Geriatric MM Warriors!

Hi, Jocelyn! I'm so glad you are here! I think there's an option to check 'remember me' at the log in? Something I did allows me to save this in my favorites and I've only been asked to log in one more time since then. This is me excited to see you!:banana::banana:

Thanks for the welcome. After the 3rd time I was good to go, so no more problems.

Lots of posts already this AM and I was up fairly early!!

Are you referring to the green bean casserole with the mushroom soup? You could make your own soup with mushrooms and cream and put some toasted almonds instead of fried onion rings. I have used mushrooms and low fat sour cream in place of the soup in some other recipes I have tweaked. It comes out fine.

I love Kenny G, too. He was here several years ago and put a concert on outside under the stars - really great.

Gena - glad to see you. I can only image the grief you are going through watching your dad.

Kathy - hope your day was not too bad.

On to reading the rest of the posts!

Today something happened that scared me a little. I was waiting in the car for a while so I put my seat back a little and was resting with all the windows down. Something made me look up and behind me and there was a man beside a car about 10-15 feet away staring at me. I gave him a strong look back and he looked like he got caught doing something and he got in his car. I closed the windows up, made sure the locks where on and put on the air. He drove away about two minutes after I was sitting up with the car closed. I think he was some kind of creep. I'm not sure why it was the way he was looking and the reaction. I was thinking it wasn't going to bother me but it still is. There's so much more crime here than there was in northern maine. It was in a nursing home parking lot during the day though so I thought it was a safe place. I know that even fat women can be attacked because it isn't about looks. Anyway, I'm not sure why I'm telling all of you except it's still bothering me.

maybe he thought if you were asleep he'd grab your purse. its so sad we can't be totally relaxed anywhere---maybe he was a little 'off'?? be careful Nell:hug:

Lisa, my friend had to go to physical therapy for the same problem and they had her do Kegel exercises using a band to make sure she was doing them correctly. It helped tremendously! I'm not sure if it would help you but it's worth a shot.

Beverly, thank you for setting up another thread and being willing to move recipes. It's appreciated!

Kathy, my guess after learning more about Met B is that if your feeling famished then the stress probably pushed your insulin levels up. I'd eat more today of legal foods and be careful to space the 5x5's. If you have the stuff in the house, why not make up some turkey or ham rolls with cheese, deviled eggs etc. If you eat enough it will help bring your physical stress down. Being on high alert raises all those fight or flight hormones.

If your stuffed and having trouble sleeping, benadryl might work better without having the shakes the next day. It's up to you of course. If the shakes are really bothering you Kathy, you could try it. Benadryl is also used by doctors to reduce anxiety without using an addictive drug.

Natalie, that's actually a nice thought that he might have been after my purse (as weird as that sounds ) My creep radar went off. I'm going to be a lot more careful and aware. I got too used to northern maine. I grew up in a medium size city with a lot of crime, so I actually should know better.

I'm actually famished today. Still feeling jittery though. Can't shake that one. Not even drinking caffeine today. Hopefully it's just stuff left over stuff from yesterday.
Feeling really tired today from the my nyquil last night. Knew I should have only taken 1 pill instead of 2. I'll take a nap this afternoon, and hopefully not fall asleep during the concert tonight.
Having steaks and salad tonight. Not sure what else. I have frozen veges in the freezer, so probably cook one of those up too.
Just had my chocolate 5x5. It is pure heaven. I am not too big on dark chocolate, but I'll take it any way I can. Wish we could have milk chocolate instead. Maybe I'll get the dry milk today to try the low carb milk. Then I can make my hot chocolate with it. I'll have to double check the carbs on it.
Ok, off to get my steaks.
Lisa, have fun on your walk.

Sorry you are still feeling bad. 2 pills might have been a bit much, especially if there is sugar in them. When eating lower carb like we are doing, your system really re-acts to a lot of pure sugar and not in a pleasant manner!!

