that soon after I moved into my 1st apartment, I got strep throat! I think I called my mom every day, probably more than once a day. I needed her to come take care of me!!! :cloud9: Then I met my DH 6 months after moving there and as they say, the rest is history!!

I know I saw that you were there at the same time as me at first, but then I moved my trip forward. Oh well, you're right, I'll see you in October! Thanks for sharing your story as well. It really helps make me feel better.

Bridgette, I'm not that far from you now that you're in SB (maybe 30 minutes at the most?). If you ever need anything or someone to talk/hang out with, I'm here in the 805! PM me if you need to!!

I'm going to PM you in a sec! I thought about you when I drove through Oxnard on the way to Disneyland on the 2nd and again when I went to orientation last Wednesday and had to drive to almost Oxnard territory to find a Target. Doesn't it figure that I get over $400 in Target gift cards for graduation and the closest one is in Ventura? I still have $120ish left, but I'll probably save that for clothes. I love Target's clothes!

To echo what everyone else said, just about 34 years ago I went away to college and met my roomie who eventually became my sister. She was the one who visited this past weekend. There's an old saying--when one door closes another opens--and that is definitely true. Just hang in there--it will get better once you start school today and start meeting other people. It's hard to be out of your comfort zone but so worth it in the long run. (P.S.--I'm Episcopalian too! But BAAAADDDDDD and haven't been to church in several years)

You're so right about the door close/open quote. It's just really hard to put your foot through the door sometimes. I'll be okay once I have projects other than unpacking to think about. You're so sweet to be the one comforting me. And don't worry about the bad Episcopalian thing.... after all, we're Episcopalian. We have real wine in church and are the most liberal Christian denomination. I call us rebel-Catholics. Our services are very similar, but waaaay more laid back. I usually never go to church unless its Christmas, Ash Wednesday, or Easter, but I did sing in that choir and went every Sunday for about 5 + years. I thought that by going, it would be easier for me to cope with everything and it is. Almost everyone there is much older than me but they're all so wonderful! I'd almost prefer it that way. I usually can't stand people my age. The parishioners who sat in the same pew as me invited me into the courtyard for coffee and another lady showed me all of the tables out there. There is a table of offering where the members who grow fruits and veggies at home bring some and let you take it home. The woman was so funny she grabbed a handful of baby lemons and shoved them into my hands. Maybe I'll make a delicious drink with them or something.

This is really a great group of ladies, and you have been a wonderful and welcome addition to it. :grouphug

That would be nice. It's nice to be able to meet up with someone from the group now and then. I hope it works out that you two are able to do that. :wizard:

Thanks  and I know it will work out. I'm sending the PM soon!

Thanks Linda. We need all the pixie dust we can get. :goodvibes

Pixie dust from me too!

Hey everyone .

I've been a little busy lately watching my nephews. My sisters MIL had a heart attack and usually watches them most of the time. She's stable now, but still in the hospital until they finish tests and decide if they need to do surgery. I was only watching them twice a week before she got sick. They've also been spending the night here and there because of my sisters & BIL's funky work hours.

It's just really hard to get anything done when you're watching 5 kids. I'm all for helping out in times of need, but she really needs to put them in daycare. I still have to concentrate on looking for a job & keeping up with daily tasks around the house & it's becoming overwhelming.

I know if it will be long term my sis will put them in daycare, but for now she is enjoying not having to pay. I thought about asking her for money, but I'm just not good at that sort of thing. Even when people owe me, I never ask.

Just wanted to check in with you all when I had a free minute. Hope everyone is well.

Katie you're so sweet to do that. You have such a loving and caring heart!
Drive by hi!

:wave2:

Feels like its been so long since I have been on. Its been so busy around here. The town next to us had their little festival this weekend. My daughter Katelyn was in the parade as one of her last requirements of being Miss Golddust (our city festivals royalty). We are also getting ready for cheer camp and will be hosting the overnighter again and driving them to Ellensburg this weekend. The following week is my son's baseball camp. I think we will finally have a breather after that and then I have my surgery on the 11th of August and out of work for about 5 weeks. Feels like we just started summer!:rotfl2:

If you don't come back before then, I'll be praying for your surgery and speedy recovery on the 11th of August!

I am soooo in the planning mood! I really would like some room mates though. I am willing to stay either GCH or Howard Johnsons! Can't wait for February!:cheer2:

I even ordered my tie dyed shirt today! LOL

I like the one on disneyshopping.com!

You are way organized! LOL

I'm jealous, I SO am not! I have been watching Harry Potter with envy. I can't help but think, "if I only had a magic wand that worked..."

Oh, I SO want to try and make a Mickey tie dye shirt, maybe we need to have a get together so we can make shirts together!

Maybe that's what I can try to keep busy... making Mickey tie dies. I'm crafty!

Stop that! There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for prayers.... ask away because I truly believe in the power of prayer. It's gotten me through many binds and I'm not a holy roller. I am going to church now, but still. I will pray for your strength as you go through the divorce proceedings. Stay strong and know you have so much support here!

As luck would have it, I'll be at Disneyland on Thursday. When and where is the party?

Sending you a PM!

Good morning ladies! Just a short hello. I need to start getting my work done. Shock, I know.

What the!? There's no Target over there!? That's craziness!! There's 2 in Ventura. One in the mall and one down the street from the mall. The one in the mall is newer and nicer (and 2 story!). I was actually at the mall yesterday. If you need a Target shopping buddy, call/text me! Ventura is about 5 minutes from me.

Morning all.

