Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

I was checking back in before I left work to find that only Kathy had come to visit me!

I will try to check back in tonight.

For those of you in the snow belt, stay safe!

Good Afternoon Everyone

It is quiet here today.

Nell - sounds as if you are doing better - you are brave to go back to school. I'm not sure I would want to study all the time again!!

Beverly - I didn't get around to checking the cookie setting, but things seem to be working the last 2 days so maybe the site has fixed the problem.

Another gloomy day here, but better than the snow a lot of people are still having.

We were supposed to go visit my cousin and their children today, but they are all sick so we will not be able to see them. Everyone is disappointed. The 3 children are like our grandchildren. Hopefully everyone will be well the next time we are in CA. They have almost 4 year old twins that are adorable as well as an older son.

I had cooked 8 pounds of ribs to take for them to put on the bar-b-que. Since that is not happening we are having the people we were to take to dinner tomorrow in for dinner here instead!!! The best laid plans............

So looking forward to tomorrow and meeting Lisa. Too bad we are not all getting together.

Kathy - I hope all of the new meds help you. You have been through so much lately.

Diane - do we dare ask about the job? I fail to see where the economy is improving even though some think so!

I will not have my computer with me starting on Saturday until the latter part of March. I am not ignoring all of you - just will not be reading the posts or responding. I'll have a lot of catching up to do!!

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:

Jocelyn: I should have come down a day early and had ribs, LOL! I'm starving! Sooooo sorry your family members have been ill. Can't wait til tomorrow! My car is all gassed up and ready to go!:yay::woohoo::banana:

Robin is in trouble for not giving us the details!!!!:rotfl::rotfl2: Robin, I've been married for 33 years! Give me some stories! LOL!

Jocelyn - I haven't heard anything yet about the job. If it is going to follow the same timeline as last time I should hear by Friday about an interview date. But I already interviewed in November and I thought it went so well. When I got the phone message that I didn't get the job the head of HR said if I wanted feedback she would be glad to supply it. I emailed her and this is what she said: "Hi Diane -

If it's any consolation, you were their second choice out of the five people interviewed. The deciding factor had nothing to do with how you interviewed, but rather that the person selected has a great deal of corporate experience and that's what gave her the advantage. It wasn't an easy decision for Joanne, Otis and Joel.

I will definitely retain your resume and should another opening becomes available I will call you personally so that you can apply -- of course, if you're available and interested at that time.

Take care and thank you again for taking time to meet with us."

When I got the job alert from indeed.com I was surprised that the job was open again. I sent her an email saying I was still interested and available and could I apply again. She responded "Sure. Thanks for letting me know." I can understand her not remembering about me, but not the other 3 people in the dept. that I interviewed with. It's only been 3 months. I was excited that I was going to get the job easily, but now I'm not so sure. Something isn't right - why wouldn't they just say; 'Let's call that other woman who we interviewed and see if she's still available.' Miracles happen and I'm trying to keep positive. I want that job so badly, but maybe it isn't meant to be. As soon as I hear either way I'll let you guys know.

Hi everyone!! I hope all is well with you all. Feeling really good so far this morning. Fell asleep around 8:30 this morning, and woke up around 5. Laid around in bed for a bit and woke up slowly. I hope my continues this well.

Jocelyn and Lisa, have fun today!! I will be thinking of you both having fun and laughing. BE GOOD!! LOL

Diane, still praying for that job for you. That would be great to get it. God's will I guess. Be careful in the snow. I forget, are you in NJ or NY? I am thinking NJ.

Robin, if you're reading, hope you get the computer fixed soon!! Miss you and waiting to hear all about the pistol packin preacher!! I just saw it quick on FB yesterday.

Bev, hope you're being careful in the snow (I think you got some). I am soooo ready for spring!! Finally got most of our cars dug out and we are getting more!!

Well, off to hit the shower. Asking for a prayer as Mike has to go to Greensburg today to do some kind of testing for the Heavy Equipments Operators job he applied for. It would be great if he could get into there. It would have some travel, but not too bad. It would be an answer to our prayers.

I'll catch up with everyone later. Also, does anyone run Windows 7? Just wondering how you like it if you do. I now remember why I hated Vista!! Runs about snails pace on the computer with start up and such.
Ok, later everyone!!

Jocelyn - sorry you weren't able to visit with family, but you don't want to take the chance of getting sick!

We'll miss you. I can't believe you'll be gone for almost a month! Think about us and we'll be thinking about you.
Jocelyn - I haven't heard anything yet about the job. If it is going to follow the same timeline as last time I should hear by Friday about an interview date.
Diane-good luck with the job interview.

Kathy - I'm glad you are feeling better. Luckily we didn't get any snow, and it is supposed to warm up to almost 40 this weekend!:woohoo::woohoo: I'll be praying for Mike today with his testing and job hunting. (so far that is one interview, one testing and two job prayers!).

I do run Windows 7 on my new laptop and I really like it. It seems much faster to boot up than Vista did. I know that if you are planning to upgrade, they suggest a "clean install" if at all possible, not required, but suggested.