I haven't tried this as I am not in the mood for hot chocolate here LOL, but I know people who heat up the Atkins shakes. You could start with the vanilla one and add choc flavor - Walden's is great for this, or cocoa and sweetener, or start with a choc shake, but they might be more than one carb. The unsweetened, plain almond milk is only one carb, too. I used that last night instead of cream in a recipe, as I was out of my cream, and it was fine. It might be a 5x5 though by the time you get done with it!! Good Luck!

I make a green bean cassarole, but it's a dinner cassarole not the kind that goes with thanksgiving. Mine is an italian sausage with garlic, herbs and parm. cheese in green beans meal.

You have to actively subscribe to this loop. In Low carb friends it was set to automatically subscribe you. at the top of the page on the right hand side it says thread tools with an arrow. If you click on that there's a drop down menu and you can hit subscribe to the thread. It's easier to find after that.

The casserole sounds really good - do you have portions or do you just add like I do??

Thanks, I am now subscribed!

Bev, thanks again for the threads. This is a huge forum that I would never have explored. I now see where you get all your info on Disney!!

Lisa--which Julia bread do you buy? I was thinking about trying theirs. Has anyone made the recipe for the low carb bread that was posted not too long ago? It'll be cheaper to make my own, as long as its tasty:snooty:(that one is snooty!!)

Jocelyn, do you think the almond milk would work to cream coffee? I like my coffee light, and I've been having an argument with the half and half. :)

I bought the one carb Julian bread. It's wonderful and freezes well. I haven't tried making any of my own yet. We really, really like the Alvarado Bakery flax bread for Step 2.

Nell: Thanks for the tip. I have urinary frequency, but not lack of control. We are all like this to some degree in our family, but I think I am the worst. I have a permanent excuse from jury duty because of how often I have to go to the bathroom:rotfl2:

You know, I'm thinking ahead to Thanksgiving because my parents are coming and I'm not thinking of foods that are bad for us at all. It's weird. There are so many legal options and ways to lower the carb impact. I am going to have a planned cheat, but not one that makes me miserable sick.

Some of the things I'm thinking of doing are making any pie with Erythritol. It doesn't cause gastric issues (we'll leave it at that) like xylitol. I am adjusted to xylitol so it doesn't affect me like that, but my family won't be. And I don't have to make fruit pies because that will be too many sugars together. I'm thinking more of pudding pie. I'm not afraid of making pumpkin, squashes, sweet potatoes. I do plan on going over my carb allotment, but these things won't have such an impact as to make me ill. Turkey of course is a free food. I'm going to make mashed mock potatoes or mock potato soup/ or broccoli soup. In other words, all the leftovers can be packaged up and put in the freezer and I'll actually be able to use them! In the right proportions, they will be on plan. I think it's going to make it a lot easier. And since I take so much more care with using whole, non processed foods on this way of eating, the meal will probably be a lot better quality. I won't be cheating and dumping cranberry sauce or apple sauce from a jar. :)

That are some of my thoughts. I cannot remember a holiday when I wasn't feeling sick, even as a child. The thought of Easter to this day makes me feel nauseated. I feel so free now. Quality, not quantity! And I actually have the power to make this choice now instead of my body dictating me to use more, more, more!

Well, it's good you don't have the control problem. My mom had five children, the last two being twins. She's older than you but at this point she has no control. Luckily she can have a sense of humor about it though.

what are the carbs in that one? I've had the California bread which was good

Ok - Time to catch up.

Nell - sorry to hear about your scare yesterday. I am glad that you had a sixth sense about it. A lot of time I will stay in the car when DH goes in somewhere, but I always leave the windows up. Unfortunately in this day and age we can't be too careful. Lisa and Barb - scary stories too.

Gena - so sorry to hear about your dad. I have always felt that widowers don't do nearly as well as widows. Men may be big and strong in some ways, but I think women are stronger emotionally (sorry Tom).

