Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Hi Lisa and girls! Well I've basically started a vegetarian diet. I've read a couple books and decided that it's the fats, carbs and meats that are killing me. I'm reading Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman and it makes sense to me. So I'm on my 2nd day. I've been reading everyone's posts but haven't had a chance to write anything.

Anyway, I had surgery 2 weeks ago...elective cause having 4 babies really did a number on my bladder muscles so I haven't been able to exercise nor will I be able to for about 4-6 weeks. Can't believe how rough it really is!

Hope everyone is well!

Good luck on the new diet!! Sounds like a good plan!!! It almost sounds like "The Cure" by Timothy Brantley. He promotes eating as raw as possible, staying away from fats, and such.

I hope you feel better soon after your surgery. My mom had it done years ago, and I had to take her to Pittsburgh to get it done again almost a year ago. I will be praying for a speedy recovery for you.

Oh, I just hate it when bad things happen to my kids. My 21 year old just lost a job that she loved. The owner didn't even have the decency to tell her by phone or in person - she sent her a text message. Demi is so upset and my heart is just breaking for her. The part that hurts the most is that I am pretty sure that Demi's part in it is that she doesn't have a lot of patience with other people and she ends up not getting along with one or two co-workers. The same thing happened at her last job but she quit that one. I am worried that if I try to talk to her about it she won't understand what I am talking about? The things I am talking about are things that have been part of her personality for as long as I can remember. I don't think she sees it..... I just want to fix it so she isn't so upset....

Kate, I am so sorry about Demi. I will be praying another job comes along quickly.
Sounds like she would be a great boss. It's hard to be patient at times, especially when you need something done for work. I will also pray that you will be able to find the right words to comfort her.

Good to see you Kath! The belly fat is whats making me crazy too...I have lost 30 pounds but cannot for the life of me figure out where it went...definitely in my legs, some in the butt, my arms and wrists, fingers, earlobes and toenails...but as long as this belly is sticking out, there is no way for me to go down another pant size...and I am sick of looking at it quite frankly! so Jorge is making me promises I just cant resist and I figure two weeks cant hurt...he claims results in one week, so if I see nothing after two weeks, then I will reconsider again...Im not even LOOKING at the scale, just want to feel that looser waistband and be able to see my darn toes without sucking in my gut! LOL, still posting from work only...trying to keep my cool and not throw the home computer out the window!!

Hope you guys have a good day tomorrow, I am off and who knows if I will be able to post from home! Off at 9pm now, so off to the gym and able to be home a little earlier...plus 2 Saturdays off a month! Yay!

Robin, let us know how it goes with Jorge. If I remember right, he also had an exercise thing where you do an exercise for like 30 secs, then do another for 30 secs, and so on. There were I believe 4 or 5 different easy exercises and you do the whole thing twice. It was helping me some. I may have to do some of the exercises in addition to the Y.
I am like you, seeing a difference in my legs, fingers (my ring is getting big) but not much in the belly area. I am feeling lighter this morning though. Not quite as "gushy" in the top part of my stomach.
I have to agree with the aspect of not eating when you're not hungry. That just never made much sense to me. Even animals don't eat when they aren't hungry. With the exception of dogs and humans that is. A dog will eat and eat until it's sick. Cats and such don't. They eat until they are full, then stop.
I have noticed that since I have been drinking the V8 3 times a day (only 8 oz) I seem to be more full and content. Before I was always hungry. Yesterday, I actually made it all day without snacking on stuff!! That is a huge accomplishment for me. LOL
I am going to research some exercises I can do for the lower abs and see if that helps any also. I may get an exercise ball and try. If it doesn't help, I can give it to Tyson to play with. He loves playing with them outside. LOL

I thought I'd just post a hi to everyone here too.
Another beautiful day here in PA. It is to be close to 60*!! It is so sunny out. We have about a foot of snow to melt yet though. The birds are singing, and I'm almost afraid to say this, but it feels like SPRING!!!!! :cool1:

Has anyone heard from Nell? I hope she is doing ok with school and such.

Ok, off to get my clothes out of the dryer, then get ready for work. Short day today, and a hair appt at 3:30.
Later everyone!!!!

Thanks Kathy - Sounds like you are doing better! Is the Cure what you are reading? Eat to Live definitely promotes raw eating. I have found that even though I love dairy, it doesn't love me. Breads don't like me either. On MM, I didn't lose 1 lb and I followed it faithfully for several months. It was very frustrating.

How are you doing with your milk?

