It seems like someone here said there's an app for taxis.

We usually use Lyft, but I guess Canada doesn't have that yet. If there is a taxi app, is it like Lyft? And what's the app?

Thoughts....

We did the hop on/hop off bus for the three days we were three. They had a deal that you paid for one day and got two free.

Catching a taxi at the airport is very easy. They have a line with a person directing the taxis so that you'll get the right size. It is a standard fare from the airport. To the general port area it costs $35CAD.

Our hotel (Westin Bayshore), had taxis waiting outside of it the morning we were going to port, so no troubles there either.

The rest of the time we either walked or took public transit.

For wandering around downtown Vancouver itself we just walk. Airport to downtown I'd use a cab. Going out of downtown I'd do whatever seemed appropriate for that activity. Hotel to port I would walk or take a cab. Cabs in Vancouver are plentiful, easy, cheap-ish, and clean.

Vancouver's public transit is very efficient. We took a free bus to the Capilano Bridge.

When we had luggage to/from the hotel we took a cab.

Vancouver is an incredibly pedestrian/public transit friendly city. Our hotel even had bikes we could have used. The hop-on, hop-off shuttles are a really good option for a day in Stanley Park (that place is pretty big). We took the the Sky Train out to Queen Elizabeth Park and to VanDusen Botanical Gardens. We also took it from our hotel to the airport when we left, which saved compared to the taxi fare.

We loved Vancouver -- now one of my favorite cities. We hope to return someday. Have a great time!

Thank you all for your replies!!!

I just saw an article about where Once Upon a Time is being filmed. Somewhere in BC. Hoping it's nearby!!!

I love credit cards...
  • Discover is not very popular in Vancouver
  • American Express is accepted, but it can be difficult at times to
  • Visa and MasterCard is most widely accepted.

The fictional town of Storybrooke is actually Steveson in Richmond, which is about 30-45 minutes from downtown Vancouver.

My wife wants to spend an extra day in Vancouver upon debarkation. What should we see/eat/do?

What about Grouse and Capilano? Free shuttles are waiting when you debark after breakfast at the cruise terminal.

Have you selected a hotel?

Get a Japadog -- they have food trucks and locations throughout Vancouver. You should try them at least once -- great experience. We loved Stanley Park, and the Chinese Gardens.

Is there a place to store your luggage if you are checking into a hotel later in the day?

At the hotel. They should take your luggage no matter what time your room is ready! We have often checked in and dropped our luggage off in the morning and then gone out for the day and checked into our room later.

Which hotel are you staying at? If it's an adjacent cruise ship hotel.... I hear they will store it for you. Otherwise for $40 (USD$30) CDS will transfer your luggage to your hotel in the late afternoon while you maximize your sightseeing time.

We are staying at a hotel downtown.
