Gift Box Chocolates

This is a really silly question but I'm hoping someone will know or have a suggestion.

A couple of years ago, I happened to be in Ross Dress for Less for the first time ever (and haven't been there since) because I needed a one-off dress to wear to a wedding. As we approached the check-out, there was a massive gift box of chocolates. I don't remember if it was Russell Stover or another brand, but it was like a Russell Stover type of box with the individual milk and dark pieces, mixed creams and caramels, etc. It was huge, in a single layer, probably a couple of pounds at least, and we bought it to take back to my in-laws as a gift. It was a huge hit, probably more for the size of the box as the chocolates themselves. It has to be at least 3 feet x 2 feet or thereabouts.

I now need to buy a gift box of chocolates to take them and would love to find something similar, even if not identical. The local Publix and places like CVS and Walgreens only have the smaller sizes of gift box chocolates and I really wanted something over-the-top big.

Does anyone know if this was a normal item for Ross Dress for Less to have or do you think it was a unique item that we just happened to stumble across? I don't want to just start driving from place to place, both due to time constraints as well as trying to stay a bit isolated prior to travel (I'm fully vaccinated, but being cautious).

If not at Ross, any suggestions for wear to buy? I'm thinking Walmart or Target but again, don't want to start wandering around big box stores haphazardly for no reason, and I don't recall in the past them having anything larger than, say, a one-pound gift box.

I'm in the WDW area so don't want to order online because of the heat, so prefer to pick up myself and try to keep them as safe from temperature extremes as possible before we travel. I also wondered about Ghiradelli at Disney Springs but didn't know if they had any huge boxes.

Thanks for any ideas!

I don't go into Ross much at all because everyone of them in my area is just awful. They didn't used to be but I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and HomeGoods (especially Home Goods) often carry a lot of candy like you describe. Granted it's much more plentiful around certain holidays. I've also noticed that during COVID, the candy offerings have been much more scaled back. But it's worth a shot if you live near one of those stores.

Just a thought--I know in the past, Ghiradelli's sold big bags of assorted chocolates--their typical square ones, but you'd get a huge variety. Something like that would sure be popular in my house (and has been, in the past).

I think the ginormous boxes like you're talking about come out around the holidays, probably due to gifting and family gatherings.

Normally, I'd say "look online", but I personally wouldn't ship chocolates to Florida, except in the dead of winter.

That's so funny! We had to go to Publix just now so took another peek in the candy aisle and that's exactly what we bought. We like those individually wrapped square ones in assorted milk and dark chocolate flavors. They didn't have the huge assorted bags like we've seen in the past at Walmart, but we bought four small bags of different individual flavors (had them on sale as well). I'm sure they will be a hit.

Thanks everyone!

Great news for me--I literally live walking distance to a Publix! Even better, I have strong, handsome sons that I could send. Well, handsome sons. Well, sons... :rotfl2:
