Ginger Family Getaway: 8/30-9/6 Trip Report DAY 7 & 8 UPDATED 10/2

After thinking a lot about carrying my Vera backpack in the parks and the high potential for downpours while we're there, I decided to get a small backpack while out shopping today. I wanted something small and cute, but it needs to keep my stuff somewhat dry.

I saw this JanSport Half Pint and fell in love! It's 12.5"h x 10"w x 6.5"d with 600 denier polyester and adjustable straps - I believe it's intended for teens. But hey - I think it's a great for holding a few diapers, wipes, my small camera, sunscreen and DD's "busy" stuff. I love the little velcro stash pocket on the front and the front zipper compartment. It also has a key clip inside the front compartment.

Only 16 days left now.

Sorry, I guess that I forgot the Trip Reports board was just for trip reports, not to be full of questions from others, like me!!:)

And I'm just going on and on with idle chatter!! I guess I'm just excited about our trip. I do apologize.

Oh well, your bag is really cute and Have a Good Trip! I'll let you get on with your report.:)

You don't have to apologize! I'm pretty excited about our trip too. Your questions and comments are very much welcome here!

DD and I are fighting colds. I'm glad it hit us now instead of right before or during our trip. Still - I hate being sick!

Thanks everyone! The daytime cold meds are helping. Aubree is doing ok, just sleeping more and wanting more cuddles - which is fine with me! Lots of "Mommy!" whining going on here; of course, her little voice is more gruff than usual, which cracks me up. I called my mom this morning, and she didn't recognize my voice! ::rotfl:

Aubree and I did wander out to the mailbox, and one of her flight "surprises" was delivered today. I bought her a bugs & critters peek-a-boo bag. It is so cute! She's very curious, so this will be a fun thing to keep her occupied on the plane, and maybe throughout our vacation. It's 7"x7". If she likes this, I'll have to buy some other variations.

Isn't this cute??

I love the peek-a-boo bag! How cute!

I hope you all feel better soon too. I had to take DS1 to dr today. He has several ant bites on his feet and we have no idea where they came from, they just appeared.

The backpack will work out great! We take one every year. Atleast you got a pretty pink one, I have all boys so I have to drag around a element skateboard backpack:lmao:

It seems as though alot of people are coming down with summertime colds right now- you are the 3rd person I have heard on in the Indiana area that has a cold-I sure hope you get to feeling better soon. I have been taking my vitamins daily and lysoling everything- cant be too careful 15 days before the trip ya know.;) :thumbsup2

I love the critter peek a boo thing....sooo cute!!

I was excited to find your pre-trip report as I will be going to WDW at the same time as you! I will even be at the Poly one morning - my friend and I are having breakfast at Kona. I will have to keep an eye out for you and your adorable Aubree!

I'll watch for you too! Would love to meet you. I just started reading your report and will have to catch up after DD goes to bed. I set the DVR to tape your What Not To Wear episode - for some reason I haven't seen that one.

Hope you have a wonderful trip! :wizard:

Well, last night certainly was fun - NOT! I spent over 5 hours in the ER. Drum roll, please! I have bronchitis. AND after a chest x-ray, I was informed that my diaphragm has weakened AGAIN and my stomach is up in the chest! It's possible that my coughing did it. Not what I wanted to hear.

Anyway... I'm on antibiotics and an inhaler. Still have to schedule a follow-up with my regular doctor in 2-3 days, and then I'll have to contact my surgeon to see where we go from here.

*** of course, my major question was if I could still go on our trip *** how bad is that? :rotfl: The doctor said yes.

Enough of my sob story. 11 days!!

Oh Im so sorry! I hope everything will be okay!
You had me worried, I thought you were gonna say you had to cancel~so glad you got the okay to still go:goodvibes

Keep us updated okay?

I'm glad too, that you don't have to cancel your trip. But, I hope that you get better and feel like packing, and traveling, and with a two year old at that!! Feel better soon...:goodvibes

You leave next week, right? I am getting so excited. I need to out all the stuff in the box to ship down to the Poly.

You saod you'd be using Priority Mail to ship yours? Is that through the Post Office or UPS? Just curious, I hope DH will take care of the mailing, as our box will be totally full and probably very heavy.

Does your DD eat all table food now? Our DS had that choking problem and didn't go over to table food very well, so we still supplement with a few jars of baby food every now and then, when he doesn't eat well, so I have to pack some of those, wrap them in bubble wrap I guess. From your experience, do you think I should put them in the shipping box, or pack them in the suitcase? I have a feeling in the suitcase they won't survive. At least on the box, I can put fragile stickers.

I also have to send or pack some Silk Soymilk... I'm beginning to think that we should just go rent a car for the day and do our shopping when we arrive, but I've already bought so much stuff.

This week I have purchased:

Disposable Sippy cups - all Disney characters so I don't have to wash dishes every night.
Cars BackPack to use for Diaper bag
Cars Lunchbox for snacks for the park
Trial Size Tolietries
Disposable Diaper changing pads
Disposable spoons and forks
Disposable Bottles (not really, but cheap enough that I can throw away)
Ecco Sandals for myself

Feel Better!!!:flower3:

Oh my gosh!!! Feel better! I remember getting a bad cold before my 2005 trip and not only spent the whole trip staying up each night coughing but also ended up passing it on to my friend who went with me :guilty: We still had fun though, of course, because we were in WDW ;)
Get lots of rest and water and I hope you feel 100% better in 11 days!

Thank you everyone! I am feeling better and am going to take it easy. I appreciate all the well wishes! :grouphug:

Yes - on Aug. 30.

It's through the Post Office. I ship from home and the mail carrier picks it up from my front door. Very convenient! Now I just have to determine whether everything will fit in a flat rate box or a larger one that will cost more $.

Yeah, she eats table food, but also some of the toddler dried snacks. She's a little picky girl sometimes, especially about textures. She prefers most dried fruit - raisins, bananas, strawberries, apples. She'll eat diced peaches and mandarin oranges but spits out watermelon, apples, tomatoes, and most veggies. She USED to eat frozen corn and carrots from mixed veggies, but now won't. I think it's an independence thing! I did get her to finally try strawberries in a pie, and she loved it. Thankfully she does eat cheese, yogurt, milk, most meat, pasta, potatoes and bread. I have been using my food processor to puree vegetables to hide them in food. We also use the Juicy Juice Harvest Surprise that has the servings of veggies & fruit in it. Plus I give her vitamins. Her pediatrician says she's doing fine, so I'm just trying to add some variety as I can! :goodvibes

I would probably bubble wrap the baby food and ship most of it. It would probably be ok in your checked bag with plenty of padding, but I'd put the wrapped jars in ziplocks too. It would probably be good to take a couple jars in your carry-on and just declare it to the TSA agent. You're allowed to do that.

I think I read that someone bought Silk Soymilk in their resort food court or gift shop. If that helps!

Sounds great!

Tried to answer your questions above! Hope this helps.

Hey Betsy,

Thanks for your answers. I thought about taking some of the food in my check bags, but I didn't know if that would work or not. You know they have became very strict about liquid items, even baby food. They told me last time that I could only take enough to last until we landed. I don't think they'll even let you take juice or milk now. Just baby formula and they tested ours back in Jan to make sure it was really formula.
