Get over it. It’s just a bear-shaped Starbucks cup.

There have been things I thought were cute and would like to have, but a bear cup is not one and no way will I stand in line or throw fists for one (or anything else really).

Nothing new, really. People have been acting like this for a while now, except social media enhances the awareness of it. Remember Cabbage Patch Kids? Or any "hot" Christmas toy, really.

Starbucks knows what they're doing when they do stuff like this. The whole "Oh golly gee, we didn't know how popular they'd be so we only made enough to give two or three to each store even though we've been making viral videos hyping them up for a month." is nonsense. They do it on purpose to create false scarcity just to get themselves in the headlines. So now when they make more, even more people rush to the store to buy one. Eventually, it will also result in a flooding of the market with a million different teddy bear tumbler knockoffs and then suddenly nobody will want one anymore. A couple of years ago it was the Stanley Valentine's cup at Target/Starbucks. Now Stanleys and Stanley knockoffs are everywhere and nobody gives a hoot.

And those knockoffs are another reason why I never buy Disney branded stuff outside of a Disney park, owned hotel, store or cruise…

My niece works at Starbucks, her store only got 2 of the bear cups initially and the staff were fighting over who got one, they never made it to the shelves. Walmart has a dupe out already all it’s missing is the Starbucks logo. The FOMO is what drives these things.

Yep, they made movies 30 years ago about the insane competition of people trying to get Christmas toys.

Everyone has their "thing." I would not stand in line for the cup, or a Taylor Swift crewneck sweatshirt, or even a new iPhone. I think standing in the line in part of the fun for people. There was a Trader Joe's bag a while back that people stood in line for. I don't dislike any of the things I mentioned, I am just not prepared to line up for them.

Yeah this one became a status symbol in the UK from what I have read. There are no Trader Joes in the UK, but you see lots of these bags around. Social Media trend.

Yeah there has always been this sort of think - Furby, Cabbage patch, beanie babies, Tickle me me Elmo etc...
The difference is those things were typically crazy at the holidays not year round.

For example the Stanley cup - people needed one in each color to match their outfits.
People flipped out and had to get them all like they are Pokémon.
I don't get it but its your money and time waste it however you like.
Now you cant give away a Stanley.
That said Stanley does make a nice product - I've had my thermos since the early 90s.
When I need a new travel mug I might buy a Stanley - depends on what is the best value at the time.

Basically every six months there is another social media trend everyone jumps on and acts the fool for so they can post it on line.

Oh and as for the popcorn buckets that really don't hold any popcorn - WHY???

I didn’t know this existed. The only way I’d attempt to get something like this is if it was going to be a gift. I’m trying to get stuff out of my house and not bring anything in - LOL!

I don't get why they don't just make these fancy popcorn buckets as plastic statues/figures and be done with it. They're not good for popcorn and people just buy them to display them on the shelf anyway. Eliminate the trap doors and ugly handle and just be done with it. It would look better for display.

With the world the way it is, what the hell, let people take joy in whatever floats their boat. There is nothing about the concept (including the Figment Popcorn Bucket) that I would even cross the street to get if it were free, but I'm sure I do a lot of things that makes other pause and wonder if I still have a grasp on sanity. So just be ourselves and let others do the same.
