Ging Gang Gooley - Come on Guys

That one looks great Jules - like the look of the Travellers Rest Inn :thumbsup2

Hope the interview goes well :goodvibes

yes good luck with the interview, I'll hopefully catch up with you later, if not I'll be back on monday evening before disappearing to DLRP for a few days.
If you need to give provisional numbers or anything count Callum and me in, we'll take an average four man tent

I just phoned the site, the situation with the rental tents is a little odd, they are basically haveing teepee's erected at the moment and are unsure at the moment how much they are going to charge for them, they apparently sleep 8! they have availability for us to camp the last week of July, I will need to book as it is a busy time with the start of the summer holidays. We dont need to send deposits, I just need to let them know how many pitches we want and we pay when we get there.

Just found this thread....great idea....without the tent bit anyway!;)

C'mon mate you know it makes sense. Just say you'll come and tell her nearer the time - you know how much she likes your suprises normally - surely this is similar:thumbsup2

yeah...thanks for that Matt!:rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

I know I am being a real party pooper but, much as I love you guys, I don't think I can bring myself to sleep in a tent. I have some very bad childhood memories of camping and I just don't think I could do it voluntarily. So, if there are no B&B facilities nearby then I'm afraid I will have to cry off (I blame the Stringers and the Churchills for backing down on their principles and agreeing to slum it ;) )

I think the first one looks lovely. If we chose that, we'd probably go for one of the cottages. I'm all for ging-gang-goolying around the campfire and all that, but I'll definitely give the tent a miss if it's an option.

Hey, as long as I don't have to sleep in a tent, I'll even bring my own fairy lights. :lmao:

I'm with you on this Deb & Joh.....camping? shuddering at the thought....but love the idea of a drink and sing song around the camp fire! If that's ok to join you all?:cool1:

Hi Hon, do you think it means we're going to have to have the teepees? if we do I don't mind but it'd be useful to find out a price, otherwise I'm happier taking our own tent really.
If you need a deposit then thats ok too, we're definately up for it although I can't see me being able to get the friday off work so I'll probably come up late friday night, can you make sure someone saves me a good pitch and stays sober enough to give me a hand in the dark with the tent? :lmao:

Mandy we would love for you to join us, I have found somewhere that I think suits us all, I think it will be you and mark (is that your other half), Joh and Deb and Matt who dont want to camp, but i think the travellers rest could acommodate you all. Please join us, I would love to meet you I know you are a friend of the Churchills and Stringers already so I am sure we will get on !

Carol she said no we dont have to have teepees we would prefer our own tent to. There is no deposit I just need to let them know how many pitches we want, the teepess sound as if they are being built out in the woods so I think best our own tents. I cant guarantee the staying sober bit but will def save you a good pitch and me and Ian will help put the tent up x

I'll definatley be there and I'll try and beg a half day or something to get up earlier.
:thumbsup2

its so exciting isn't it?

Can anyone play guitar?

yes Mark's the 'other half' (won't say better!;)) Not sure being a friend of the Stringers/Churchills qualifies us......:rolleyes1 ;) :rotfl2: but we'll take a chance!:cool1:

teepee !! I rack my brains to find you a B&B and now you want a teepee !! I dispair, seriously we are going to take a drive there on Monday to have a nosy the teepees are not finsihed apparently, but maybe they will let us take some piccies of the work in progress and we can take some of the site and the area. So I take it we have decided on this one then .. no squabbling over whos going to be Pocahontes now !

Jules

I love the idea of a teepee in the woods - sounds great to me.

Let us know what the place looks like and try and get some idea of teepee prices on Monday if you can

Have a fab weekend both of you

Tam

can't wait to see the pics of the teepees, I might fancy one of those too! it would go well with our disney theme wouldn't it?

DW has American Indian blood from along ways back, A teepee would be fun, How much are they for a couple of nights?

Hiya Huys, we have been on our litttle jaunt to find the campsite and have some piccies to share with you.

We parked up at the Travellers Rest

and asked a local for directions to the site, he told us back up to the junction and then about 3/4 mile down the road. Along the way we found the Usk Inn www.uskinn.co.uk, this was literally down the road from the site and would I think be brilliant for those of you wanting a B&B

Couple of minutes later we are at the entrance to the site

100_9626.jpg

we had a bit of a wander around and spotted one tipi
100_9630.jpg

We found the office and had a chat with the owner who was a great bloke, very welcoming. He told us that the situation with the tipis is that www.bathbristoltipihire.co.uk will be putting the tipis up and running it as a seperate concern, so we would need to contact them about prices, I have sent them an e-mail and am waiting to hear back, the one that was up in the nearby field had been hired by somebody independently.

Booking the tent pitches with him is no problem and he said just to give him a ring, the weekend we want to go is the start of their peak season and he said that every weekend they set up the mobile bar

100_9633.jpg

they also had another large marquee up which they use for bbq and entertainment during the summer. He was very proud of his small shop and invited me inside to see the fresh meat we can buy for the BBQ, bred and fed locally, do you think he meant these !

100_9627.jpg

the camping field was at the top of a small hill with seperate toilet block

100_9634.jpg

100_9641.jpg

we also got to see Carols camp fire area

100_9638.jpg

Just next to the camping field there was a sign, pointing to the Canal walk, so we took that route back

100_9645.jpg

walking back this way meant it was literally a five minute walk to the top up booze place

100_9643.jpg

the Star Inn and its beer garden

100_9646.jpg

and the White Hart Inn

100_9649.jpg

it would have been rude not to join in

100_9651.jpg

I dont know if this helps, we were pleased with the site, it was very clean and they seemed to be very welcoming, the area is beautiful. As I have said before there is nothing there except for the pubs, but the walk along the canal to the bpubs is lovely especially if we get the nice weather.

let me know what you think

it looks a lovely area jules :thumbsup2 might even be tempted to camp now, what were the dates again ??
