Girl on plane not able to use bathroom

And your opinion means more? :confused3

Opinion is all any of us can really give.

It's not really a matter of opinion. Once the plane begins to taxi, it is not obligated to let people use the restroom until take off.

A poster stated that JetBlue needs to train their staff better. That is a bad opinion as the staff did what they were supposed to do.

The opinion comes in "the parents need to plan better" vs "the airline needs to train better" not about what the plane was or wasn't doing.

One of the most memorable (and not in a good way) flights I ever took was when Northwest was still flying. I couldn't be happier that they are no longer in business.

As I boarded the plane I happened to overhear the gate attendant talking on the phone about needing to bring in a pilot. I assumed she was talking about another flight, but

We sat on the ground in the plane at the gate for 2 hours while we waited for a pilot. No one was allowed to get out of their seats. When I asked the flight attendant if I could at least use my cell phone to call my husband to delay his trip to the airport to pick me up, of course the answer was "no". I had asked politely, but she made it clear that if I argued with her about it, I would be "non-compliant". And I'm usually the one the flight attendants become friendly with. (I've bought them food when they didn't have time, etc, etc.)

I thought this was addressed a few years ago when the FAA released the new expanded airline passenger protections, which SPECIFICALLY included providing access to lavatories and water in the event of an extended tarmac delay. I don't know how they define "extended" but if JetBlue wants to blame this on FAA regulations, as they do in their tweet, they should be more specific.

I never ready anywhere that there was an extended delay on the tarmac for this flight. I think they would have mentioned this if it was the case. My impression is that this was a typical "waiting in line for takeoff" kind of wait on the tarmac where there is move up and wait, move up and wait, move up and wait, until it is your turn for the runway.

ETA - I found an article that said they were delayed 30 minutes.

I found that they only have to provide food and water if the delay is over 2 hours. No time was given for what the FAA considers reasonable for the bathroom. I still think, due to the passenger Bill of Rights, that vaguely blaming the FAA for not allowing the person to use the bathroom on the tarmac is insufficient. The FAA clearly allows people to use the bathroom while the plane is on the tarmac in some situations, so I would like the airline to explain why they did not think this situation was one of those. It's possible JetBlue was reasonable, but if so I don't think they have done a good job of making the case.

I think the FAA is fine when folks are moving about the cabin when the plane is sitting still for an extended time. I don't think that was the situation in the OP.

I just told you the airline doesn't need to train better. They did what they were supposed to do. Let me know if I need to explain that further but hoping that won't be necessary.

And that is your opinion. Plain and simple. You were not there, you can only give an opinion the same as the rest of us. In YOUR OPINION the mother should have planned better and in the opinion of others, the airline should train better.

My personal opinion is that it was probably a little of both.

There is no reason to be rude. And I really do not "need" you to explain anything, thanks though. :goodvibes

Actually I didn't give an opinion on whether the mom should have planned better. That is irrelevant.

And no it is not my opinion about the JetBlue staff. There are regulations in play and they acted according to those regulations. That is NOT opinion, that is fact.

The problem is if one person is allowed to get up, then others will decide they need to go too and then you'll never takeoff. I've seen it in the air - they will make the announcement that the seat belt sign is on and to stay in your seat but then one person gets up anyway and before you know it, others are getting up. I flew on Sunday and one woman was practically falling all over the aisle trying to get back to her seat.

You are apparently knowledgeable about those regulations. I've been trying to find written documentation of the actual regulations and maybe you can direct me?
