We were thinking of getting our kids Gift Cards for our upcoming trip but our son is concerned if he doesn't spend all of his money on his gift card can he cash it in and get the balance back in cash? Anyone know?

Nope, you have to use it all or use it the Disney Store, Disneyshopping.com or hold it for your next trip. :)

There are also websites that you can trade partially used gift cards for other gift cards that you would prefer to have.

If you have a Disney store in your area, they sell Disney Dollars. They look like play money with Disney characters on it. You can trade any unused Disney Dollars at the bank on Main street

Actually, under Californian law, gift cards, including Disney Gift Cards, can be redeemed for Cash as long as they have $10 or less remaining on them.

At the DLR, Disney Gift Cards can be cashed out at any Merchandise Location. You cannot cash them out at Restaurants, the Main Entrance, Guest Relations or any other non-Merchandise location.

Good to know. Thanks!

Really? I live here and everytime I've tried I've been turned down....

It has to have $10 or less remaining on the card. Anything over that and it's up to the store whether they want to cash it out or not (and most will not).

If they still refuse, just waive the law in their faces:

I had less than $3 and they refused me, once DD12 had less than $1 and they refused me. Different stores but still. Thanks for the info, I'll remember that for next time!

WOW Pixie, I cannot help but not think that sure was not very nice of the retail people to not cash out such a small amount. Especially seeing how in this state anyway, they were suppose to. Geese! less than $1.00, I would have exchanged that for your child! :)

Ya, they gave me some line about having to spend it all, I did argue but not much because I thought that was the rule too. So, I had DD grab a candy bar or two and that was the end of that gift card! lol

That cannot be too easy to find anything for sale at any theme park, for less than $1.00 ;) he he!

Oh, it wasn't at DL, it was at a different store. So ya, just snagged some candy at the checkstand. No big deal. Mine was a bit harder because it was a specialty store, I had to pay to finish off my card and I ended up getting something I didn't really want.

We are going to DL during Spring Break and I plan on buying Disney dollars at the Disney store here. So if we have Disney dollars left over we can trade it for cash on Main Street 1 for 1 without any problems? Or only under $10 like the gift cards?? Any fees involved for trading them back to cash?

You can also buy the Disney Dollars at the parks. Might have to force the CMs to look around in their registers, but the DDs should be there.

I like giftcards, though. The DDs are silly to me. Cute, but silly.

Hey Molly, is that a pumpkin muffin that I see?, and with a little mickey mouse shaped face on it? It does appear to be cute, and yummy! :)

Maybe you could buy disney dollars with the remaining money on your disney giftcard, especially if you have over $10 left, then trade them in at the Main St. Bank? Would that work?

I was down there in September and the only place that would give me the remaining balance back was the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney. It had to be under $5 though (not that hard to get the balance down, haha).