First off January I am SOOO sorry for what you are going through. I know how tough it is as I have gone through a divorce myself. Not with a child though so I am really sorry that you have to do that but I am here for you if you EVER want to talk. If you still have the phone list you are more than welcome to call me ANYTIME and talk!! ((Hugs)) to you and you are a strong gal!! Are you still going to be able to come in Feb? If not I am sure we all understand but I sure hope so because I know I will miss you and I am sure the others will too but we will understand if you can't. Again many hugs and prayers to you and please don't hesitate to pm or call if you EVER want to talk!!

And yes I am ALWAYS wanting to talk about planning :). Course I am open to whatever you guys want to do. I don't have a tie dye shirt yet but I really like that mickey one. I might have to look into ordering one though cuz I am SO not crafy LOL. Also we need to decide on a group shirt! :) I just hope we can get one ordered somewhere cuz I can SO not make one ;) Mom and I are going to arrive probably Thurs afternoon like last time and we are leaving probably Monday afternoon like last time. So we would probably def be able to do the WCT lunch again. I'm just excited about WHATEVER we do. I didn't see any mention of a scavenger hunt. Are we doing that again? Actually I think that's on the first page. DUH! That was probably my fav part. Do we get our same names and teams? If so I hope Mary Jo would be willing to be on Mom's and I team again and we would love to have one of the new gals join us as well if need be although they may make a whole new team.

Anyway today we are off here in a few minutes to go to that hearing. I will def report back on how that went. Other than that just swim tonight. Not too much the rest of the week thank goodness. :)

Hope everyone has a GREAT day and GREAT rest of the week!

Oh January, I'm so sorry. Sounds like you gave it the best effort that you could. Take comfort that the decision was obviously not taken lightly. You are a great mom. I'm just so sorry that you're having to deal with all of this. Biggest of hugs. I'm available if you want to talk.

Thanks everyone for the "new job" pixie dust. :goodvibes

January - Oh babe, I'm here for you if you need anything, and of course I'll keep you in my prayers!

Katie - You're in my prayers too.....I'll pray that you keep your sanity while watching all those kids. :rotfl:

Molly - I wish I could come over and help you organize.

Ann - WELCOME! :yay:

Brigette - Hang in there babe. You're doing great.

Kelly - You hang in there too.

Debra - Oooh, Silver Mountain Resort.....sounds like fun! :woohoo:

Cheryl - How are you doing?

And big hugs for the rest of my Diva babes! :grouphug: :grouphug:

Welcome, Ann! I hope to meet you on Thursday!

Hi everyone else. :goodvibes (Where is Dawn?)

I look forward to meeting you too, but I can't make it Thursday. Hope there will be another chance soon to meet some divas. I need to have some role models to get ready for February.

Ann

January, prayers going your way to help you get thru this trying time.

Bridgette, hang in there......you'll have good days & sad days, but once you get settled & into a routine, you'll find each day a bit easier. I sure wish I could join you all for your birthday....Have a great time!!! Someone give her a "mom" hug from me!!!

Planning so far looks great....still hoping to pull this trip off somehow!!!

Still in limbo-land....Mike's been applying all over & still no bites. Not sure if we're going north or south.....this will be based on where he can find work that pays decently. We may just be stuck here!

To everyone else....hope you're doing good & I send best wishes to all!!!

Almost forgot..........Welcome Ann!!!!!!!!! You'll love it here!!

the bad Episcopalian thing.... after all, we're Episcopalian.

I call us Episcopalians "Catholic Lite"--all of the fun ritual without any of the guilt.

My other favorite Episcopal quote? "We believe in everything and nothing."

Do any of the members have annual passes. They sometimes have good discounts at the hotels with those, but I'm thinking that the late February dates (being a popular time for Disney) might not offer any. Did anyone try this in March 2009?
Many of the ladies, if not most, have annual passes. Right now most of us are booking rooms at HoJo Anaheim using the Entertainment Rate. That gets us a premium room in Bldg. 1 for $79 a night. All our trip dates are good for the ET rate except the very last night.

I would suggest booking a room now to make sure you have one and then worry about a roommate later. It doesn't cost anything to book a room or to cancel it, but better to have it.

Also we need to decide on a group shirt! :)

I didn't see any mention of a scavenger hunt. Are we doing that again?
Yes, we are doing the hunt again. I think it worked out nicely doing it on a Saturday, but I guess that will be up to the hunt committee. It would also work out nicely that day since our meal is Goofy's for dinner.
And yes, we need one group tee. I think we have a few who wanted to submit designs to vote on. :yay: The rest of the time we will be wearing matching colors and the Tink tee from last time (or a plain white one will work if you don't have the Tink tee.)

Hey Beth, here's a couple of different links on making our own Mickey tie dye shirt, do you want to add them to the first page:

DIY: Make a Tie-Dye Mickey Mouse Shirt for a Disney Trip

Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt (this one also has lots of pictures)

Also, the link for the Etsy website doesn't work anymore. When I searched on Etsy for Mickey tie dye, this is the page that comes back: http://www.etsy.com/search_results....uery=mickey+tie+dye+&order=date_desc&ship_to=
Sure. I know for a fact I will not attempt to make my own. :scared1: LOL I just bought a regular tie dye tee to wear.

I can't remember who it was that already bought a Mickey tie dye tee. Was that Theresa?

Planning so far looks great....still hoping to pull this trip off somehow!!!
I'm hoping too!!! I really want you to come. :wizard:

Are we able to get the tink tshirts? Is it something we can print out and iron on or is it from zazzles?:flower3:

For last year's Tink tee, you actually have the option of both. Some of the ladies printed out an iron on transfer and some ordered one from Zazzle. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the print out or the Zazzle info anymore. I know some of the other ladies saved it though so hopefully one of them will see your post and help you out with that. :thumbsup2