Oh, Kate, that is the most painful situation when your child has been hurt. How about encouraging her to have a conversation with the boss? She'll probably hear the things you'd like to say, but it would be better coming from the source. Then you can just be her Mom and her soft place to fall. I'm sure we would all cringe if we could look back at how we handled ourselves at 21. If we were born perfect, we wouldn't have to go through this human experience to grow, right? I still have dreams about old jobs and there are things I'd like to go back and tell people I used to work with about what I know now. Poor Demi, I'm so sorry she's sad. Other doors will open and she'll find the place she's supposed to be next. I say that knowing that platitudes aren't enough to take away the hurt. Demi may find that she's better being her own boss someday. I'm not the greatest employee either; I have way too many opinions and I don't like to be told what to do. Finding out what kind of working enviornment makes her truly happy will be a big gain for Demi. In the meantime, take her shopping and for a pedicure or a massage!:hug::hug:

My SIL ate raw one summer and lost about 15 lbs. and had terrific digestion. I made the best raw pie with raw macadamia nuts, dates and a bit of oj in the food processor for the crust. Topped with bananas or any fruit and froze it. You can't believe how good it is. I've lost the recipe, but I'm on a hunt to find it. You don't have to freeze it, but with only two of us here, it was the best.

Kathy: When you get a chance to juice, try cucumber with the other veggies. Even just smelling it when Tom was juicing gave me energy. He would add a probiotic powder to his juice and it was like rocket fuel. We need to do that again with acceptable veggies. J-P loves homemade juice.

He's coming home tomorrow!!!!! :cool1:I am going to shower in his bathroom today so I can clean it, order his ice cream cake (by request) and try to catch up on work so I can take the day off with him tomorrow. I'm off to yet another pest inspection this am. I should get my own inspection truck!:rotfl:

Did I tell you he requested money so he could buy expensive kitchen knives with his birthday money? He also wants to make Thai soup while he's home. Wonders never cease.:)

Hi Cindy. I am doing better, thanks. I think all this sunshine isn't hurting either!!
The lady I work for has The Cure and I borrowed it last summer and read it. Dr. Brantley promotes all raw. Even meat. I can handle rare steak, but not rare chicken, pork, eggs, you know LOL.
I have been doing fairly well with no dairy. I am having just a bit of butter on my whole grain toast in the mornings. I am trying to phase that out too. Dry bread just doesn't do much for me, but it's all in how you view it I guess. I am going to get some non-dairy butter at the health food store maybe. It's almost $6/lb! Why does eating healthy have to cost so dang much?
I haven't had too many problems eating the whole grain bread. I know I'm supposed to be eating ezekiel bread, but just can't justify $7/loaf!! It's all I can do to justify spending $100 every 12 or so days on supplements!!

Ok Lisa, just rub it in that I can't have fruit!!:lmao: As soon as I get the ok, I'm making that if you find the recipe!!

I have actually done cucumbers in the juicer. But the first time I did it, I had too many of them and not enough other veges, and didn't really like it. I love to eat them fresh too. Just peel them and pop them in my mouth. When we drove out to CO to visit my sister, I lived on them on the drive. But I ate too many of them and made the digestion work a little too well LOL.
The book Juicing for Life is an awesome book to have if you juice. It is an absolute must in my opinion if you juice at all.
Here is the link for it:

Here is another one I am interested in getting:

I am so glad JP gets to come home!! I may have read about it earlier and forgot. :( I know you'll enjoy his time there. Thai soup sounds really good too!!

Hi Kathy - When I juice I love cukes, celery and spinach. It's really easy going down. Even better with an apple, but from what I'm reading you aren't doing fruits right now.

Right now I'm not juicing because I think taking out the fiber doesn't do me any good. My body loves all the fiber I'm giving it right now. I am eating wheat pitas but that's about the only "bread" I am eating. I must say, I feel terrific.

We just purchased the vitamix blender so I can't wait for it to arrive!

I can't believe even after 2 weeks after surgery I'm still recovering. Amazing how much time your body needs to heal.

Hope you are having a nice SUNNY day!

Cindy: I hope you will recover soon from your surgery. Give yourself plenty of time to rest and listen to your body. You've been through a lot! Glad you are feeling so much better. I really like to use sprouted grain breads as opposed to ones made with flour. So much better for you. It's wonderful to see you! Keep in touch as much as you can. We all learn so much from each other.

