I just cannot figure out what this is. Is the Space Mountain ride changed in some ways or is it something like a show done outside of Space Mountain? I just saw some photos that someone had posted that show speakers being set up outside the ride and it was mentioned that it was for Ghost Galaxy. I just have no clue. Thank you!

It is the Halloween overlay. The ride does not change. They change the music and add some light affects.

I love what DL does to Space Mountain for Halloween. Of course they can not change the track. But, the visual and audio is different inside the Mountain. My favorite is what they do with the outside of the mountain. The roof changes color and melts and gets ripped open, and the audio is also so awesome. If you FP this ride you will miss all the outside affects. :tink:

The interior theming is altered to add a haunting ghost storyline- there are video projection screens used to add "scary" elements to the ride. It definitely adds an extra element of intensity to the ride

My son is 8 and loves SM but after one ride on GG, he vows not to do it again. It is cool but pretty intense (and LOUD). I think it is cool they do a holiday overlay but I prefer the standard SM.

It's a decent overlay, but whatever you do, do not wait 120 minutes for it! The standby line gets unnecessarily long for that ride.

Ah, now I kinda get an idea. The outside sounds like it will be pretty cool. I have seen photos of what happens to the HM and it's makeover but I just could not figure out what they could do to a roller coaster type ride like SM.

Thanks so much everyone.

I actually find the projections to be pretty scary, but the outside effects are great. Then again, I scare easily.:confused3

It's a different experience for sure. I wasn't sold on it the first time I rode it, but it started growing on my the next couple of times. As mentioned some of the coolest things are on the exterior of the building.

I absolutely LOVE the Ghost Galaxy overlay. It gives Space Mountain more of a 'story' and a reason for flying through space for me. It's so fun when you are in the front. Ahhh I can't wait to experience it again in a few weeks!!

I love Ghost Galaxy. I did not mind waiting in line 2 hours last year as the show on the moutain was awesome. I thought it really adds to the ride inside. I also thought it made the ride a little more intense. I can't wait to go on it again.

I still can't figure out why Space Mountain seems to have longer lines at night... unlike Thunder Mountain, the lack of daylight doesn't make the ride any better.

In general Space Mtn does not. During HalloweenTime the projections and sounds are only on at night and that might be a bigger draw. Plus it is Halloween. I could see why Huanted Mansion would be more fun at night even though it too is all inside.

I'd rather go on it at night simply for the fact that much of the line is outdoors & is HOT during the day. Also, at night, it's kind of cool to be in a "science fiction" environment when the stars are out :thumbsup2

That's odd, because I was there last year and DH/I both remember the ghost projections and change of theme music to be up and running on the ride in the daytime. We rode SMGG mostly during the day, too. Unless I misunderstood what you wrote and you're only referring to projections and sounds on the exterior of the building (which are different at night). *scratches head* :)

Maybe SMGG attracts more evening visitors - locals who want to see the park after work just for the Halloween effects. So that would lead to boosted ridership at night for SMGG.

hah! Forgot to add what I think of SMGG! Answer: I looove it! There's kind of a huge half-vapor-skeletal ghost that "sees" you on the ride, disappears for bits and then reappears at times to follow you or even to try and grab you! It also makes sounds, so you hear it growling and making ooky noises. It's all projection but it might be very convincing for the kiddos. JMO the front seats have the best view of the ghost when you go up the initial incline (where he has the best view of you, too!), so don't grab those seats if you're unsure.

This is my favorite holiday overlay in Disneyland. Very well done! I'd go back for a special Halloween trip *just* to see SMGG again!

I do think in that post HG was referring to the attraction at night.

And I do agree that the lines get longer and really long as the day goes on due to the locals/AP crowd coming after the work day ends.

It's good to ride for the inside during the day, and then again for the full array of effects at night.

Yah I meant the outside of Space Mtn. :)
