Ghost Hunters Thread & Personal Ghost Experiences & other Paranormal Talk.

Hey there! This thread hasn't seen any action in awhile and I had something happen in my home that I thought you all might want to hear about.

We have a pretty new home. The land it is on was farmland for as long as I have been alive. We bought the house very near to where I grew up. There are a few strip pits nearby but that is about it.

I was in with all the kids in the boys' room getting ready to go to sleep. My DH had not gotten home from work but I thought he might be here any minute so I had my ear out for the garage door.

We were just about to bow our heads and we all heard these thuds. Almost like a car door closing but about 15 of them in a row. Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud! I thought maybe DH was home and was stomping his way to the bedroom. The kids must have too because they all said, "Daddy's home!!!" DS3 ran to the bedroom door and looked out into the hall.

I asked if Daddy was home and he said he didn't see him. The thuds were getting closer and I was sure DH was going to open the door any moment. So DS3 looked out into the hall again, and no DH. I was slightly creeped out but knew better than to act that way around the kids at bedtime. Pretty soon the thuds stopped. We tucked in and all was quiet.

I checked the house and no one was here. I called DH and he said he was an hour from home. Honestly, it really could have been a noise from outside, but I can't come up with something that would sound like that at 8:30 at night. And it repeated for so long that it makes no sense that it was a car door like my initial reaction.

We have lived here for 3 years and there have been no other moments like that. Very weird. I still get a little creeped out just writing about it.:confused3

So what do you folks think? Paranormal or paranoid?

Hey Herd...how are the little HUDs they must be getting big.

Thanks for asking, Bella! They are good. Easier than before and harder too! We start PreK in the fall and I am looking forward to 5 half-days free a week!

Sorry it took me so long to see your question!

My sister's DH died of a brain tumor April '08. He left two small girls who are now ages 4 and 21 months. The 4 year old will often play tea party and set a place for Daddy. She has conversations with him and whenever you ask her where she learned something, she will say, "From Daddy." Ok, could just be her imagination. But last week, my sister was on the computer looking at a local news story about a ghost at a city hall and it had a video of the ghost. DD21months walked in, looked at the computer and said, "Its Daddy!" The "ghost" was actually just a white blur ball so it wasn't even something that looked like a man.

donnajon, if anyony can see things its kids, no doubt!

HerdOHuds, thanks for the story, it would make me wonder as well :confused:I mean most know what thumps and bangs there house or surroundings makes so anything "different" always makes you go "hmmm" let us know if you hear the sounds again~ if it were me I would have been a little creeped out for sure! :scared:

I poped up this thread for those who wanted to read paranormal experiences and also because it has been a while since we have done anything with it.

As an update on my 'experience' I think I have figured it out. I *think* that maybe the teenaged boys down the street might have gotten out a basketball. The thuds seemed farther apart than what I heard, but the sound is a pretty close match. I may have just never been in the boys' room when they were dribbling before.

There have been some fireworks around lately that matched the sound exactly, but aren't as regular and last as long.

I am still not completely sure, but since I am here alone with my kids more often than not, prefer to believe it was a basketball.

Good evening!

I've been watching Ghost Adventures and I've got to say that I am not loving Zak's hair. The guys are still cracking me up though.

What do you guys want to know.

I can give you a little background.

Our house was completely destroyed by a tornado in 2006. We rebuilt the house and moved back into the house in 2007. our DD was 3...and our DS was a newborn. Within a week of moving back in, our daughter informed us that there was a man that lived in her room...she called him the "Dark MAn" and he taught her things..(Things like words...numbers, letter, add, subtract) It was rather uncanny to have your three year old all of the sudden break out with new names for her stuffed animals...For example, all of her animals were named what they were Pony, puppy, kitty, piggy, froggy. All of the Sudden, She had names for them like Po-ala, Ninia, cree, bael, Moa. And within three weeks of the dark man showing up, we started having odd events happen in the house...like toys going off with no one around them. All the batteries on our main floor would be drained on average in 12 days...clocks, remote controls, flashlights, toys. Then the COup De Grace, was our dog. He would be laying in the living room sleeping. He would get up go find a toy, then walk over into the kids playroom and try to get some one to take his toy.

At that point we called a reputable paranormal investigative group. They came out almost immediately. They spent a night in the house. they had several psychics, a couple of tech guys and a few camera/equpiment folks. It was fascinating. They talked to our daughter and she filled them all in on where the dark man went and what he taught her. It was rather un nerving to see your three year old discussing the events that I tried so hard to disprove and rationalize away. After all was said and done they showed us 4 voice recordings that creeped me the heck out. Then they caught 3 or 4 orbs floating through us as we were talking. Then the Phsycics told us the DArk man's name was oscar...and he was scandinavian...he was tall, and was a former teacher. He just liked our litle girl and was proud of her.

(turns out my wife's grandfather was named oscar, he was a teacher, he was a new norwegian immigrant...and he was 6'5" tall...and he had a huge mustache...yeah, they couldn't have known that about us.)

