getting engaged at wdw

* Please note that The above quotations were from a PM, The M:S comment was a little tacky, but you can't edit after you send... Also, I do not generally post openly engagement suggestions (on the possibility that the Engagee is on the boards...

My apologies if I offended anyone!!!

:jumping2:

That is funny...about the engagee being on the board :earseek: (not the ms thing) I don't think much offense was taken , not from me anyway but one thing is for sure- you are one creative person lol!

After I sent the PM, I rethought the MS thing as being tacky... Oh, I got the Don't post thing from the www.giftsofalifetime.com folks; it kind of makes sense; My DW was the one who set me up on the Dis, and we frequent a lot of the same places. If I had a suprize for her, I could not post it. She checks up on me to make sure I am not trying to be too handy with my axe...(all people on the internet are axe-murderers!) Seriously, I have no secrets from her, and there are times she goes looking for me on the boards because Messenger is disabled at my office, but not the Dis...)

I just got engaged last Sunday at Epcot. We were in town for a Friday night wedding (not at Disney) and since Sunday was my birthday and we have annual passes, we decided to make a trip of it. It rained most of the day Saturday and after spending Sunday morning at MGM we decided to grab lunch at the Coral Reef. Since we have annual passes and go so often we were in no hurry to do and see everything so we took a leisurely walk around the World Showcase. I bought one of those little passports and was having fun going to every country to get the stamps. We were stopped by Lonnie in America and told to go into the gift shop to get a phone call from Goofy - singing happy birthday and then he took us into the restaurant and had the crowd in there give me 3 Cheers. By the time we made it to Canada I was exhausted and HOT. It was close to 6 and we had dinner reservations for the California Grill at 8:15, so I wanted to get back to the room and shower. My now fiance dragged me back behind the Canadian Pavilion to the entrance to the 360 Theater where there's waterfalls and it's very quiet (other than the rushing water). I was hot and cranky and kept trying to leave and he kept hugging me and saying things like "isn't this nice...?" "...yeah, it's great. Ok, let's go." But he kept pulling me back and I finally squirmed a little and said "Let's go, what do you want?" And he answered, "I want you to marry me," and opened his hand to reveal his grandmother's ring from 1915. I was floored. I knew we would get engaged sometime this summer but I had talked myself out of it happening in Disney World just because I didn't want to be anxious and waiting for it all week. Apparently he had been carrying it around in his pocket for 2 days and was waiting for the right moment. He wanted it to be private, but in the parks and Epcot has always been our favorite.

The worst part was, we called our parents and then both our cell phone batteries died, so we couldn't even call our friends.

Congrats! That is a Wonderful story. I am glad you had such a magical time. What a wonderful story to be able to tell everyone.

We were in Epcot last week and saw someone propose in the Morrocan restaurant. Very cool!!!! (she said yes)

BTW: I highly recommend the lemon chicken! LOL

Thanks, it was great and I was actually genuinely suprised. Dinner at the California Grill was awesome that night. We bought a half bottle of champagne and the bar tender gave us strawberries. The gave us free cake for dessert. It was more than I could have hoped for.

So now, on with the planning. Hoping for late January at the Wedding Pavilion, American Adventure and then Illuminations on the Italy Isola. Been trading phone calls with DFTW since Wednesday afternoon. So Excited!

We got engaged in the Crystal Palace in July of '01. My wife is a huge Tigger fan and I could not think of a better place to propose.

It all started out with a normal day at the MK. The only difference was I was sweating for a different reason, not the oppressive Florida heat. I was also paranoid that I would lose the ring. Sometime during the day I saw a glass slipper in a gift shop. I purchased the slipper and had it engraved with "Will You Marry Me?". I was able to get away long enough by telling my wife that I had to use the facilities. I guess 45 minutes passes quickly at the kingdom, she never asked what took so long.

We already had PS at Crystal Palace and my goal was to propose to her with Tigger. Well we were pretty much done with dinner and no Tigger. Sure, we had Pooh, Eyeore and Piglet, but Tigger was avoiding us. I did not fly to Florida protecting a ring with my dear life for Tigger to avoid us.

I told my wife I needed to use tha facilities again, boy she must think I have an overactive bladder. :rotfl: I took this oppurtunity to speak to the "manager" at the CP. He immediately summoned Tigger, we huddled at the 50 acre line with the other characters and our plan was set. Unknown to me he had the waiter tell the surrounding tables about my little plan.

As we ate dessert Tigger came over to the table. I had the ring inside the slipper and as my wife and Tigger were posing I fumbled for my camera, which just happened to be in my backpack with the ring/slipper. Instead of pulling out the camera I was on one knee and pulled out the slipper and ring.

It was truly a magical moment. Our side of the restaurant all applauded and the other characters came over and gave us high fives.

I can say I married my soulmate, we just celebrated our 2nd anniversary and the birth of our little man!

Great stories, everyone. But boy, after reading through some of these posts, I feel like a fool. Here's how I ended up proposing (I say ended up, since it really didn't go as planned!).