Cindy - Yea! You found us.

Robin - I will put up a recipe thread. I will go back to LCF and find any recipes that belong to "us" and move them over. I won't touch the proprietary info of the others though. A 12 hour day - YUCK. Today we have sun for the first time in over a week. I will have to get outside for awhile and soak it up.

Jocelyn - once again, apologies.

Natalie - I think I will have to use this one today: :laundy:, however I did my Zumba this a.m., so I get this one also :yay:, but this looks more like Zumba  (the instructors version, not mine).

Lisa - sorry your walking route doesn't include more pitstops.

For those who are having trouble getting back on here, at the top of the home page, on the right hand side you can log in. Next to your name there is a box to check that says "remember me." If you do this, it should keep you logged in (unless you have set your computer to automatically delete all cookies every time you log off). If you have your cookies being deleted, then you will have to log in every time. Sorry.

I hope I didn't miss anyone. I love to have you all over here.

Maybe we should contemplate a one year "reunion" somewhere, so we can all get together.

With Lisa's help. So busy, just had to peek in and say Hi. Between work being crazy and having to clean a 5k square foot house, I'm tired as heck!!! And a little crabby. Love the Smilies. here's me right now...:surfweb:

Good afternoon everyone! So glad to see you all here. I am finally feeling better.
Nell, I think you may have hit the head on the nail (is there an icon for that? LOL). If I get myself all worked up, that will increase the insulin and taking the nyquil just over did it. I was going to take my BS this morning, and forgot. I did yesterday and it was 111 after an 8 hour fast. I don't have sugar problems, but it does run in my family pretty bad, so I keep an eye on it.
Went and got our steaks and I got some mild beef sticks with cheese. The slaughter house makes them right there. They are sooo good, and legal! So, I ate one and I'm feeling better now. Still really thirsty, but that could be from the dayquil and nitequil. I haven't had any today, so hopefully this helps. Tutu would be so proud of all the water I'm drinking.
Ok, new problem. I put my pants on, and they are getting too big already. These are the 14's I just got a little more than a week ago. Only wore them 1 other time!! Thank goodness I got them at Penny's on sale dirt cheap!:woohoo:
I haven't taken my measurements since I did them I think it was the beginning of Oct. I didn't take them when I started in Sept. But my clothes are getting smaller. Now when I look down I see my chest and not belly!!
Ok, going to check out the recipes. Thanks again Bev for taking such good care of us. Can't be depressed here with all the great Disney stuff!! Thanks a million. Got to go find me a Tigger!

what are the carbs in that one? I've had the California bread which was good

The Flax one is 6 net carbs per slice so you can have a sandwich! The Califonria bread is I think 12 per slice and I use it for toast with pb or eggs, for instance, so I keep them both on hand.

Helloooooo Warriors! Work is making me want to quit today! LOL, oh well, its a paycheck right!?

Hi Gena - so sorry your Dad is having trouble, I know you hear all the time about one spouse losing the will and spirit to live after the other passes. Im with you on the fats too...sometimes its hard to fit in enough veggies, especially since I have to grab and go so much...not too many veggies you can do that with!! I have some celery and cream cheese with me today, but celery barely qualifies as a veggie i think!!

Hey Kate - nice of you to join us once in awhile! busy girl you are!

Lisa - Cindy is already here...she posted earlier! Hope the others get here soon...

Bev - you are so right about the phone numbers, Im removing mine!! Thanks for doing the recipe thread and GO YOU for doing your zumba!!

All these smilies are so awesome...cracks me up every time I read your posts!

Kathy - will you be on step 2 by Thanksgiving? You can have 1/2 sweet potato on step 2...thats kinda thanksgivingy!!
OMG PUMPKIN ROLL is like my ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!

Trans Siberian Orchestra totally ROCKS - I have everything they ever recorded and have seen them several times...totally AMAZING:woohoo:
