Does anyone know if we can stop in at the Biergarten Restaurant for a beer and the entertainment. Do I need a reservation if we are not eating ? Can I make a ressie just for drinks?

No you can't. It is a buffet restaurant and no bar inside. There is a place to buy a beer outside in the courtyard but not in the restaurant.

If you want to experience the entertainment and the Octoberfest enviroment you need to be eating. It is a TS buffet restauarant. You would be charged for the full buffet.

Yep, you have to be eating. I have found, however, that you can usually get in without reservations fairly easily... My husband and I do it all the time!
