Getting Ready for our July Trips to the World

I went back to the gym today after 4 days off - just had too many complications over the weekend. I also did something to my ankle and it was really sore for a few days. Anyway, had a good workout today. I weighed in yesterday and was down 2 lbs :yay: Hopefully, I can keep that trend up!

Well done on the 2lbs :goodvibes

Hope your ankle is better soon! What is it on here with the sore legs/knees/ankles?? - I'm scared I'm going to start hurting soon!! Do you think you can catch a sore leg virus if you don't have the right anti-virus software! ;)

:rotfl: I certainly hope sore legs are not contagious!! I think my ankle came from using a hybrid cycle without the seat adjusted properly, I think I was straining my ankle on it. Won't do that one again.....

I haven't checked in since Sunday but have been doing well. I'm using more points than I would like to but I'm still in my target range. Monday night I had my PT session and thought he was trying to kill me. Last night I did Turbo Fire Class 30.

Sounds like you are doing great One Bad Apple!!

Well my week on the scales started off badly - 2lb gain since last Monday! OOPS!! Downloaded a new app on my phone last night which records calories and exercise so maybe that'll keep me in check!!

Week of exercise started off well though, left work bang on time this afternoon and headed straight to the gym for a spin class followed by an hour of Bodyjam which was great fun! Food been ok today.

So aiming to be good all week but I know the weekend won't be great as we are all staying two nights in a pub! eg Pub food and beer - at least there is exercise involved! and I'm veggie so I won't eat the big fried brekkie in the mornings that everyone else will have!

Going to try and check in here every day to keep my focus. Good luck for the week everyone!

I think checking in helps with your accountability so you are apt to do better knowing you are going to share how you are doing. I think that was the key for me when I joined WW, I had to get weighed in every week, which helped me stay accountable.

Hi ladies, I'm baaaack.

My cousins were here (NY) from Scotland for 12 days. We had a lot of fun, ate a lot and shopped a lot. We also went into NYC for the day and generally had tons of fun. Ummm...the chocolate from there is way better than it is here.

Anyway, they left last night and I'm a bit sad today. But now it's time to get serious about losing perhaps 20 lbs before vacation. Soooo, after I take today to rest up I'm going to get my butt in gear tomorrow.

Anyone want to recommend an easy start, besides walking, for someone in terrible shape?

Sorry you are feeling blue. The only suggestions that I have for beginner type workouts are the wii, walking, Slim in 6 and Turbo Jam from Beachbody are great. There are a ton of DVDs out there that are geared towards beginners.

I'm not being very good right now...in fact, I had a whole post about my day and how horribly awful I've been with my food choices and my YDD came up and punched keys which deleted everything I typed :headache::headache:

I will say that I have been cheating on my diet the past few days with NOT good options (right now I'm staring at part of a Quarter Pounder). I'm begining to think that my time of the month is comming up soon because that's when I have little to NO willpower what so ever. It's like my body takes my willpower (the part of me who helps me decided that yes a handful of strawberries is soo much better for me then that package of oreo's with a large glass of milk) and ties it up and gags it when this happens. I can somewhat hear that part of me and yet for some reason I go for the most fattening, sugary, salty BAD FOR ME thing I can pick up. I'm my body's worst enemy when I near my time of the month and so would like to hear I'm not alone or if anyone has hints as to how to break my body from tying up my willpower I would LOVE to know them!

I agree with the time of the month thing. I'm positive that was my problem last week.

Where in Scotland are you cousins from? Did you mean our chocolate is way better? I agree, chocolate is one of the few hideously fattening things I don't touch in the states - tried Hershey once and thought it tasted of vomit - lol! You do lots of other things way better though! Oh and you have Disney!! ;)

Anyway, left work sharpish again today and did another spin class. Was great but I'm feeling a little saddle sore  after two days in a row. I am booked again for tomorrow then better leave it alone til the weekend or I won't be able to sit on my bike!! :lmao:

The two who came this time are from Hamilton and from Paisley. One from Hamilton comes at least once a year to visit me :) Coming to NY to visit us is WDW :rotfl2: I always have her bring me two things: tea bags and chocolate. Both of which are way better over there. And the chocolate is KILLING me :rotfl:

My mom came here in her early 20's, met my dad and the rest is history. She never planned on staying and has a huge family over there. Are you from Scotland?