Thank you, Lisa. I really needed a place to share last night how bad I was feeling. Brad was already asleep. From what I could surmise, her boss asked Demi on Friday if something had been bothering her and she said yes, that it seemed one of her co-worker was letting everyone else do her work. The co-worker has been there longer than Demi and I think would have been considered her "superior." On Friday, Demi's boss said that she would think about how to handle the situation. Well, her solution was to send Demi a text message on Monday to say that she didn't need to come to work anymore. She kept sobbing that she loved the job and had worked so hard. I do think there are some good things that came from this experience (she learned that she loves being in kitchens and baking). I am going to have dinner with her tonight and we will put our heads together about the things to be grateful for and the lessons she can take away from the experience. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well and I still feel so bad for her. Demi DEFINITELY has way too many opinions, doesn't like being told what to do and is highly critical of those around her!!!! She is going to have to look at all of that and figure out what to do with it and and still get along the real world.

Bless her heart! She has all the signs of an entrepeneur;) When one is driven, it's hard to change those qualities. It was very wrong of the boss not to meet with her and give her a chance to correct any misstep. I daresay, it might have even been illegal. Why do lessons have to hurt so much??!! There was a coworker of J-P's at Safeway (J-P's high school job) - an older guy - that used to run to management all the time because J-P would implement creative ways to serve customers - sometimes a couple of minutes after the clock would say they should be closed. Management loved J-P for increasing profits and the poor other guy is still working at the gas station at Safeway now 6 years later. He was way too stuck in the rules. We talk about it all the time. This is also reminding me of my favorite child pychologist who said be careful of the qualities you might want to instill in your child because what some people think of as qualities of a well-behaved child would be the same qualities that would make you not want to spend any time with that person as a grown up at at cocktail party. Seen and not heard, so to speak, is boring. Good luck at your dinner tonight with Demi. I'll be thinking of you.

I am home for a couple of hours so have unlimited connection. The ship charges are out of site so just do e-mails off line and then Bob sends everything at one time.

Didn't Diane say she would not be answering e-mails anymore on her blog? I think those days are gone. She might have gotten too many questions from people who were not doing that well. On the blurbs for all of these diets that say you can lose many pounds a week, you have to weigh a huge number to begin with. I don't think any of us fit that category.

Personal e-mails without any attachments are fine to send to me while I am travelling, though.

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:
Jocelyn - How did I miss the fact that you are on an extended cruise? I knew you were going to CA, but didn't realize that you were picking up an extended cruise. How cool that you can stop by home on the way! Have a great time, I am very greenwith envy.:thumbsup2

I didn't see that Diane was stopping the answering. I guess I won't bother to e-mail her again. Unfortunately, I do have a very large amount to lose, so I should have seen much larger numbers than I am currently seeing.

It's so odd that so many are changing plans at the same time. I was thinking of it this a.m. in the shower, but really uncertain which way to turn.

Have a wonderful time in Mexico. I'll be glad to see you back!
I didn't get the job! :sad2: I sent her an email today and she said they filled the position. Crap.
Diane - that really sucks! I'm sorry, but this just means that something better will come!
Hope you guys have a good day tomorrow, I am off and who knows if I will be able to post from home! Off at 9pm now, so off to the gym and able to be home a little earlier...plus 2 Saturdays off a month! Yay!
Robin - glad to hear you are happy with your new schedule!

It's late and I'm off to bed. See you all tomorrow.

Happy J-P Coming Home Day! I hope that you have a wonderful time with him. Chloe gets home on Saturday for her one-week spring break. She is looking forward to it. I can't believe that the end of her first year is right around the corner and that I may survive it. Thanks definitely go to my friends here for your support and letting me share my feelings.

My dinner with Demi last night was really nice. She was never the child that was seen and not heard! :) In fact, she spent a lot of time sitting in chairs in the office at school or in the Vice Principal's office. And, we had quite a few meetings with her teachers over the years. Some of them loved her and some of them - not so much.... When we met last night, she told me that she had given herself the day to be mopey and that tomorrow (meaning today) she was going to get her resume out there. She said that at some point she will also try to talk to her boss. She said that there was some text messaging with one of the other employees yesterday and he said that he thought she could talk her way back into the job. But she says that everything has changed and she would rather take what she learned from the job and move on. Somehow, in some ways, I think it was harder on me than it was on her.

Thanks. Demi made a comment last night that I thought was interesting. She said part of the problem with the co-worker was that she needed constant reassurance. Did she look fat that day? Was her boyfriend going to break up with her? Demi said that first she tried to be nice and give her the approval and assurances that she needed. But she finally got tired of being "fake" with the woman and that is when things went south. She is going to have find the balance between speaking her mind and holding it in. Or, create the perfect job for herself!

Jocelyn - I missed it too and I am also green with envy. Is Australia your final destination? Keep us posted when possible so that we can travel vicariously through you!
