Ghost Hunters Thread & Personal Ghost Experiences & other Paranormal Talk.

Bump:hmghost:

Where is everyone? It 's like a ghost town around here.

I was out of town for a few days and computerless...oh the horror!!!!

Ok - ya'll pulled it out of me :)

About the "shadow people" - Waverly Hills is notorious for having them. If you saw any of the GH episodes at Waverly, the "shadow people" are very often discussed.

What we saw the night of the tour was odd. I was 99% sure it was an optical illusion .. up until the very last moment.

The structure itself is long and narrow - long hallways with rooms on either sides. One side of the building also has many windows on most floors; it's said that the patients were wheeled out onto the open areas as a part of their treatment for TB (even with snow sometimes falling on their feet).

Anyway - if you stand at the end of one of these hallways, you can very often see a dark form "breaking the light," as if something is crossing the hallway in front of you. You have to look closely and your eyes have to adjust to the darkness in order to see this. There was a group of about 20 of us all standing in this hallway and, after a few moments, you started to hear people saying, "OH! Did you see that??" and other exclamations of surprise.

So, I'm standing there and I start to see what they're talking about. But I'm thinking to myself that if you stare at something long enough, your eyes start to play wonky tricks on you. So I was pretty dismissive.

We watched "it" for a long time and then it seemed to become a bit more clear. It really looked like a human form walking from one doorway at the end of the hallway to another. We were all pretty engaged and the group became extremely quiet.

So we watch it walk across the hallway and then we don't see it again for a bit. So the crowd started whispering a bit and we thought it was gone.

Except -

The shadow "peeked" around the corner. We all saw it - it was extremely clear. It had been moving back and forth and was still a bit "questionable" as to if it was a trick of the light. But to see a head peek around the corner and look at you - WOW. It freaked the entire crowd out! Some people started screaming and everyone ran the other direction. Lucky me, I was at the back and took the brunt of the impact.

So that's my experience with shadow people. I've not seen one before (not that I remember) and I've never seen once since. I really thought that I would see it again on the overnight I spent there but no chance. We saw and experienced absolutely nothing.

But I bet on a quiet night, without a lot of people around, you can see them there. On the "tour" I took (the night I saw "him"), I actually felt scared to be there. I don't scare easily and I never have been afraid of "ghosts." But there was something in the air - something frightening. I stayed close to the group.

The night I stayed there it felt just like any other place in the world. No scarier than my kitchen. I often wandered off by myself and didn't get the "heebie jeebies" at all.

I guess even spirits have "off" nights ;)

I'll come back and share my personal ghost experiences from when I was young. It'll be nice to share them with people who actually find them interesting :thumbsup2

WOW! Not sure how I react to that. I always say I would like to see something but if I ever did I would probably freak out.

 I was thinking the same thing. Believe it or not, I'm trying to cut down my DIS time. I'm working my way up to taking a week long break. But everyday - I keep popping back on for a couple posts. :headache: It's become a true addiction. ANy suggestions?

I've been working feverishly for the past 3 weeks during every spare second trying to get my basement cleaned out for DD's birthday party this Saturday. :faint: We've had all the stuff that was willed out to DH's cousins from Grandma's house (she's the one who died in Dec that I had a couple of stories about) down there along with my regular junk.

I was out of town for a few days and computerless...oh the horror!!!!
Computerless? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: Now THAT is scary!!!

Hey, where the heck has ward been lately - she talks about a ghost town - and she's the biggest ghost (yes ward, I'm talkin' 'bout ya!)
:rotfl:

See above. ;) I'm just doing another drive-by tonight. I didn't even read the stories yet, I'm saving them for tomorrow at lunch time.

Hopefully everyone will have some stories for a Ghost Story Saturday night this week.

Are we doing that... a Ghost Story Saturday Night? That is great but we still need some for the rest of the week. I must say that tonight the Shadow People Story was my favorite. I know I already said it but the peeping REALLY REALLY got me. Like it was REALLY not a shadow but moved like a person. I am getting chills now. Thank God my DH is not going on a trip that would be the time that one of these guys will pop up in my house.:rotfl:

Has anyone been to the Myrtles? I could tell a few things about that place.

I just started reading this thread tonight. I love ghost stories, always have, even though they really creep me out. While I have seen the Ghost Hunters show I don't watch it religously but do tune in from time to time. Mostly I don't watch shows like that because I am home alone often and I wouldn't sleep ;)

I do have a real life story to share. The house I grew up in was on the corner at the bottom of a hill, the storm drain was at the corner at the bottom of our yard. The drain was a large metal tube that ran under the street and down to the creek, probably 100 yards or so. Leading to the drain beginning at our driveway was a concrete half-circle to catch all the run-off water and guide it to the drain. Sorry for the boring details.

