we want to spend some time in the city when we visit DLRP. what are the options to get to Paris? how long does the trip take?

if a train (or subway) is an option, does anyone know if there multi-day passes?

RER Red line is 40 minutes to Paris. Get off at Auber for dept stores and CDG-Etoile for Champs Elysees.

Paris Visite card is more expensive than a 5 zone ticket; only buy the Paris Visite if you need the accompanying discounts.

This is why I love these boards; I come on to ask about travel to Paris, and here's the answer, already waiting for me :goodvibes!

thanks a bunch, guys, for the great answers.

bavaria, you said to a 5 zone ticket as it was cheaper than the paris visite. do they sell multi day 5 zone tickets? we'll be there for 5 days and anticipate going into paris multiple times

Is a 5 zone 'mobilis' card the same thing as a 1-day 5 zone 'paris visite' card?
If not, what's the difference and which is better?

the 5 zone mobilis card is different than Paris Visite - Paris Visite has a few discounts but is more expensive. If you are buying the ticket for transportation only, go with the mobilis.

You may find the info on www.rapt.fr but I believe only in French. They really push the Visite card for tourists, and I once had a ticket agent try and refuse to sell me a mobilis, until I chewed him out in French and assured him that I had been working in Paris for a month.

When we were in Paris in March, the 1-day Mobilis (zones 1-5) was 12.10 EUR. The 1-day Paris Visite (zones 1-5) was 16.75 EUR.

bcmba: depending on the day of the week you are going to be there , a Carte Orange may be the way to go. It is a week pass valid monday to sunday and costs 31,50 euros for 5 zones. If you go with the Carte Orange you will need a to take a small passport size photo with you which will be attached to an ID card given to you when you purchase the CO. Be sure to ask if you arent given the card.

Otherwise you can buy individual mobilis tickets each day as mentioned before (12,30 each). Or even better a 5 day, 5 zone ParisVisite pass for 46,60. There is also a 3 day PV pass for 38,10 but thats more costly than 3 mobilis passes.

MorganB offers good advice. We have used a Carte Orange many times. There are two parts: the ticket with a magnetic strip (the ticket goes into the turnstile), and the ID card. The ID card has a number on it that should be written on the ticket to make it valid.

THE ONE day mobilis card, is that good for round trip if in the same day or would that require 2. is there any one way tickets? my daughter may need to take the train just back to paris to get her train to nantes one day where she is going to school.

It's my understanding that it is good for unlimited use (within the zones purchased for) for the entire day.
If she is just making one trip that day, a single use ticket should be cheaper.

I always time my visits now to utilize the Carte Orange, though I know they'll be changing it in the future.

THANK YOU so much DVC_john. My daughter will only be making the trip back into Paris to CDG airport to say goodbye to her boyfriend and then she has her ticket from Paris to Nantes. I am having the worse time trying to understand the rail system and the tickets. My daughter already lost 40 euros on a ticket someone told her to get and we are finding it useless, the 12-25 youth card. So I really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Do you buy the single use at the stations? We will probably use the regular mobilis to get into Paris one day. There are 4 of us and I am sure we will want to go into Paris for atleast one day.

ps - I assume from your name you are also a DVC member - we are also and have been since 1992. love it.

Thanks again for all of the help. Any info you have and would be willing to share as to where the best place to buy tickets, prices, etc, you can email it to me. thank you so much.

So your daughter is going to CDG and not to Paris? Thats a bit different. Mobilis does NOT work for transport to the airports. If she needs to go directly to the airport, I would just put her on the TGV from Disney.