I got in 37 minutes on the wii fit today, iced my knee afterward and had a decent breakfast of 1 egg, two egg whites and 2 pieces of Canadian bacon.
My dd has no school today (who knows why now?) so I'm going to convince her we should go for a walk, as long as the rain holds off.

Dinner tonight is going to be center cut pork chops done in the grill pan with veggies. Fruit for dessert. I'm going to try to do only healthy carbs and no pasta, potatos, rice, etc for a few weeks. We'll see where it goes from there. Last time I did that I made that and some 30 min/day workouts after
4 weeks I lost about 22 lbs. My dh lost 30. He's all for getting back to it, too, so that's the good part :)

Hope everyone has a good day!

Thanks Lauren! Glad to hear you are doing well too! The personal trainer may be killing you but I am sure it is helping!!

Wow - that is an impressive weight loss! We have really cut down on the potatoes and rice, still have pasta about once a week - it is something that my picky kids will eat.......

Thanks!! It sure does!!

After I posted, we went out and did some errands. My leg did get pretty sore, but my husband and I realized that I'd forgotten to ice after working out!

Yesterday, I did another 20 minutes, but iced for 20 minutes and kept my leg elevated for most of the afternoon. No pain at all. One more attempt tonight and if I stay pain free, I'm taking Tuesday off and then pushing the time up!

However.

I also got on the scale today. There are a couple of problems with this:
-I didn't sleep well. This always seems to push my weight up.
-It's a certain time, which also pushes my weight up.
-It was a Monday. Monday's are bad days to get on the scale!

But it still wasn't pretty. Even if you figure a pound or two for the three things above, it's still not pretty. I just need to put my mind to it and log everything I eat and do a much BETTER job of eating! I can do this!!

(but it's frustrating, anyway!)
My bad habit with the scale is weighing myself every morning, it really messes with my head I think so I'm going to switch to Wednesday instead that way I'm not having a case of the Monday's on the scale. GREAT work this week though!

I do like the Wii fit. We also have EA Sports Action for the Wii. I was thinking of getting Zumba for it, but I read reviews that it was really hard.

I was just talking to my friend and we're going to start walking every day. I want to walk indoors, because the weather here is going to be disgusting this week, but she wants to go outside. I don't know what we're going to do :)
THANK YOU! You reminded me of another fitness tool I have in my house (that's been laying dormant since I started going to the gym!) Today I wont' be making it to any classes offered at the post gym because my ODD has pink eye so after I clean the carpet up I will bust out with my balance board and remotes, do some jogging and hula hooping! I know this sounds a bit trite, but you could always walk the mall in the morning if you have one near you. I've heard of groups of ladies and gentlemen who when the weather is to cold or wet here who go walk around our mall.
The only suggestions I have is to either distract yourself from eating - start doing something to get your mind off of it - or, just allow yourself a tiny bite of the bad item. Last evening I soooooo wanted ice cream. So I had one tiny scoop with about a half teaspoon of black cherry syrup......not much but it did help satsify the craving. It is hard, hang in there!!!
Tink, I will beat the PMS beast into the ground somehow...I just have to stop letting it rule my life and my waistline! I think I will do what my mom does...she has popscicles and let's herself have one a day...cold, sweet and takes the edge off.
I agree with the time of the month thing. I'm positive that was my problem last week.
Thank you for letting me know I'm NOT alone! GREAT work on your end by the way!

So as I said before I'm doing better today...before I made my meal I actually sat down and THOUGHT about what I was going to make and put in my body. I admit though that my brunch is more protein then veggies and fruit but I still have a fruit tray to snack on (celery, carrots and peppers YUMMM!) as well as my apples, Kiwi and strawberries! I will do good today! I will eat right and I will get in atleast 30 minutes of physical activity! Let me just say that talking to you guys is helping to get me back on the track again after I fall down into the grass!

