OK, I have not tried these yet (disclaimer;) ) , but read this little article in a magazine and thought it might be worth passing on to anyone interested (I will be ordering some and trying them in January- just in case!):

"For many people, summer invariably means a trip to an amusement park. Perhaps you've given up on the roller coasters and other whirly rides because you no longer have the stomach for it. This summer it's going to be different. You can join your kids on the wildest of rides if you make use of one simple natural compound - ginger. Ginger has not only been used for ages to effectively combat nausea and motion sickness, but it does this without the drowsiness caused by many over-the-counter medicines. But ever since ginger has been taken out of most ginger ales in favor of artificial flavors, it's been tough to find palatable forms of the root. Now there are Preggie Pops, a tasty ginger-filled lollipop made to ease morning sickness for moms. They're easy to keep in your purse, don't go bad in the heat and taste great. Yes, they're made for pregnant women, but they work equally well for someone who wants to ride the Tilt-A-Whirl. Suck one or two on the way to the amusement park and a couple more during the course of the day."

I checked out the web site and it certainly looks legit: http://www.preggiepops.com/preg/

Has anyone ever tried these? Wish I had found these 9 months ago for my DD - poor thing's been sick through her entire pregnancy!

I've often wondered if the natural remedies (like Ginger or the sea band anti-nausea wrist bands) would work on motion sickness.

Motion sickness is caused by inner-ear inbalance or preceptions between what the eyes see and what the inner-ear feels. Morning sickness is hormonal and not related to inner-ear.

Most over-the-counter motion sickness medication are antihistamine (Bonine, Dramamine) that work on the inner ear and don't work for morning sickness.

I have heard of people who swear by ginger while cruising...

I know, for me, the sea bands didn't work on a cruise. But I am willing to try ginger to see if it does cure motion sickness, or at least lessen the effects!

I would stick with traditional motion sickness medication such as Dramamine or Gravol or Bonine. Ginger seems to help with nausea related to hormones or stomach ailments but it isn't so great with inner ear problems.

Ginger is an excellent way to deal with nausea, but not so much as a preventative. It does relax the lining of the stomach and has soothing qualities for irritated tummys, but I would not rely on it to PREVENT motion sickness.

Go with the Low Drowsiness Dramamine or Bonine, or use ginger (I'd take a caplet rather than a sucker, which may not have all that much ginger in it) after the fact, if you need it.

I went on Mission Space this week, three times, and I did not get motion sick at all.

Now, I am 33 and still get car sick if I am not the driver. I get seasick and airsick. I carry dramamine (or generic form) with me when I travel. I forgot to take it the day we went to Epcot and rode MS with no problem! Just sit back, keep your head in the headrest and look straight ahead. It was cool.

I was on a bus trip this past year and began to get very motion sick. I had always heard that peppermint would help motion sickness. They had some of the old fashioned peppermint sticks for sale at the restaurant where they stopped for lunch. After sucking on a few of them I felt much better. I kept a small piece in my mouth for most of the remaining trip and enjoyed the ride.

I don't know if I would rely on it for the next time but it sure worked in a pinch.

Peppermint candies or tea work very well for sour stomach however, if you vomit do NOT use peppermint for upset stomach after that. The oils will then irritate your stomach and make you vomit more.

This has been a helpful hint from your neighborhood woods woman.