They informed us that our house was "HAunted" and they would do their best to clean it out for us...they did all kinds of stuff...burning weeds...lots of talking...then they left with instructions not to talk about the night in the house for two weeks.

believe it or not, everyting stopped for a few months. The DArk man, we were informed, had decided to go on a long trip...but he said he might come back to check on her(DD)

If you want to know more, they had to come back to the house about 3 weeks ago. OUr DS, now 2 has a "friend" he calls the "Ho-Ho-Ho Man" and he lives in our furnace room in the basement. give me a bit and I'll talk about the second visit by the paranormal investigators.

And as a side note, both my wife and myself are scientists...I'm a mathematician, She A SW engineer with a Masters degree. We're not prone to believing something without numerical proff of the event...it's really challenged our belief system.

OMG you sound so calm! If you have read this whole thread you will know that we all have freaked out when we had our experiences. Can you tell us what the creepy evps said? If you go back in the thread you will see that my son got an EVP in my house and it SCARED heck out of me. Also, the phrase DARK MAN does not sound benovolent to me. Are the new names your child gave her animals Scandinavian??? Do you have some protection for your child? I would put a crucifix over her bed if it were me.

The names were Finnish. The dark man has never scared the DD...not even once...although she says he makes the words on her wall go all twisty.

As far as the EVP's

One of the ladies was asking "CAn you not cross over?" a very distinct "Help me" was picked up...while I was talking to my wife. They voice was elderly...and was rather sad IMO.

Oour DD was asking "Why Do you like me so much" as we were laughing about how earnest the little girl was, the recorder picked up "Bright Bright Light" The Voice was like a very proper lady.

They had a recorder running while my wife and I and one of the tech dudes were sitting in our kitchen We were chatting along talking about the tornado A male voice out of the blue said "You're kidding"

At the end of the night while they were "Cleaning the house" one of the recorders picked up "Let's Go"

All the voices were rather distinct.

Wow! Explodo, that's wild.
I haven't checked this thread lately either. It's been pretty quiet around here lately. Sadly I think the only activity we've had recently was our beloved cat saying goodbye.:sad1:
We lost our 17yo cat almost three weeks ago. The first night he was gone DS and I pushed two beds together in his room so we sleep next to each other and share my Eeyore blankie that Stupid(the cat) always loved. Twice I felt a cat jump up on my bed. We still have another cat but I sat up to check and there was nothing there. I felt it a few more times the next couple of nights and while I can't prove that it was Stupid I think it was him since it only happened a couple of nights.
I think I told the funny story on here about why Stupid quit sleeping with me years ago but I don't know how many pages back it would be. He use to always sleep between my feet until one time when he got scared out of his wits upstairs. It was daytime when he got scared and I was downstairs at the time. No way was I going up there to see what made him come tumbling down the stairs like that. He never would go back up there after that. I always missed him sleeping between my feet.
I think that was my old buddy just saying goodbye.

Explodo!
That is a very intense experience. Strange how it started up after you rebuilt. I hope your whole family survived the tornado. We had one come through my hometown when I was in Jr. High and we lost 13 people. When it gets stormy around here everyone battens down the hatches!

I would love to hear about your second visit with the paranormal investigators.

I've often wondered how I would react to a situation such as what you describe. I'm told that you learn to accept what goes on for the most part and you just live as normal. Your quiet attitude impresses me.

I'm so sorry to read about your loss. I remember when we lost our cat Rufus, I was lying on my bed crying a little and it felt like a cat head bumped my hand suddenly. Wishful thinking? Dreaming? Or what? I prefer to think of it as saying goodbye. :sad1:

Ok....The second visit.

about 3 months ago the everything started back up again...kinda of incrementaly...Fisrt all the batteries started dying...then lights would burn out in patterns...the dog would be trying to get something to play with him, noises/footsteps...NOthing to far out of the norm from the first time.

But about 2 months ago, the DD(Age 5) informs us out of the blue that the "DArkman" had come back...and he had a friend with him. She called this Friend "Clockhead" Since as she described him "HE has a Clock for a head" :confused3 Then our Son (Age 2) started coming and getting me and dragging me downstairs to see the "Ho-Ho-Ho" he would always take me to our furnace room and then to the sump. he would point at the sump and say "Home" then he would Sign "Hiding". (BTW, both our kids know sign language to a certain extent. The DD knows about 200 signs...the boy around 120. We taught them to sign on a lark...It works out nice)

So on At the end of april I called the Paranormal folks again. They called back about 3 days later. Asked if they could come out on a saturday night with a new team of people (Not new as in beginers...but new as in someone who hasn't been to our house) The DW and I agree. They came to the house at 4pm...first 2 ladies who took notes about what occurs at the house...then at 4:30, 3 ladies show up (Psycics) and 3 guys (A sensetive and 2 techs)