June 1999 - So, I buy the ring, we plan the trip and it's time to go. We had decided to drive and take her car, which made hiding the ring a task, especially since we still lived with our respective parents at the time. So, me being a car guy, decides that I'll give the car a once over to make sure it's good for the trip, and wash and wax it (gotta make it long, so that she'll take my car and go home...hehehe). For some reason (which I don't remember), I didn't want to hide the ring in my suitcase. So during the time I had the car, I slipped the ring (in the box, of course) under the spare tire in the trunk. Later, she came and picked up the car and went home. He he, she had no idea. I like it that way. ::yes::

Fast forward to WDW. We hit MK first (of course!) and when we parked, I managed to slip the ring box into my....ahem-fannypack-ahem. We go from start to finish, and end up in Liberty Square to watch the Electric Light Parade that starts shortly. Here's where the "magic" is going to happen. No pun intended.

"OK Dave, gather yourself, you've been with her for a long time, so this should be easy." Yeah right.

As she's looking on, I manage to slip into my pack, get the box out, and slip it into the leg of my baggy shorts, under my thigh. "Whoa, she almost saw that. OK, deep breath, here we go." As I slip my hand under my leg to get the box, a train of kids and adults come walking by and now there's no place for me to kneel down. As their train ended, another one was coming from the other direction. "You gotta be kidding me!", I say to myself. :sad2:

As I finally have a clear path, out go the lights. Good thing the ring box has a little light built in that shines down on the rock. "This ring is going to look awesome in the dark with the light on it." For some reason, my nerves just don't allow me to do the deed. I'm beating myself up. :headache:

"Would you just do it? Uh-oh...oh no! Here comes the parade! I waited too long! OK, OK, don't sweat it, just do it after." (I'll find out that waiting until the end wasn't a good idea!)

We watch the final part of the ELP, everyone is clapping and cheering loudly. I look at her, grab the box, inhale and....WHAM! People everywhere! If I thought there was no room when the families walked by before the parade, there SURELY wasn't any room now. :crowded: "#*%!@#*^%$#!!!!" Over the PA, they are asking that everyone head toward the exit. "Come on, let's get outta here", she says. "Not yet, let's wait until the crowd gets ahead of us." It went on like this for a few minutes until she got real insistent, and a CM was walking by and instructing everyone to head to the exit. "Dang", I thought. I was pretty upset by this point, not believing that I had chickened out to this point.

The crowd had made some good distance on us, that by the time we reached Cindy's castle, it was pretty empty. "Perfect! This is it!! Oh...who's that over there looking over here? Hmm, lemme stall. Hey Hon! Come stand over here so I can take a picture of you in front of the castle!" I stalled through 4 or 5 pictures, and STILL couldn't do it. I don't know what I was so nervous about. Over the PA, a message stating the last tram time came on, and we realized that time was quickly approaching, so off we went. I felt defeated.

We get to Grumpy's parking section and hopped off the tram. As we get to the car, I decide that this is it.

For real. Really. No kidding this time.

I open the door for her, she gets in, and I kneel. She then looks at me wierd and says, "What the heck are you doing?"

And the rest, as they say, is history. :groom: :bride:

Disney is a great place to propose!! These stories are all great :goodvibes Here is our story.

HOW IT HAPPENED

I guess for starters I should set the scene. We went to Walt Disney World in Orlando, May 16-23, 2004. I think I really surprised her with the engagement. She claims to not have had a clue, but she later admitted that she did think it was the perfect opportunity for me. I was nervous the whole morning before we went to the park, and she couldn't understand why. I was very nervous, not because I was worried what the answer would be, but because I didn't want to mess it up. I wanted it to be perfect!! I had rehearsed the whole thing many times with our dog Rusty listening to me :rotfl: . He never ran away, he just sat there and cocked his head from side to side every time, so I figured it had to be an ok speech!! I"ll admit I was having a hard time getting started and things were not going as I planned. I had to improvise and I asked Kat if I could give her something. She looked at me weird and said "sure I guess." I reached in my pocket and pulled out the ring and she started flapping her hands and crying. I asked her to marry me and without hesitation she said "YES!!" A few hours later as we were leaving the Magic Kingdom for lunch a woman came up to us out of the blue and asked if we had just gotten engaged. A little taken off guard by this we said "yes." She told us she had taken a photo of the "moment" and if we wanted a copy she would mail it to us. She sent us the picture a week later and it was perfect...it is me putting the ring on Katharine's finger. It was great how she had captured that special moment.

What Katharine didn't know was that the whole trip was planned just so I could propose to her in front of Cinderella's Castle. I could not think of a more magical place to show my ultimate display of affection, than right there. It is a memory that will last a lifetime, just as our love will as well. I Love You Katharine!!!

WOW!!!

i get so choked up reading all of these romantic stories...

I witnessed my best friends engagement in Disney. We went down together, and then our boyfriends flew down on New Year's Eve to join us in Disney. After settling their stuff in the hotel room we headed off to MGM. When we got there her and I went to go check out a couple of things while her now husband went and found Mickey and gave him the engagement ring. My best friend and I are HUGE Mickey fans, so when we met back up with the guys we went and stood in line to see Mickey Mouse and have our pictures taken with him. Well once we got up to see him, Mickey mouse pulled out the ring and gave it to Jenn. She was so confused and didn't know what was going on. Everyone in line was cheering and clapping.... it was great!
