Hey all,
As I have told my mother, I gots me a delemia :confused3
I want to do something fun for my 25th birthday, the difficult part is my birthday is mid august. Cruises are expensive and frought with hurricanes, Other tropical getaways are even more expensive, and I'll be going back to college the end of august. So I am thinking of making my annual disney trek for my birthday instead of October like I did last year. The new problem then becomes I have no one to go with. My parents went with me last october and wouldn't want to go again, My best friend and usual travel buddy just started a new job an doesn't have vacation time until September, My sister is paying off her own college loans along with a morgage so she doesn't have money to go further than Iowa, and last I'm not sure I want to go alone as hotels and such can be more expensive if there is only one person in the room. Any suggestions?

Go alone! Think of the positives

No-one to point out that you 4th Mickey bar of the day and its only 10.30
You can go on the same ride over and over again
No-one to take your photo on IASW and then blackmail you with it
No-one to take your photo,period!
If you want to go to Magic Kingdom 4 days running that up to you.
No having to go back for a rest cos your companions "really really tired"
No-one eating food off your plate cos it looks better than theirs.
You can get to the front quicker on some rides-single riders are much sought after

I agree! Go alone. The only cost that increases is the cost of your accommodations. You can always stay offsite at a budget hotel if onsite resorts are too costly. Going alone gives you so much freedom to see WDW the way you would like to do it instead of polling all your companions to find out who wants to do what and when they want to do it.

Go for it on your own! I LOVEed travelling solo. In fact I still do with my DD (at least no other adults). Other than not splitting the cost of the room, everything else will cost you the same. Go of a value resort and have a great time!!

I have been in this position a few times..luckily I have always convinced someone to go with me. Everyone I know is tired of Disneyworld..can you believe it??? Not me I could go anytime. I am sure at some point the time will come I will have to go alone. So I will since I have heard so many positive things from solo travelers

I say, if you dont mind traveling solo, go it alone. Others have posted some positive aspects of solo travel, but here is another.

You say you are planning to go in August? Well, as you may know, Disney is now giving away free dining plans to those who are staying on Disney grounds with a MYW pass. Sure, going alone will increase room costs, but at the same time, if you stay in a Disney resort, your food for the whole trip is paid for, so the costs balance out.

Yes, there are many wonderful aspects of solo travel.....already mentioned. But what I think is even better, is taking someone (preferably a child) who has never been before. If you have a niece, cousin, best friend's sister, etc...who hasn't had the opportunity to go to Disney, think of how happy you could make them! Financially, it would be the same as going by yourself as far as accomodations are concerned. As far as tickets and other expenses, perhaps you could communicate to others (discreeetly) what you have in mind, and see who else might be able to contribute. Seeing Disney through someone else's eyes for the first time is worth the extra effort IMHO.

Go alone. I've been happily married for almost 25 years and everytime I go solo (which isn't that often anymore but that's OK - husband loves Disney World), it's so mind opening. No one looks at you like you have two heads or anything. Yes, you won't have anyone to split the resort charge with but, hey, you're at Disney World! And you only turn 25 years old once. Do what you want to do.

im 19 (well almost 19 in one month) and im going solo in june. nobody wanted to come and my family went last year. so i figure if i really want to go im not going to sit and wait for someone to come im gonna do it while i can, ive got the money so why not go and enjoy myself since thats what i really want to do. dont hold back just because someone doesnt want to go

i love solo--just did it once but will definitely do again and again :cool1:
go over to the solo boards and see if anyone else is planning the same time. maybe they will be willing to meet you for a while for some rides, meals, etc. other than that, enjoy your alone time --you'll be alone but never lonely. have a wonderful time whatever you decide and happy birthday :wizard:
