Girl scout cookie question........

It depends where you are. Our council started auto-deducting from the troop account this year. You order the cookies and then within a VERY short time frame they pulled the money straight out of our account....here's the kicker....if the money wasn't in the account, the TROOP LEADERS were held personally financially liable for any overdraft charges. We'd never collected money up front before, but you bet we did this year. (didn't demand it, but if it was offered, we took the cash)....I also paid out of my pocket for the deadbeats on my pre-order so that the money was in the bank on time and then I just paid myself back.

We are involved with girl scouts this year and our cookie sale ran from Sept till Nov which is when the cookies were delivered. We were instructed by our troop leader to collect the money upfront & no checks. When Dd#1 was involved 15 yrs ago we collected money after the cookies came in and checks were accpeted so:confused3Idk what to think. Mary

My older daughter's Troop Leader is the opposite she only wants checks no cash.

You're in the same council I am...as a leader, we were very worried about the way the money was collected this year. We could be personally liable for a ton of cash and they sprung it on us at the last minute. I put a number of beginning of the year purchases on my credit card and then didn't pay myself back to make sure there was money in that account. I have to say that I was very very irritated by the whole thing.

Lara...I'm aghast. That's wrong. Try and get a bounced charge from me after you suck out money without notice. GSHUSA is starting to piss me off.

Like I said, we were NOT happy with this. Our understanding is that GSCM (Girl Scouts of Central Maryland) ordered a ton of cookies last year (not taking the recession into account when they did their order) and ended up getting stuck with a bunch of cookies that didn't sell. They also got stiffed for a bunch of cookies. This year they figured they'd pass the pain down to us.

Sometimes I wonder if they forget that we're all volunteers.

Oh, they don't forget, they remember very well we are volunteers. That's why we get such a boatload of crap. It's this kind of treatment that's dragging GSUSA down.

No one likes being shown how little they are appreciated and the councils are VERY GOOD at showing exactly how much they appreciate us. Which is somewhere around 0%.

I continue because my girls love it, but I am thisclose to telling them where to shove their cookies and nuts.

My dh ordered some cookies from someone at work, they just delivered the cookies to him this past week and collected the money when they gave him the cookies.

I'll just add that it takes like a month to get the cookies.

in.

Wow--thats low balling the time around here---we start taking orders the end of Dec and the delivery date the cookie truck comes in is March 14th!! So its a good three months after you order them that they come in!
We also don't take checks made out to the troop for delivery but we take checks made out to girl scouts council...this way if they bounce its their headache not ours.

Oh trust me, I am not worried at all about getting the cookies. We live in a small town, there is no way this guy would run off with $24. LOL.

My vent is why my manager would pay for my cookies out of the cash register when there were no cookies. Forcing me to pay up front because why should the owner be involved in this? If she paid out of her own pocket, I would have told her I will pay her when I have my cookies.

Hi Marie! I agree with you completely... the manager should not have paid for the cookies without talking to you first and should definitely not have paid for it with the company's money. Not cool. :sad2:

We just got our cookies to deliver an hour ago, my wife and I paid for the order out of our pocket, and most people pay when they get cookies but some want to pay up front. My daughter will start delivering today.

Also, we don't pay for the cookies until the cookies are delivered and we've received the money. I can promise you if council around here starts pulling crap like taking it out BEFORE we get paid, they'll be kissing off my 2 troops for cookies sales. Homey don't play like that.
