Gettin Tossed from the Pool

Just wondering from DVC members:

Is the pool hopping privilege something that matters to you? If you exclude SAB and the pools at AKL/AKV, what pools are really worth the trouble? If you're staying at a DVC property on points, you already have a nice pool with a slide. What are the advantages, if any, to pool hopping? I always see this touted on the pool-hopping threads as a right DVC members have that no one else does. But, is it a right that any DVC member actually uses or thinks has value?

I'm not a DVC member, so just wondering. It's not something that would weigh in my decision to buy DVC or not.

We hardly use the pool, so the pool hopping is not a big deal.

I usually stay at the poly and since we never seem to be able to find a place to sit at the pool on the lagoon we usually go to the quiet pool. When we want to be at the Volcano pool we sit on the beach. We have stayed there many times and I have never seen anyone asked to see an ID. I guess they could have asked us since we usually walk up from the beach.

No 2 pools are the same.
Where can you sit on a beach and look at the Magic Kingdom?
Where you can go to a pool that has a sand bottom and huge Pirate slide?
Where can you go to a pool and look at Giraffes and other exoctic wildlife?
Where can you go to a pool that has a giant Aztec Pyramid at one end?

That's just off the top of my head. Many Disney pools are very unique plus somes proximity to the differnt parks and thus Pool Hoping was born!

Heck I know people who live in Florida, have a pool and still go to the Disney pools.

We're DVC owners and have never pool hopped nor would want to. I've noticed quite a few cm's asking for id in the last couple of years. Seen quite a few people kicked out, too.

Well, I most certainly wouldn't "pool-hop" if it wasn't allowed...and it never even crossed my mind until I read this thread...

...However, it would be nice if perhaps you were given a ticket or something for one "complimentary" pool hop during your stay. Although would be "NICE" to try another resort's pool/area, I would use it as more of an opportunity to see it as a potential bounce-back ..... "Hey, I really like this - let's book here next time" or "Wow - I'd love to do another trip if I could stay HERE!"

There just might be something in the resort/pool area/CM's that might make me make a booking at a Deluxe or Villa instead of a moderate or bring me back in the future for an unplanned trip....who knows? :beach:

Anyone can go look at the resort pool area. You don't need to get in the water to decide if you are interested in the resort or not.We looked at SAB while eating over there years before we we stayed there(we didn't swim) and we knew it appealed to us.Pool water is pool water.

Oh, well at least you can look.... - I was under the impression from another poster that they were ID checking to get where the pool area is...and people from other resorts weren't allowed in the area at all...

A good look around and getting a chance to see how other guests were enjoying everything would be good enough for me....:thumbsup2 (and maybe talk to a few for their perspective on the resort and facilities?)

We've done it once - its really more of a pain in the neck than its worth. I expect it will go away - DVC has gotten too big, there are too many members and too few pools worth hopping to. The pools that are attractive hop locations are easily overcrowded (BW, Poly). If it does go away, many of the members who never used it will scream - its a privilege a lot of members see as being special. Some members who used it will definitely feel a loss. Others won't care.

As someone who stays at a hoppable pool (BW) - I wish it were done with. I don't like not getting a pool chair because of people not staying at the BW any more than anyone else does - but the BW pool is the one that gets used by members (and by crashing non-members) for a mid day break because its convinence to DHS and Epcot.

Just want to note when we pool hop we use the pool not the chairs what is the point of going somewhere to sit on an uncomfortable chair.

I hope they do away with the pool hopping perk too and I say that as an aspiring DVC owner. If they keep adding units, it just isn't fair to those staying at the resorts to compete with the additional influx.

Did someone say that Disney was fair ??? :confused3

My family has never used our "pool-hopping privilege" yet. We tend to stay at BCV & AKV and we love those pools. We always have our own vehicle at WDW, yet pool hopping would still seem like a lot of trouble to pack up & go somewhere else.

However, we check in at BCV this weekend (see my ticker below )& have some DVC friends that will be staying at the Poly for two nites before they move over to BCV. We may pool hop over to the Poly while they're there just to see what all the fuss is about. I doubt it though.

**Btw, the pool-hopping privilege had no influence on our decision to buy into DVC.

OMG I remeber staying at the POLY when I was younger when my parents used to take me to WDW, and just our last trip in April we went to Breakfast at O'hanna's after breakfast I wanted to walk around a little so we walked to the pool I could not believe my eyes that pool was the smallest pool I have ever seen at a resort, between the zero entry and the slide its just so small I can't imagine how packed it would be in the middle of the summer.

Nope, no one said it. But I am not a cynic and think even huge corporations occasionally do something right, just, fair, whatever word you'd like to use so I stand by my *opinion*.
