I have no problems with destination weddings -- especially if your immediate family has the means, and/or much of the spread across the US family would be traveling anyway, so asking them to fly to Florida is no more onerous (and possibly cheaper) than asking them to fly to New Hampshire, etc.
However, I (and I think others) DO think it's bridezilla behavior to plan an overseas wedding that guarantees costs of several thousand dollars apiece simply for airfare/accommodations when members of your immediate family are not in a financial position where that's reasonable. Not to mention copping an attitude about it if they don't jump for joy at the prospect.
Consideration for others matters -- yes, it's the bride's day, but just as she shouldn't ask her 9 months pregnant matron of honor to get on a ladder to decorate the church hall, she shouldn't expect relatives who are struggling financially to fly overseas to watch her get married.
It doesn't mean she can't get married where she pleases -- she just has to understand that a consequence of that may be a smaller wedding.
