Getting over my vanity at Disneyland....

Ok, you know the difference between a nice pony tail and a bad pony tail? Well, I have seen tons of women at DL with the "nice" pony tail, meaning their hair is parted then pulled neatly back with no flyaways. They also look great wearing nice white polo shirts and khaki capris with cute sandals, earrings and jewelry the whole bit.

Yeah, none of these women would be me!:rotfl:

I've tried, especially on days that we do our Christmas pictures there but after about 15 minutes my flyaways pop out and curl around my face, my part goes crazy and my makeup magically disappears. I did this 2 years in a row for pictures and gave up. Every other day it was throw on some waterproof mascara and put the hair up in the bad pony tail and go.

I live under the fantasy that we are all beautiful princesses at DL no matter what we look like when we enter!princess:

It works for me.

After Splash Mountain, I will be wearing waterproof mascara from now on. The hair??? I give up, and realize that most people are in the same shoes too!!! I too am short, and don't like to wear tennies with capris!:scared: Shoes in winter if cold...Uggs!! Shoes in sunny weather?:goodvibes Clarks or some other well made shoe or sandal. The price investment is way worth it!!!!
Sounds like Santa Baby needs to be elected for "What Not to Wear" for sure. It's funny, but everytime I see someone like her, or someone with horrible makeup, I always say to myself..."She needs to go on that show"!!!!! :rotfl:
Vanity?? Me no way! Umm...yeah right.:cool1: I just had my legs lasered pixiedust: so I wouldn't have to look at my awful spiders anymore while wearing those cute capris!!!!! Have a wonderful time!!!!

ok ladies.....here ya go.....I'm wearing overalls for goodness sakes! I call them my "happy pants" cause they're so comfy. But let's face it...I'm a 44 yr old woman with no dignity what-so-ever.

sigh...

(we won't even talk about the hair)
(don't go there I said!!!)

Oooh, and they have lots of pockets so you don't have to wear the fanny pack!!!!!:thumbsup2 :rotfl:
PS- Maybe I shouldn't have said that for those of you who love FP's!!!:cool1: SORRY!!!::yes:: Anyways, "to each her own." We really are a nice group of Dissers!:lovestruc
PPSS-Rosie your hair looks great!I l love the color!!

This may help put things in perspective, gals...

I will never forget there was a post about a year ago on the boards from a love-sick man whose girlfriend took - are you ready - 3-5 hours to get ready every day! He was posting to see if there was a place for her to get her hair done (I think) to save some time so he could get her to the parks. (If I am remembering the post correctly - tried to do a search for it, but no luck!)

Now, I'm sorry, but what's the point? :confused3 Are you going to ride any rides that might mess up your hair after that? What if your make-up melts in the sun? What if your clothes get wet or you get sweaty?

I felt so sorry for this guy, because I kept thinking about all the things in life he/they were missing while she primped!:scared:

Just put the ponytail in and get on with it, I say!:thumbsup2

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who thinks about how wearing sneakers will not look good with my outfits! But I digress, because that's what I usually end up doing, although I have tortured myself in my favorite sandals on a few occasions.

I didn't realize my hair was going to be such a problem.....and I do not look remotely good with it in a ponytail....oh well, I'll just have to deal with it I guess.

And I wouldn't call myself vain per se, just "particular"......KWIM? When I was being induced with my daughter, I woke up at 3:30 and realized my water had broke. Knowing the nurse was due in shortly to check me, I went into the bathroom so I could fix my hair and brush my teeth!

You are SO not the only one :) It's a great big ado for me to go shopping before a DL trip to make sure I have clothing that is both cute & functional for the parks. I cannot even begin to express how many hours I spent shopping online and in stores for the perfect shoes to bring with me for my last trip in November. I've spent an equal amount of time shopping for multiple pairs of shoes for my upcoming WDW trip.

I don't think it's vain to care what you look like...not one bit. :) While I'm a bit obsessive, I wouldn't consider myself vain in any regards :cool1: I can safely say the OP isn't either!

UtahBelle-
I feel your pain. My husband read this post and just started to laugh! We are so much alike. We are going to Disneyland in 2 weeks and I already have my kids matching outfits all planned with matching layering pieces! I also hate wearing tennis shoes unless I am working out. So here are some of the things that I am doing to get over vanity and realxing a bit while I am there. I finally broke down and bought some really cute white Diesel athletic shoes that I think I will actually work with my capris (GULP). :worried: My 2 girls and I also have naturally curly hair and I have found that braids for the girls are an awesome solution to the humidity(the next day we wear it crimpy). My husband wants me to buy the girls Disney Crocs for the trip, but I have never let them wear thier crocs unless they are outside playing but I think I am going to actually do it. So I am really trying to relax a bit.....we'll see how it goes! Let me know if you have any other ideas!
Susan
P.S. When are you going to be in Disneyland?