I'm at work again today, and if we don't hear from Robin soon, then I think we should start making up stories as to why she isn't visiting us. Could be as easy as she went off MM at dinner and doesn't want to tell us.......or maybe she and the Rev. eloped after dinner! (Maybe now she will come and tell us the truth!)

Geez you guys are a rough crowd! LOL, not being able to post from home really puts a crimp in my posting here, since work has been super busy all month...

In a nutshell, the date went very well, and we are planning to see each other again next week...Jim is 52, widowed 2 years, no kids...graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Masters in Theological Studies...very intelligent, very funny and witty...great conversation, had a great time...spent over 5 hours together...met early in a town about an hour from me, a little farther for him, he knew the town, so we walked around one of the nice little college campuses, sat in the gazebo and chatted, then walked through an Amish/Mennonite furniture store( I love that stuff) where he proceeded to make the poor little amish woman think we were shopping for dining room furniture for our home, ( lol very funny guy) had dinner, sat there for 2 hours talking, then he insisted on Dairy Queen ( OMG ) where I gave in to 3 bites of vanilla ice cream, then made him eat the rest! OK, so are y'all happy now?!!!:rotfl:

Unbelieveably enough, I get home, go online, where I have been cranky about Ken's absences for weeks at a time...even though I know why he is out of touch, it still ticks me off...and there he is, waiting for me on yahoo messenger...I had sent him a rather scathing message, saying I thought he wasnt planning to come back right away and was just stringing me along, and how I didnt appreciate it, etc etc...so it turns out he had FALLEN on the rig and was in the hospital for 10 days! OMG, so now I felt guilty and terrible, but I just said I was so sorry, and he said he was somewhat confused at my message, and that he couldnt wait to get back here to prove to me that he is telling me the truth and all is going to be well...:scared1: I had grumbled about the lack of contact to a friend who is in IT for a nuclear company here, and she told me that he is not b.s. ing me, that China cell phones are on a whole different band that is not compatible with any other country, and that their internet connectivity problems are legendary...so I guess maybe the lack of contact really has been out of his control...

So I am leaving it all in the hands of the Lord! I see no harm in continuing to spend time with Jim once a week, and if Ken gets back in March, then I imagine it will just all sort itself out!

So sorry I havent caught up on posts, so hope you are all well...please e-mail me if something comes up I need to know about! I have managed to download Google Chrome Beta to my home computer, so will attempt to log on from that browser later tonight. I am pulling a ridiculous shift on Saturday as a favor to the big boss, and working from 8am to 11pm!! Someone please kick me and tell me I am NUTS!!!:grouphug:

Hi guys. Just a note on how things are going with Mike. He called around 5:30 and he passed the first half of the test. He is now taking the second half. The first half lasted 2 hours! When he passes the second half (notice I didn't say if? LOL) he then goes for an interview I believe. Our neighbor knows one of the higher ups in the company and Mike's nephew's brother works for them also. I am praying like crazy since I talked to him!!

Robin, sounds as though you had a really nice time. Sounds like a really fun time too!! And a sense of humor. What else do you need? As for Ken, I say just play it by ear. Your gut will tell you what to do. And you need to figure out if Ken would be going out of town a lot with his job (overseas anywhere) or was this just a one time thing. Just throwing it out there.

Well, going to rest a bit. A little tired tonight, but not too bad. I'll catch up later. Hope to see you later Robin!!

Hi, everyone! It was fun to read your posts from today and to hear about Robin's date. I could just imagine it in my mind's eye.

Jocelyn and I had so much fun! She is really beautiful and kind and easy to talk to. We sat at lunch for a long time chatting. We couldn't have ordered up a prettier day! The hills are as green as Ireland now and the fruit trees are blooming. We saw hundreds of daffodils at the winery. It was between 50 and 60 degrees - still 60 when I got home. I saw the cutest twin calves running in for the night with the herd as I was coming home. Then I saw a huge flock of wild turkeys, which I am crazy about for some reason. The male had his tail feathers all spread out so pretty. I stopped and bought my Mom's Mother's Day gift at a boutique we like in a small town. I like to support local merchants. (Sutter Creek, Jocelyn!) All in all, it was the perfect day!

Another hot bath and early night is in order for me, I think, but the knee and ankle did pretty well.:)

Kathy: Sending good thoughts and prayers for Mike's success in the job application!

Diane: Still holding the same for you!!!

Thank you Lisa. He just called and is headed home. Now to just wait and see. They told him there are 500 applicants! :scared1: Nothing a small miracle can't handle. Leaving it up to God now.

Thank you so much Lisa, I can say the same about you and do so look forward to seeing you again the next time we are in California. It was almost as if we had known each other for a very long time and were just catching up on what each other had been doing.

As she said, the weather was perfect and the spring flowers were absolutely beautiful. Northern California, where we are, is lots of rolling hills and open spaces that are really beautiful in the Spring. It gets quite warm in the summer time around here, though, and then everything is dry and brown.