One summer night at dusk when I was about 8 or 9 years old, I was sitting on the porch of the house directly behind mine and on top of the hill. My friend Jennifer lived in that house, she was the same age as me. Next door to her lived Brenda who was 2 years older than us. Jennifer, Brenda and I were sitting on Jennifer's front porch, enjoying a summer evening and talking about whatever young girls talk about. I can't recall who noticed first but it seems as if we all shouted at the same time "do you see that?" A black shape had emerged from the drain pipe. It was sort of human shaped in that it had a head like shape then was larger around the "torso" area and tapered off near the bottom, but it did not have distinct human characteristics such as limbs. It was a shadowy figure. It "walked" (floated?) half-way across the street and then just completely disappeared. We were all terrified and ran to our own homes.

The next day we went to the drain to investigate. There were muddy "footprints" that went half-way across the street and disappeared, just where the figure disappeared the night before.

Over the course of the next few years we thought we saw that figure again from time to time in yards around the neighborhood, always around dusk. I think that was most likely our imagination.

I've totally lost contact with Jennifer but Brenda and I have kept in touch but we never talked of this incident since we were about 12 (I am 35 now). But a few years ago we were talking and out of the blue, she asks if I remember that thing we saw come out of my drain. I don't think it is something I will ever forget.

WDWBarb Great story! How can someone be afraid of a ghost that saved a life? :thumbsup2
2BigKidz How scary! especially the "footprints" that ended where it disappeared.

WDW Barb, GREAT STORY!!! I can't wait to hear more!!!:thumbsup2

I'm glad to hear it was a helpful ghost and not scary.;)

OH and I neglected to mention that is an adorable dog in your signature. Not kissing up, really he is adorable but if you feel so inclined to reward me for noticing how cute s/he is then it would be appreciated.:goodvibes

LOL - that little fuzzball is Mr. Bean. He loves me more than any human deserves so I count myself VERY lucky! He's always, ALWAYS in my lap. Makes DIS'ing difficult!!! And those big eyes - who could ever tell such a mongrel "no?"

I'll be back in a few to catch up with some more stories about my haunted house. This is bringing back so many memories!!! I sure loved that place :goodvibes

The Myrtles is in St Francisville, Lousiana http://www.myrtlesplantation.com/ and some claim that it's one of the most haunted places in the United States. I do believe that it's haunted even though I also believe that the owners embellish the stories a bit to add to the appeal. It's a wonderful old plantation house with gorgeous grounds with many huge oaks dripping with moss.

I've stayed there three times but I only had an 'interesting' stay once when I went with a friend. The other times I went with my mother and stayed in one of the rooms in the tiny motor inn and the other time I went with DH and he snored loud enough to scare away the dead. ;)

The Myrtles is laid out a bit unusually. It has the traditional four rooms that make up a square with the main hall to the side of those. On the other side of that hall is a small parlor and a large room which is where the owner stays when she's in residence. The only working door to this room is off the back porch. Upstairs over the four room square is a hall and four bedrooms. These are only accessible via a stairway that leads from the back porch. Another staircase leads up from the main hall and goes up to a large open area. A huge bedroom complete with nanny or servant room (part of which is now a bathroom) is off the upstairs open area. We stayed in the large upstairs bedroom which meant that we are the only people who had access to that whole side of the house. I hope that this all makes sense because it's kind of important.

Once we checked in and dropped off our stuff, we roamed around and talked to people. An elderly man complained that his talcum powder was sprinkled all over his stuff on a dresser in his room and it wasn't that way earlier. He swore up and down that someone that worked there must have snuck in to do this. Another lady was upset because some of the clothing hanging in her closet was missing. Someone who cleaned the house had looked everywhere but nothing was found.

We then took the ghost tour. Everyone was gathered in the main hall which was dimly lit. Suddenly the lights went out and the tour guide Esther ( a wonderful lady who has been at the Myrtles for what seems like forever) chuckled and walked over to a dimmer switch and turned the light back on by turning the dimmer button. I examined the switch and it just seemed like a regular switch. Everything appeared to be quite worn and faded around it and the switch itself wasn't new but it wasn't that old either.

During the tour, something banged hard against a parlor window. I happened to be facing it and saw no one go by on the front porch. I looked out and didn't see anything lying on the porch. Esther explained that this kind of thing happens often.

After the tour, people tend to congregate on the back porch. The lady who had lost clothes came up and announced that her clothes were back neatly hung in the closet. She also announced that she was leaving.

Everything was finally locked and all of the staff left except for a security guard. We had the only key to the one side of the house and the doors were definitely locked. We explored around a bit and I peeked in the window of the small parlor which was on our side. Suddenly I heard a squeak and another loud bang only against the window I was standing by. I think I must have jumped a mile. No one was in that whole side of the house - we checked right away. I wasn't moving when it happened and my friend was in the yard. We could see the parlor door from the front porch through the hallway and no one came out. I know that houses settle but that bang in an empty part of the house was rather unsettling.

The rest of the evening passed uneventfully except some people showed us a massive orb they caught in their room but it was a great series of little things that made this stay special!
