getting a height measure for a 4 year old

Consider Dr. Scholls inserts in the shoes. It puts him a 1/4" to 1/2" higher inside his shoes.

Lol that is my dh exactly...I will be the one taking DS on all The rides (if he grows :) ) while dh stays with DD5 who is certainly tall enough to ride ALL the rides but she's like DH and doesn't like heights...lol

Atleast I'm not the only one with a chicken DH!! :rotfl::rotfl: My DFIL in excited to ride the rides with my DD and I. While my DH will sit out with my DMIL. You don't sit out rides at WDW, it's just not natural!!

Also the measuring sticks are not consistent. My son was able to ride Primeval Whirl multiple times across 2 days (48 inch) but never made the cut for RnR (also 48 inches).

Same issue here. My youngest is a touch over 38 in and we will be at WDW in July. All he keeps talking about is being able to ride splash mtn this trip.

We keep using it as a "make sure to eat well and you'll grow" ploy to get him to eat better at dinner :)

I hope it doesn't backfire :)

I remember seeing one poor kid who was maybe a half inch shy of reaching the measuring bar. The CM kept saying no and the dad kept encouraging the kid to stand up straighter.

Finally, the dad put his hands on both sides of the kids head and raised him up until his head hit the bar.

The CM let him thru.

Now I'm not suggesting you abuse your kid or that you even utilize this strategy, I'm simply offering it because I was surprised at the time that someone would actually go that far. And that the CM let them thru.

I had great success with the "Disney Stick" - aside from it's motivational value, because it looked like what he was going to be encountering at the parks, it prepared him for standing up as tall as possible. He would eagerly run up to the bar to be measured and stand as straight and tall as possible.

My niece who was just about 48 inches was allowed to ride RnR on her first trip to DHS. They returned two days later in their trip and was denied. Even after pleading and stating she rode it two days earlier, she was still denied. After further thought, my sister-in-law realized that on the first day, my niece had worn some boots that had a larger sole. Not obnoxiously big but obviously bigger than the flat sole tennis shoes she wore on day two.

When you are right on the line, it can also depend on the particular person judging and the angle they look from. Using the same measuring bar at a local waterpark, five and a half year old DD was considered below 42 in. one day and above 42 in. the very next day. She was sure it was because she'd had such a good dinner the night before. :rotfl2: We definitely use that as a motivator for better eating. Poor older DD was denied access to an inflatable obstacle course because the new teenager on duty decided she was under 48 inches, even though she had just beaten her older brother through the course.

It would be nice if WDW could also have height wristbands, so there's no disappointment in line, but I guess some cheaters had to ruin it for the rest of us who follow the rules, even when we have tiny-for-their-age children :confused3 I am all for standing tall and wearing shoes with soles, however. A CM also let one of our children ride Barnstormer when she was clearly an inch too short, by telling her to stretch.

That would be a great idea! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 They could have something right inside the gate, have a couple CMs operating it so no one can "cheat" the system and have the kids wear wrist bands! I'm sure they would love it anyways if they made them WDW festive, which is a given!!

Parents will still cheap the system. Its been reported that they tried this at Disneyland. I've even seen a patent application for a measuring device Disney has using lasers.

The parents cheated by cutting off the band from the taller kid and putting it on the smaller kid using tools brought in just for this purpose.

Others have come up with other more complicated methods using photo ids or thinking magic bands would somehow solve problem but the simplest way is to just measure the kid at the ride. Also before it comes up, I've been told hand stamps can also be transferred.

It would really be nice if they could link the information to the magicbands somehow. Get the child measured at the beginning of the trip, and then CM's could scan their magic bands to see if they reach the height requirement. I'm sure someone could find a way around that, but I don't know what it would be. Especially if they had to swipe their finger like they do at the front gate. You couldn't swap bands between kids that way.

I agree....magic bands and finger scan...that would be great

Yes...he's prepared that he may not be tall enough...but he's really itching to get on space mountain especially...lol

Again...I understand why Disney does it but I really hope he doesn't pass the first and fail the second measurement that would be really sad and disappointing :(
Grow baby grow so I don't have to put lifts in his shoes ;) (seinfeld reference)

Space Mountain was the worse. GD was 43 3/4
she stood tall and her head touched the pole BUT the lady CM doing the measuring took a piece of paper and ran it through then said sorry
As long as that paper goes through you are too short.

So do please prepare your child--just in case.

The issue is that they don't use the finger scan for kids 9 and under so it would be very easy to switch bands.

Taller kid wears smaller kid's band and then they switch, you then go back with the taller kid with another CM working and then get that kid scanned.

Ahhh, feels like the good ol' days reading a simple thread like this. ;)

Magic Bands Still sneaked in though.

Hey now....it may be part of the solution ;)

Not that it matters because it will never be in place by our march trip...phhoooy ;)

People don't want to line up for FP+ but they want to line up for height measuring?? LOL

What is easiest is getting measured for 2 secs at each ride. My nearly 50" child still gets the occasional random height check. It's not an issue to stop for a second to have them look.

I'm not worrying about having to get checked twice...i worry about being checked by 2 different CM's and the 1 in the front says he's 44 inches and the one after our hour long wait (becuase we already used our fp+ for the day ;) ) says he's not so that just means I wasted and hour in line and then have an upset/sad 4 year old....if i could have gotten him "officially measured' then it would be official from the beginning whether we should have waited in line at all....hope that makes sense...lol

Putting on my lawyer's cap, I would imagine that two measures done by two separate CMs is something a lawyer came up with because it serves as a Q&A check, so that the safety of their youngest, smallest guests aren't being left to just one person's judgment. This ensures maximum safety to the guests by minimizing possibility of injuries, and thus minimizes risk to the company. This isn't about maximizing guest satisfaction, it's about maximizing guest safety.