Robin - so glad you had an enjoyable time on your "date." If Ken had had immediate family would the company have notified them he had fallen? China is definitely a different kind of place, but isn't he working for an American company? Your hours sound awful, but hopefully you will be busy enough to make it worth while. At least you have computer time when at work!!!

My connection to DIS seems to be doing fine now, thank goodness!!

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:

Kathy - Here's hoping Mike can get the job.

I need to get some dinner organized for us and will check in later.

Jocelyn: I like to think that the burnt hills in the summer in CA add to the Golden State theme, LOL! My best friend says that's just like me because I am a Pollyanna and see the good in things other people would think are ugly. The golden hills ARE pretty at sunset and sunrise, though, lol!

You brought up a point about poor Ken I forgot to ask. How awful he was in the hospital in China!

Alone for dinner which was supposed to be taco salad, but might just be eggs.:confused3 Then back to the DVR to see how Apolo did last night in his prelims. Don't tell me!

Snowy morning to you all LOL. Ya, more snow here. Supposed so snow today, and tomorrow yet. Haven't heard how much we are to get. We got about 4" last night, and more to come. Lots of wind, so there will be wind chill and blowing, drifting snow :( No school today again. I don't think the kids have gone 1 full week this month!!
Bev, thanks for the heads up on the Windows 7. I am just soo not liking Vista!!
Well, going to check email (learnt my lesson Lisa LOL) and drink my green tea. Still not happy with it, but it's tolerable. ;)
I'll check back later. Have a great day everyone!!

Robin - I am glad to hear you had a nice time with Rev. Jim. Is he currently stationed at a specific church? Sorry to hear that Ken had been hurt. Did you tell Ken that you are going to see Rev. Jim? How did he react? Maybe that will kick his butt home sooner!:rotfl:

Lisa - it sounds like you and Jocelyn had a lovely time at lunch. I can't believe you already picked up a Mother's Day gift. I probably won't even think of that until the day before. ( I always give her an outdoor plant, rose bush, etc. - so can't do that too early.) Maybe this year I'll just put $ down on her cruise account for an excursion. I am glad that your knee and ankle did well.
Thank you Lisa. He just called and is headed home. Now to just wait and see. They told him there are 500 applicants! :scared1: Nothing a small miracle can't handle. Leaving it up to God now.
Kathy - 500 applicants for one job? OMG. Will definitely add extra prayers.

Kathy - more snow? Holy cow! We have had sun the last couple of days and it has been so nice. I need to rearrange my office so I get more on my face. There is something about that which really raises my spirits.

I have a Dr. appt. this afternoon (just a med check with the PA), and I am taking my MM book with me to see if I can ask for specific blood tests since I'm not losing right now. Maybe I need to head back to Step 1 for a while. I would really miss my crackers and cheese though.

Have a great day!

Hey, Beverly! Are you still exercising? I had to stop because of the injuries and haven't lost any more this month, but haven't gained either, so that's not too bad, I guess. I'm sure the exercise makes a big difference. Looking forward to hearing what your doctor has to say.

Hello MM Warriors!! How are you all doing??? I hope you are all drinking your water and moving your bodies!! I miss you all and I am in need of a great big group hug :grouphug:

I am feeling a bit under the weather  (good thing it's not snowing or I would be buried alive) :rotfl: and my favorite Aunt :littleangel: passed away tuesday at the young age of 92.

Things are slowing down for me a little bit and god knows I need the break.

Lisa that is so cool that you and Joslyn met up with each other.

Robin I missed something you where on :cloud9: with Ken and you went on a date with some guy name Jim :confused3

That was as far as I got at the moment. I have alot of catching up to do.

How is everyone doing with their program. I keep starting step 1 over because I keep screwing up step 2 and I can't seem to stay focused.

I haven't gained any weight but I am so close to my goal that I don't want to screw up.

Anyway I will talk to you all soon, the boss is circling :scared1:

Good Morning,

I just saw this recipe on another site I belong to and wanted to share it with you. I have posted it in the recipe section, too. I'll try it when we get back home.

Makes 8-10 waffles
1 cup vanilla protein powder (I use VPX Zero Carb)-(from person posting recipe)
1 egg
1/2 cup light cream
1/2 cup water
2 1/2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
pinch of salt
“I think you will find these are just as fluffy and tasty as regular waffles with less calories and 0 or less than 1 carb each.” ( from the Poster)

Preheat a nonstick waffle iron waffle maker treated with cooking spray.
Beat egg well and then whisk in other ingredients until batter is smooth. Pour in hot waffle iron and cook for about 1 minute.

Pull out with a fork, spray “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” (or regular butter if you choose). Cover with Davinci Sugar Free, Walden Farms or other 0 carb syrup.
Tip: Try Walden Farms 0 Carb Blueberry Syrup, too! (From the Poster)
Nutrition info for 1 waffle based on 8 waffles per recipe:
• Calories: 109
• Carbs: 1 gram
• Protein: 9 grams
• Fat: 8 grams

I thought they sounded quite tasty!!

:hug:Laura - here is a special hug for you:hug:

So sorry to hear about your aunt, but I am sure she had a wonderful life and experienced and saw a lot in 92 years of living.