I totally hear you - mine is not PMS but the menopause that hit me like a mack truck about 4 years ago. I like the popsicle idea a lot!!!

Ok, so all in all yesterday went well. I ate well and, while I didn't get a walk in, I did do some work with dumbells for about 20 minutes. Today dd has school, so I should manage to get to do more :rotfl:

Edy's makes a no sugar added frozen fruit bar on a stick (popsicle) that is pretty good. 1 is 25 calories. I was eating them as a treat for a while. Then my dd realized she liked them and I haven't gotten around to buying more lol

Yesterday was another good day. I went to the gym where I worked on upper body and then came home and took the dog for a 40 minute walk. Today I will probably not get a workout in because DS has his spring concert tonight. Depending on what time we get home and the weather, I may attempt to go for a run.

Those sound yummy. I'll have to check to see if our store has them.

Don't ya love it when you find something that's good for you and tastes good and then your kids discover them too so you don't get a single one?

I did sooo good yesterday that is until the last few calories of the day. See MFP wouldn't just let me have the 300 some odd calories left on my thing. It kept saying I needed to eat MORE and would go into starvation mode if I didn't get my intake up there. So I ate 2 packs of sliced apples...hardly made a DENT but it put me right at my sugar intake limit. I ended up having a bowl of cereal and still had 10 calories left (and was STUFFED) but it STILL said I would send myself into starvation mode :confused3 So I had a granola bar...went over calories, fat, sodium and sugar intake for the day and felt like a cow. Today though I'm going to nip it in the bud! Today I will STOP eating by 7pm. Nothing will pass my lips after that point except water and green tea. I also didn't get to the gym yesterday with Meghan getting pink eye, on the upside the doc said she could go back to school today (and her eye has deffinately improved) so Gillian is going to hourly care (although I'm almost out of hours so I will have to figure something out there).

This morning I made a 4 egg white with diced ham and graded baby bell cheese wrap on a spinach and garden herb tortilla...I was :scared1: by the amount of sodium I'm putting in my body...who knew egg whites even had sodium?

I hear you! I do great during the day, in the evening is when I blow it. I need to get to the gym today. I had lunch out with a friend, and that is always tough. I think I am going to have to become antisocial......lol!!

You don't have to become anti-social...you just have to make it to where the waiter's dislike you. I'd like the chicken sandwhich, grilled with lettuce and tomato but NOT on a bun! I also do not want any form of mayo on the side or otherwise. I'd also like a side salad with 2 TBSP of low fat dressing on the side...not drenched all over and please leave off any croutons or cheese. Oh and a water with an orange slice in it please.

I thought I was doing good today but so far Ive gone over my sugar intake and my carbs...but aren't there good carbs like veggies?

I understand your frustration - I hate the scale!! But, hang in there - eventually you will start to see some improvement. Keep the positive attitude!

Thanks!! Been a good week since I last checked in! I have very faithfully recorded everything I've eaten and done a very good job at staying in my calorie range. I've also bumped up my exercise by 5 minutes with no ill effects.

Well done on the 2lbs :goodvibes

Hope your ankle is better soon! What is it on here with the sore legs/knees/ankles?? - I'm scared I'm going to start hurting soon!! Do you think you can catch a sore leg virus if you don't have the right anti-virus software! ;)

Hey, I EARNED mine! If by earned you mean "multiple surgeries on the OTHER leg and so on and so forth." I just recommend that if you're exercising and you think your calf is cramping up on you... stop. Just... stop. Don't do anything. Rest, take anti-inflammatories, and come back in a week. I learned the hard way that what I thought were two cramps were two tears.

My bad habit with the scale is weighing myself every morning, it really messes with my head I think so I'm going to switch to Wednesday instead that way I'm not having a case of the Monday's on the scale. GREAT work this week though!

Yeah, I only do one official weigh in a week. Some people can handle daily to keep an eye on things, but I'm going more for the average than the day to day fluctuations. Like, last night, I had a Chipotle burrito bowl. I know what the calorie count was and it was fine and fit in... but the salt content would surely push my weight up this morning!

