GF or YC??

We are considering a 3 night, December stay and I was wondering which you prefer, GF or YC, and why. We will have a car ( always do ), and have only tried AKL as a deluxe. Thanks!!

We have never stayed at the YC. We love the GF for the monorail. With two young boys, and spending most of our time at the MK and Epoct, it makes sense to us. We also have a car but don't like to get back in the car until we check-out.

Go with GF, since you can take the monorail to Magic Kingdom

The answer to this question depends on what park you will be spending the most time in. If you have little ones and plan on spending time in the MK, go with teh GF. If you are adults and will spend your time in Epcot or MGM, you can't beat the YC.

I love both, but I personally would go for YC. I'm a young adult with no kids, and I'm a World Showcase/MGM nut, so it's a PERFECT location for me. Not to mention the Boardwalk being right there Walk to World Showcase, little boat to MGM, walk to the Boardwalk, and the pool is just wonderful.

But if you're mainly going to see the MK or have little kids who want to be closer to MK, then GF is probably better.

Now if only I had the $$ for YC this trip...

My kids are 13 and 8 and we'll probably go to MK and MGM, 1 day each. How is the GF pools?? Storm-along-bay?? Thanks!!

I've stayed at Yacht Club, Contemporary, and Polynesian. I'd like to try the Grand Floridian some day, too. My kids were 2 and 5 when we stayed at the YC and the Cont. and the Poly. They liked YC best of all. They thought the monorail was really cool (esp. going through the building at the Cont.), but they loved the boat to MGM and Epcot from YC just as much. Stormalong Bay is a huge factor to consider. It's AWESOME! We spent one day at Stormalong Bay alone, and my kids loved it as much as any park. Next time we go, we'll probably stay at YC. Now, if it were in cooler weather months, when we probably wouldn't swim, I'd probably go for the Grand Floridian because it looks beautiful, and the monorail is so cool.

I stayed at the GF 4 times, and the YC 3 times.
the YC is my favorite!
but it depends on the location you prefer, and the theming, and atmosphere.
the GF is very elegant, and beautiful. the new pool is gorgeous, but nothing compared to storma long bay!
the GF is very convenient to MK, but takes about 30 - 40 minutes to get to Epcot on the monorail!

the YC is very elegant also but with a nautical theme. the location cannot be beat! walk to Epcot, walk to MGM, and 15 minutes to MK by bus!!!
storm allong bay is incredible! it is so much fun, what a beautiful and fun pool! I especially love the hidden hottubs in the rocks!
and it is so nice to be able to walk over to the BW. I just love the YC!

Hello Patio! Just wanted to answer your question about Storm-A-Long bay--it is the BEST pool I have ever seen. It's very big, with twists and turns and complete with a whirlpool, a sandy bottom, bubbles that pop up to the surface and a hot tub. Plus, there's a huge water slide. It is awesome!! This is definitely one of my favorite pools!! Enjoy your trip!!!

Here's another vote for the YC! When we first stayed there, our DD's were about 9 and 11. It has always been their favorite resort! SAB is great, and you CAN'T beat the location!

I really love the location of the YC and since my kids are water nuts, I know they'd love Storm-a-long Bay. However, on my last trip, DD, 13, and I visited the GF and she absolutely fell in love with the place. She loved the monorail and the pool and thought she'd feel 'rich' if we ever stayed there. We always visit the BW and ESPN so I like the idea of being so close to those too. DS and I walked from the BW to YC and rode the boat back across. He thought it was real cool. So, it's a tough decision, that's why I was looking for help. Thanks again for all of your replies!!

in our 10+ times at disneyworld, we have always stayed at the gf. most times we spend half the time at gf and the other half at an epcot resort (bwi, yc or bc concierge). the gf is truly the flagship resort of disney in every way. the lobby, for instance, at the yc is nice, but can't begin to compare with the lobby of the gf. it takes your breath away. imho, i'd say the bwi is second and the yacht and beach third. the pools at the gf are beautiful (not as sprawled out and constantly crowded as storm along bay, and certainly are not "nothing compared to storm along bay", as one user suggested). it's always seemed to me that the monorail to epcot just wisks you there in no time. on the other hand, anyone who has ever taken the boats to the studios and to epcot from the yc/bc know the true meaning of "slow boat to china". they are excrusiatingly (sp?) slow! if you only have 3 or 4 days, go with the best, go with the grand floridian. (imho)

My husband and I have had this conversation on many occassions. In our view the GF is only convienant(sp?) to the MK. Believe it or not this is our least favoriate park.

The YC is within walking distance to both EC and MGM. This works out great because EC is my favoriate park and MGM is my husbands. The YC is also just across from the BW. We enjoy the BW at night very much. Just strolling along or stopping into JellyRolls is so much fun.

So everything else being the same and we just had to choose between the GF or the YC we would choose the YC hands down.

I've always wanted to stay at GF in December. Their Christmas decorations are spectacular! I think it would be a more festive atmosphere for the holidays than YC.