They wandered aroudn the house for about an hour...and this time the house was in full motion. While they were there, 3 lights out of 6 in our kitchen chandelier burned, every other light. The techs spen tabout 20 minutes trying to figure out how it happened...never did figure it out. The dog was trying o give his toy to something that no one could see (I mean he was wagging his nubby tail like mad...walked around the table then stopped at the foot of the stairs and watched something go up the stairs.) they weren't immpressed with that until about 30 minutes later, when he was trying to get one of the ladies to play with him...he went through the same set of motions with her...except for the stairs of course...They were all kind of stunned. The Psycics were agog at the number of presences in the house. they were all in different areas of the house...but they all seemed to say there was something in the same places...I was a little creeped out by this. I asked "Why our house" they said (Almost in Unison) "Your daughter is a bright light" (Great, now I had visions of her looking at the TV saying "They're back"...but I digress)

around 6:30PM they were all down in our basement taking EM readings, when the boy decided to go down and check on them. He immediately finds a flashlight laying on the floor and was trying to turn it on when I got down there to fetch him. One of the ladies turns it on for him and he's pleased as punch. I then said to him "WIlly, can you show us the Ho-Ho-Ho" he immediately takes off to the furnace room with 7 people following him. He goes directely to the sump with the light...says"HIs Home"...then he signs "Hiding" then he says "Funny" The investigators were open mouthed at this sequence of events. ONe of the ladies then asked willy where the Ho-Ho-Ho goes when he's not home. He went back to his playroom in the basement, then shined the light in a hole that goes into the furnace room. It was rather stunning.

Around 7pm I put the boy to bed. And the investigators started talking to DD. They were asking her about the dark man and clockhead. She said they like to teach her things...HOw to count...How top spell...big works...meanings of words etc...(Serious ya'll, she's 5 and can count to 150, she adds subtracts divides and is starting t ofigure out how to multiply. HE vocabulary is amazing also...it's not to many 5 year olds that use the word discombobulated the right way *Snicker*)

DD seemed rather non-plussed abut everything...and everyone was real relaxed until DD said "Clockhead is lost and wants to go home" but DArkman wants to stay and teach me things. The investigators all looked at each other...a couple of them were alarmed.

At 9pm I put DD to bed and they started talking to us. WE told them about the things we had witnessed...Like being watched...getting pulled...all kinds of stuff. he camera guys then said they had caught a couple of orbs and a shadow in the basement after we had left the basement with Willy. They all thought it was the Ho-ho-ho. Serious folks, I was more or less shocked at how active the house was this time.

They did EVP stuff for the next few hours...they caught a couple of things...A voice whenI was putting grace to bed that said "NIght NIght" then while the wife and I were in the kitchen talking to one of the techs, a voice said "Mind your Manners" (This one sounded like it had a scandahoovian accent) then they caught a voice in the basement that said "Stop it" when they were asking if their presence bothered whatever was in the room. They sent me an e-mail last week saying they captured 15 differnt voice events while they were there.

So all in all, it was a strange night. The ho-ho-ho man was a big hit...as was the darkman and Clockhead. The lights burning out in sequence was interesting...The investigators told us no matter where we were, we would have spirits following us around. Our daughter drew them to her like moths to a flame.

There's more...but I gotta do some work. I'll write a little more later.

a couple of side note:

1. We've had two electricians come to the house to see if something is wrong with our wiring. In both cases nothing was out of the ordinary. Seriously, we were going through about 16 regular 60 watt bulbs in a month and 4 of the spotlights in out recessed lights. That's not normal. Plus we were going through batteries like mad. our remote controls for the tv would burn out regular batteries once a month. And when we switched to the rechargable matteries, those would burn out in about 2 weeks.

2. They cleaned the house again durning the second visit. That was at the first of may. We haven't had any real events since that time. In fact, we haven't burned out a light...or had to replace batteries since that time.

3. The Ho-ho-ho man is still downstairs. The boy was looking for him yesterday. He was saying the ho-ho-ho man took his ball.

4. Clockhead hasn't been around. The girl says he went to heaven and he's happy. Which is a rather odd statemnt coming from the mouth of a 5 yearold.

That's all.

Wow, just saw this thread and have always been facinated by the paranormal. I just read the previous post about your DD and DS, it seems to be too real to be anything else. Keep us posted and I will be reading, thanks for sharing.:surfweb:

Explodo: Very interesting reading. I've often thought that many times it's not a place that is haunted, but it's the person. Sounds like your daughter is one of these. If the Dark Man is her (your?) grandfather, I wouldn't be worried a bit.

My daughter used to tell me about "the old farm couple" that would come see her. We lived in a new house that we'd built, so I often wondered if they were people attached to the land or my maternal grandparents (my grandmother died a month before my daughter was born).

If you're not freaked out about it, and your children aren't freaked out about it, this may play out as your children get older and "don't believe" any more.

well I can say one thing about this whole experience...it's really hit my pragmatic worldview square in the tenders. Seriously, I make my living in the rational world of numbers, proofs and prediction. This kind of event truely challenges my sense of real. Same with my wife. TBH, we've never really been "Freaked" out by the events that occur. We're more interested in the explination.

And I think you;re right...it's the person...not the place in our case.

BTW...the second group of people also named the dark man Oscar or Augar. Stunned my wife to no end.
