Get in Shape & Lose Weight for August 2014 Group

I'm envious of those that can work out to DVDs at home. I'd have to rearrange the furniture every time and that doesn't seem worth it to me. (Sounds like a lame excuse, now that I've put it out there :rotfl2:)

Hi I just found this thread and wanted to say HI. I need to lose more weight then I would like but it is a need to stay healthy. I am 5'2" and have the apple shape...green apple as I only like those...:lmao:

I have a treadclimber at home which when I use it is GREAT!!! it is the getting my boby parts in gear to use it. I have started again for the last week of getting on it and my emcumbent (sp) bike for at least 30 mins each and then some crunches and other floor work. I can not run even on a good day as I have always walked faster but also due to a weak left hip, leg and planter facistis in both feet. I am keeping track of what I do which I know helps and watch Netflix so the time goes by faster.

My biggest obstacle is staying on track and being accountable. My DH works out more due to his job (part of the regime being in the military) so I find him and I are on so different wave lengths and he does encourage me but leaves it up to me to do it when I want..Love him but not very helpful in my opinnion

AnyWoo I am glad I found this thread and look forward to getting to know you all

Cheers

That is awesome!

I tried some upper body strength exercises tonight. One I did not ynderstand- the dead lift. Also, one where you lay upper back over a bench .....and tricep dips are so hard. Could not do them.

Welcome! I'll add you to the list later today. Staying on track and being accountable are big issues for me as well. This thread definitely helps with that.

I could use some help if anyone has any thoughts. As you know, I haven't done any strength/abdominal work for about 5-6 weeks now. I think I'm ready to start up again, but I definitely still have scar tissue from the 4 incisions that are still healing. The one that goes down from my belly button is the worst; it's almost 2 inches long. Any suggestions how to start working on my core strength? I feel flabby and it's hard to hold my stomach in. Crunches kind of hurt but are doable if I go slow. Planks are out of the question. Doctor gives no real specifics saying work up and listen to my body. Any help would be appreciated. :scratchin

ETA: OK, out of curiosity I just officially measured and it is indeed 2 inches. :eek

Morning Wanted to check in to say I have lost 3 lbs in as many days..:cool1: Have worked out twice this week so far and proably again tomorrow evening. Not into over doing it as I know I will hurt myself.
Seeing I am at work at 630am:crazy2: due to DH needing to be there(we work in same building but different areas) but I don't actually have to start til 7am I am thinking of going for a walk around my building which is better then sitting at my computer surfing :lmao:

One of my problems is starying motivated, so how do you stay or get motivated????

Losing 3 pounds in 3 days would motivate me!!! Seriously, though, it is very tough to stay motivated, but I focus on the overall "healthier me" vision. While losing weight is a big part of my goal, I want to be healthier so I can be here for my kids and my DH. And I don't let setbacks get me down as much as I used to, because it's part of a long-term plan, not just a diet for my August vacation.

Countdown: 12 Weeks until August 1st! (eek!!)

I don't think motivation comes down to one thing. Right now, the trip is definitely keeping me focused. Beyond that is the bigger picture. I have slowly been feeling worse and worse over the last 5 years; so gradual that it took a while for me to notice. Then I had tendinitis in my elbow, a knee injury, high blood pressure.. and my latest, surgery to remove my gallbladder. If that's not a wake up call, I don't know what is. I want to feel better and be healthier and be around for my family for a long time. Then there's the motivation of seeing my weight on the scale, having my clothes fit better, having people ask me if I've lost weight.. I'm not perfect and feel frustrated often, but I stick with it because I would be too depressed if I admitted that I've given up.

This is it! Today is the day! My first 5k that I will be running at 10am. Starting to get a little nervous and it's raining out. Hopefully both will stop for race start. :)

:thumbsup2 Can't wait to hear how it went!

I'm back! I finished with a time of 35:12. Not bad for my very first time out. :)
