Getting room requests....or not!

Thanks all. Yes, I realise these are just requests and not guaranteed. The responses on here though make me wonder if they actually even look at the requests and whether when people get their requests it's just a coincidence.

I don't think they look at the requests.

When you do online check-in, make sure you're not checking the box that says you'll take an available room at the time you check in - that will override all of your other preferences. I made that mistake at BWV - requested close to transportation, and got the very last room on the 5th floor overlooking the quiet pool - the furthest from transportation you can be on the 5th floor - the wing on the other side of the quiet pool only had 4 floors. We were actually closer to the Swan (or is it Dolphin) than to the Boardwalk lobby.

Good info. I found this thread while searching for consequences of online check-in after doing a faxed request on Touringplans. In the past, I've not done online check-in for fear of it overriding any requests faxed. I'll keep this in mind. We should have a mid-morning arrival tomorrow, so I'm hoping for getting close to my request.

Hit or miss with room requests:
May 2016 (online check in) - split stay: Poly standard view- requested Fiji, balcony - got it, POR - standard view - requested corner room, upper floor - got it and my view was actually upgraded to a garden view
May 2015- POR garden view (online check in)- requested upper floor, corner - got the upper floor, but not the corner
Apr 2013- BC garden view- requested a balcony and did not get one - but had a great room overlooking the back courtyard area

I've had great luck with room requests until the trip we just returned from. I used TP fax service and did online check in and pretty much got the exact opposite of what we requested. The front desk CM was very helpful in trying to find something that matched our requests, but there was nothing available. Such is life. We ended up really liking the location we were put in so it all worked out just fine.

I have always gotten my request but they always been vague request. I have asked floor a higher floor and away from the pool. If you get to specific on the request, I have heard of people asking for a certain room number, it is harder to get that. Also with the new texting the room number and skipping the front desk it is harder for a cm to move you if you are not happy with your room.

It has been hit or miss with our requests in our 20+ stays.
The one time that really stands out to me is several years ago at PO we requested the AB section. When we arrived we were assigned a room in the mansions.
I asked the CM checking us in if we could be moved to the AB section. She checked and we were reassigned a room in AB. What was odd was there were a lot of empty rooms around us the whole week. I am not sure why we were not given our request originally. My only thought was maybe they there were not enough maids to service that section?

And that's why we always go to the Front Desk.

In the past three years, yes, we have always gotten our requests.
WL- standard room requested connecting rooms and higher floor. Faxed in also far from smoking every trip. Got a connecting courtyard view underneath the really good suite. Great view of light parade.
WL - standard room requested highest floor and connecting rooms. Got connecting 6th or 7th floor inside the lobby, awesome view of fireworks every night.
AKL - standard requested connecting kudu, we faxed saying zebra was fine and far from smoking and fumes. They tried to upgrade us to a pool view, it was connecting, but we hate hearing the pool. Ended up next to each other further down zebra with a View of the savanna where they have night vision.
POFQ- one night stay before cruise garden view. Requested connecting, high floor, and close to food. Got all three.

Our request history has been a mixed bag with mostly getting what we wanted (sort of). Nothing too horrible. Fingers crossed for next time...

Well......
We checked in to CSR this afternoon and didn't get the Cabana section as we requested.
But I can't blame them this time.
An entire building of the Cabana section can't be occupied until the dead main boiler is replaced.
Oh well.....
We were placed in ground floor rooms in a building in front of the bus stop.
Trade offs are sometimes required.

As an update on this past weekend of May 13 to May 15, I asked for (in Art of Animation) building 1, ground floor, with vehicle characters out of my window. I was put in Building 2 and when I opened the curtains, there sat Fillmore and not too far down, Lightning McQueen himself.

My 18-month old car-and-truck-crazy grandson was ecstatic (and his Pop was too ;-) ).

So they did accommodate the important requests, and in my TP fax I stated ground floor and vehicular views as being priority because of my grandson. I'm not sure if it helped, but I did select ground floor on my online check in too.

We were all happy campers.

Four trips in a row between 2008 and 2011, I got exactly the location I asked for at POR, Pop and CSR. Disney is known for its great customer service, and it did not disappoint me. :)

i will say that, since you likely have a long stay, what you want may not be available when you arrive, but may become available during your stay. Check in at the desk and let them know that if the room you want becomes available, you would be willing to move (if you are!) I had a horrible room assigned, but was able to move 1 or two days later.

Just got back from BWV May 12-15. I requested Village Green, high floor, near elevator...specifically NO VIEW of the scary clown pool (I spoke to MS to make request). We got 5th floor, first room from elevator, staring right at the clown pool.
