Getting to Universal from Disney

Just to clarify, I Loved mears, was easy and convienent, the bus trip home was just loooong. So much my DBFF fell asleep on my arm! I did find that in the morning we had a small shuttle, with just 1 other person (was at 7am, so ridiculously early we didnt realise the park didnt open until 10), so maybe try and book Mears for as early or late as possible (for instnace, im guessing the 7pm return shuttle would have been a lot more corwded than our 6pm one!)

Good Luck. If anyone has any bad expeiences with a town car serice (name starts wirh Q), please let me know, so I can be forwarned!

If we were to call a taxi, could we request a van? We are 6 people? I wonder if the price would be the same as a car or would it be more for a van?

Dommiekazommie - please let us know how the town car service goes...... are you going soon?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Any guess as a taxi would cost for seaworld and universal ( we are doing both ) we will be at AKL we are 2 adults ..
we don't want to rent a car .
thanks alot

Hi - we went to Seaworld from POFQ a couple of weeks ago and it cost around $22 each way plus tip. (For us this was cheaper than the Mears shuttle since there was 3 of us - and if there are 6 of you I would think it would be the same for you!) There are usually cabs right in the front of your hotel or if not conceierge can call one for you. We had a van on the way there and there was only 3 of us - I'm sure you could request one :)

This is a great thread. We were thinking about coming in a day or 2 earlier than my bff and her 4 kids. We really want to see Sea World and Universal and I think a taxi would do us just fine (3 of us) since bff and her 4 won't be there. That would be expensive!

You were married at the Beach Club? I would love to see pictures!

We got married in a suite there. Officially Disney doesn't do weddings at the Beach Club, but they have a gazebo at the Yacht Club where they do it. We couldn't afford anything fancy and it was just us and a couple of friends so we got a nice suite and had a little ceremony there. We're saving up and going to have a big vow renewal through Disney Weddings.

Someone on another thread suggested Orlando Taxi Service. Take a look at the guy's website. He does a stop for drinks and snacks included in his price if you need to restock. I haven't used him but may on my next trip.

Return taxis are cheaper if there are over 4 of you I think. I used Mears in September and couldn't fault it. The earliest return you can book is either 2pm or 3pm I think.

I'm going to move this to our transportation board in case the folks over there have additional suggestions.

During our trip last summer, we spent 2 days off site. One was at Seaworld and the other at Discovery Cove. We were staying at POR at the time. Since there were 5 of us, we found it much cheaper and more convenient to use a taxi. They are always right outside the hotels and if you need a van, as we did, they just call one for you and they're there within a few min. The cost was just under 20 each way and we got to have flexibility and a private direct ride. It worked great for us.

Hi there!
My kids and I will be at WDW in June, and during our week we will also be going to Universal (yay for Harry Potter World!) anyways, we will be taking a taxi. How does the return trip work? Do you call when you are ready to be picked up? Meet somewhere?

Thanks for the info!!!

When you exit to the parking lot, there is a section where taxis and vans just wait. You just tell them you need a ride and they take you home. Very simple and super convenient!

Awesome- thanks! I'm from Seattle, and I typically get the cab driver's number that took us to wherever we needed to go, and then we call them directly. I figured it would be different there. That helps a ton!

Since we are a group of 6 who will be needing a "van" taxi, I was wondering if the rates would be the same (car or van)?

Thanks,

Jan

We needed a van too being a party of five. The cost was the same. We had to take a taxi once because it was what was already there and would save us time but it was quite tight.

Thanks. Just trying to get all my facts straight.

Originally we were going to take the Mears bus but calculated at 18.00 each - it was getting expensive plus the time spent going from resort to resort picking up and dropping off people. Then I thought we could rent a car but just the hassle of picking it up and dropping it off (we only have 4 1/2 days with our friends and our girls would love to get to Universal).

Then, thankfully, someone suggested a taxi at about $30.00 each way (I know it depends on the resort and stuff) but still a good price. I was just concerned that they may charge more for a van.

Thanks again,

Jan

Just curious if anyone has ever traveled in a group of 8. Not sure what our best way to get to Universal and back would be. Last year we had 6 and a minivan and it worked fine. With 8 we would need two rental vehicles:( Just wondering if there is a cheaper option via Mears, Taxi or something else.

Your welcome!! :goodvibes As a larger party, after doing the research, it did seem to be the most cost effective way to go. It was around $22 each way for us. We were staying at POR and then once needed a ride to BC after Discovery Cove. That was a little closer to $30. It also was the most convenient as we got to choose when to come and go and it was a direct trip with no stops. Time is always of the essence at Disney. Any other questions, just ask! :thumbsup2

I don't believe 8 would fit in the taxi vans. I think the max. would be 7. When we had a party of 9 one trip, we split the cost of a limo service (Tiffany Town Car). They brought a large van and it worked out well. Since we were splitting the cost with another family it also was the cheapest way to go since the shuttle services charge per person. It was also very convenient.
