Getting stuff to room?

Just driving home from a holiday trip. Wishing we were still there.

Just curious, we stayed at SSR this time and since we were there for a week we had a lot of stuff. What has the collective group come up with to help in carrying all that stuff to the room?

Also, this was SSR, so it was more like a condo. Do resorts like the Beach Club Villas have bellmen with carts we can use to get all the stuff to the room? Or is it just for the regular rooms?

All of the resorts have luggage carts for use by Bell Services. They will bring your bags to your room for you and they will expect a gratuity. Most of them will not let you take the carts for your own use.

SSR has Bell Services just like any resort. They will take you and your luggage to your room in a golf cart, take your luggage to your room and the reverse when you are ready to check out.

They are located to the right of the Front Desk area but outside where DME drops off and picks up.

Tipping is never a problem but we drove and we thought it too much of a pain to have them come all the way to our section to haul the stuff up.

Glad we will be able to use them for other trips. But for OKW and SSR I guess we will have to find something.

When we stayed at SSR this past August, we used Bell Services to carry stuff from our car to our villa. When we got to the villa, we called Bell Services and a Bellman was at our villa in a few minutes. We went down to our car, loaded everything onto a luggage cart, and then took it up to the villa. It would have taken me 5-6 trips, if not more, to carry everything up on my own. Since this was our first stay at SSR, the Bellman was very helpful in explaining where the ice machine was located, where the nearest laundry room was at, and even reminded us of the temporary change in the SSR bus route. Bell Services is a very helpful service that we'll use again when we stay at SSR.

We lug the stuff using as many trips as it takes. Sure wish DVC offered self-service carts but not having them doesn't stop us from moving our bags, food stuffs, etc. between villa and car.

Getting our luggage to and from the car wasn't an issue for us because the bigger bags have wheels on them. We were able to organize ourselves to do it in one trip. We're usually in a studio, so there isn't a lot to carry in.

If we're there in a bigger villa and we have groceries to carry up, I definately call for someone to bring a cart.

Our owners locker is another thing I've learned the hard way not to try to carry to/from the room on my own. I don't know about anyone else's, but our weighs about 4,000 lbs -- at least that's how it felt by the time I'd lugged it to the last unit in the SSR hall a few years ago. I always call bell services to deliver and pick up the OL now.

Another tip for SSR bell services -- they're one of the few resorts that will take a reservation the night before for a bellman. We wanted to leave at 7:00 am for our flight last Thursday. I called Wednesday night and set up an appointment to have the OL picked up at 6:45, and they knocked on the door perfectly on time. Making an appointment is very useful. Unlike other resorts, it's sometimes difficult to get someone to come right away when you call -- another thing I learned the hard way one year when we called about 30 minutes before our Magical Express bus and there wasn't anyone available. I broke the wheels on a suitcase trying to use it as a hand cart to get the OL from the Grandstand section to the Carriage House.

Let's hear it for Bell Services!!!!! We just got back from SSR, and those guys were there for us coming and going! We got right into our villa with all our bags. When we were leaving I called the day before and told them our departure time and booked them to pick up our stuff. They were right on time.

The only hiccup in our departure was the advanced check-in. Disney wasn't prepared for all the people and we stood in quite a line. But that wasn't the fault of Bell Services. In any case our bags made it home so can't complain too much.

Unsupervised kids would be using them as giant skateboards, getting hurt, and upping our dues for insurance. Not everyone's children behave like little angels.

Plus, people would stash them in their room when they found them so they could have them first thing in the morning.

We bought a small dolly that we carry in our car and we use it to bring our non-wheeled stuff to our villa.

Haha...I agree! Our three kids are all now old enough to at least pull a rolling suitcase. It's nice having the extra help!

LOL, yes our Owners Locker is the one thing we always use Bell Services for and tip them well for it. We wheel our own luggage, but there's no way we could lug our Owners Lockers.

That is because it is two different services, those that unload actually work for the Valet company, Mears, and bell services works for Disney.

We tip per bag and at the car and then again at the room.

Unfortunately, at the resorts that offer valet parking, the baggage is a two step process. First the valet will unload the car under the porte-cochere. These are not Disney employees. They then hand it off to Bell Services, who are Disney employees, for delivery to your room. This implies you should tip when the luggage is removed from the car AND when it is delivered to your room. Standard tipping is like for a sky cap at the airport $1 to $2 per bag.

We visit several other timeshare each year offering self-service carts. These are 'family-oriented' properties with lots of young guests. I've never seen problems of children misusing the carts. Addressing a later comment, I find that most guests share the carts amicably returning them to the elevator bays when they through. So sad that we don't think Disney guests can be well behaved travelers?

I have not seen any kids playing with carts at Vero. I do not think thats the real reason we can not use carts ourselves.

I have had my luggage switched from one DVC to AKL. Best thing to do if swtching resorts.

So sad that we don't think Disney guests can be well behaved travelers?

I've seen kids "racing" the carts at two different Hampton Inn parking lots, smashing them into the walls and outside of the buildings. I've personally witnessed an adult jumping on a couch at OKW, trying to entertain their children, I heard the noise as I was in the connected studio. I went to the balcony, and could see it through the 1 bedroom window. So why would I think that wouldn't happen with unsupervised luggage carts at Disney resorts?