This weekend, we're heading to Cleveland to meet up with a couple that we became friends with on our cruise last year (she and I had started chatting before the trip, but we discovered reality was even better than email! Even if she is old enough to be my mom, as she frequently tries to remind me). My goal is to make BETTER choices. Not choices at meal times that will leave me cranky and unhappy... but better. If I don't want a salad and that's a grilled steak, well, without the butter, the steak isn't that terrible whereas the salad might have friend chicken! ;)

I'm not planning on any specific exercise, because we're going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The walking will be enough stress on my leg, so I'm going to take care of me. That reminds me, I should pack some gallon size storage bags to hit up the ice machine to ice my leg at night!

Congrats on keeping up with your food intake and exercise! Glad to hear things are going well. I weigh in everyday, but those fluctuations are frustrating, I just only count it once a week. I think it is important just to focus on better choices when eating out. Just being nosy, where are you from - we are near Pittsburgh but I am originally from Ohio, just west of Cleveland. I still go up there every so often, still have cousins in the area and for pure nostalgia.

I had a pear with lunch - it is a fruit but had almost as many calories as my half of a ham sandwich......

I am already creative when ordering. Did you ever see "When Harry Met Sally"? Great movie and interesting ordering habits - although Meg Ryan is not doing it to count calories - lol:rotfl:

My husband and I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan... but our friends live closer to you. (I don't have their address on hand, but they live near Pittsburgh, about 4 hours from Cleveland... so it's a good middle ground!)

That sounds like a really good breakfast, actually. But, I never knew egg whites had sodium either. I know the cheese and ham do LOL

I have been weighing in every day, but just because I'm doing the Wii fit test :) I'm only going to really take note of it once a week. Although I've lost 2 lbs so far. IMO that is just from giving up soda and bread LOL

I had another good day yesterday. I got in 40 mins of exercise, stayed within my calorie range and wrote everything down. I have an awesome little program on my phone that makes it so easy ;)

OH yeah, two favorite new snack words (and a letter!) I never thought I'd say:

SPECIAL K BAR

That sounds like a really good breakfast, actually. But, I never knew egg whites had sodium either. I know the cheese and ham do LOL
The ham and cheese I expected it from because all in all they get processed but eggs come right from a chicken and then are washed in water, put in those little crates and put in our grocery stores! Those shouldn't have sodium espeically because I didn't add salt...pepper yes (I LOVE pepper) but no salt.

I have seen "When Harry Met Sally" multiple times! I even forced my girls to watch it:rotfl2: I know she's not ordering for calories but it's just amazing how picky she is about her food:rotfl2: Course maybe it explains how she stayed so thin through the years?

Great job on the healthy choices! Hope you have fun at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

I'm typing fast as I can because I have to get going to get a good bike at spin class. I went to go weigh myself this morning and apparently my scale got broken some how...I either get the E for error or I get it flashing the numbers 1-3 at me! Maybe it's God's way of telling me to avoid the scale for a while lol. I ran and lifted weights yesterday and didn't really feel anything until this morning. My arms and thighs are KILLING me and of course I can't find my tiger balm to help relieve some of the tension in my muscles. One more fiber tab and I have to go and refill my bottle of water and get out the door. I did really good last night until I decided NOT to waste the pineapples I used the juice from to make the kids chicken. I had a slice of pineapple upside down cake when I was done. I know very very bad of me but It will take time to get over my sugar addiction.

I didn't end up in spin class as I would have hoped:( When I got to the gym, the hourly care slots were all full (they are short staffed) so I waited for an hour and a half at my friend's house, talking with her. Then I went back and realized that the pool was closing for some scuba class at 12 noon. It was 11am so I had a good solid hour to swim laps. I got out a kick board and a pair of flippers and swam laps for about 40 minutes, jogged in the water for 5 and then ran on the treadmill for 5. At this point, my thighs were JELLO so I came home. I will be mowing the lawn here shortly too which also add's to my exercise intake!