I've decided that Disney is not a fashion show and we should just go to have fun.

Replace the word "Disney" with the word "life" and you've got something. :sunny:

I completely agree with everyone! When I am at DL, I dont' need the magic mirror to tell me I am not the fairest one of all!!

Andrea

Add me to the list. My hair is pretty straight, so not an issue with frizzy, but I have such sun sensitivity, that even with sunglasses, I need a hat when I'm out in the sun all day. So, I have my various hats that I wear and I always feel like I look stupid! And very touristy!
One trick to make the hair look a little more "special" is to pull it into an upsweep or french twist. Still up, off the face and neck and no frizz, but looks a bit nicer.
I don't do makeup while I'm there, either, unless I'm looking at a special dinner/meal.
I french braid my DD hair most of the time when on vacation. It's so fine it looks like a rats nest by mid-day if I don;t!

I've given up when we go to the park. As long as my clothes match and I'm confortable, I'm good to go. People aren't there to see me anyway. lol

Right now I'm just hoping this "not what I asked for" haircut I go this weekend grows out a good bit before our May trip so I can pull it out of my face while I'm there.

Well I can tell you I am turning 40 soon and I really don't give a hoot to be honest with you. Now mind you when I am at home I live in sweats and my crocs with socks even LOL. Comfort is key to me and I don't even wear makeup nor do I do much with my hair except wash it and let it dry naturally.

When I go to the parks I DO wear jeans and tshirts or sweat shirts and I usually do my hair and wear makeup but let me tell you comfort is the key. I don't wear ANYTHING uncomfortable and I either wear my sketchers or my crocs. I am there to have fun not win a beauty contest and comfort is my number one priority. I try to dress my girls as cute as possible for pics etc but again I make sure they are comfortable. Esp when it comes to footwear.

I suppose in my youth I wouldn't be caught dead not looking perfect ie my 15 year old daughter is that way now, but when you are old no one cares.

I know some people are in to that but I just look at the people in the heels and tight clothes and shake my head. :)

Not trying to sound rude but I didn't feel like reading everyone's posts after page 1 so if someone already said this I do apologize and this is for you :flower3:

Now I was going to say it sure makes you wonder how people living there can always look so darn good. I always try the first day I'm there to wear nice matching outfit, hair done up all cute and make-up to boot. By the time I step outside my hair is ringlet curly, my clothes are sweaty and too hot and my make-up makes me feel gross. The next day I'm in jeans and tank and tennis shoes, hair in a pony pulled through my cap and no make-up on. Now that's sexy!

Go Girl! PS- Hey! Where ya been??

Go Girl! PS- Hey! Where ya been??

lol! I've been watching my sister at my mom's while my mom is at a funeral for the week and they only have a laptop with super slow internet and I hate laptops so it's a little hard to DIS. Today I'm sucking it up though because I've been missing you guys.

I'm so happy I found this thread. After struggling with this vanity obsession both at DL and WDW (with that horrible humidity), this is the solution I finally came up with:
1) A touch of foundation with SPF 15 or greater
2) Waterproof mascara
3) One ponytail
4) One pair of really cute Coach sneakers (or similar)
5) One pair of really cute sunglasses

The foundation ensures I do NOT become lobster red by the end of the day.
The mascara means I will not have black streaks running down my face from heat, sweat & the Grizzly River Run.
Ponytail is to make sure my hair does not frizz, curl, flatten or do other bizarre and unwanted tricks from riding rides.

Finally, after months of planning itineraries and outfits, we're at the parks and others pass and comment "cute sneakers" as they look up only to see my sunglassed face quickly pass by incognito so they really don't have a chance to notice the terrible hair, makeup and mascara streaks that have occurred regardless of what I have done to prevent them.

I go with the "we're all Princesses" theme at Disney!

I will honestly admit that I am a metrosexual. That all comes crashing down when I visit DL. With the exception of the colder months in the year, my suitcase consists of shorts and t-shirts. I don't even care if they match and the trio of hats makes it quite easy to hide the bedhead. And forget about shaving, the razor stays home. Don't worry, I still shower, put on deodorant, brush my teeth and take showers daily - and I still feel sexy ;-)
