Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Lisa, I looked at the photos, very cute and Bonnie is so funny! JP looks good. :) Enjoy your family day.

Kathy, yes I did need more sleep. I woke up at 2:30 and still feel grumpy but better.

I'm going to make another spinach smoothie. Talk to everyone soon. :grouphug:

Happy Sunday

The boards were down yesterday and said for several hours so didn't check back.

Kate - I'm jealous. We used to ski at Northstar all the time - love it there. I am not a great skier, but hubby and son were. We would meet up at lunch and dinner :) There was always a run I could enjoy. Have a fun and safe trip.

Off to the beach for the day and lunch with friends.

Nell, just remember this is part of the detox. You are over 1/2 way through it!! It is going to be so worth it!! Just listen to your body (I know you will)

It's good to 'see' you! Ahhhh, a beach day, how lovely!

Hi. Still grumpy, lol. I just wanted to say hello and that I'm thinking of everyone. Thank you Kathy. I'm going to make another spinach smoothie again. My fatigue supplements should be on their way this week. I hope vitacost doesn't take forever, I did slightly upgraded shipping, so hopefully not. Well, I'll check back in a while to see if anyone one else writes tonight. I'm going to try and not stay up too late.

Good morning girls (and Tom if your out there somewhere in cyber space LOL)
We got more snow last night. Only about 2" but I think we are to get more as the day progresses. It's lake effect snow, so it's a really fluffy kind. Just stomp your foot and it scatters. So we just need to sweep it. No shoveling required YAAAA!
My knee is slowly healing. At work last night, it almost seemed as though my knee was "floating", or no control over it. It did pop somewhat and began to feel better. Had no problem walking at all. It was still stiff and a little sore, but no pain. It stiffened up while I slept last night, so hopefully I can still walk on it.

I got this week's Woman's World and was reading a bit of it last night. Dr. Oz is on the cover. I really like him. He explains why you need to do this or that. Anyway, he was talking about his diet. One of the supplements he recommends is Ribose. He said to take 5 mg 2-3 times a day. Sounds familiar, huh? LOL He was saying about how it's sweet like sugar. I do need to get more of that. I am going to put in an order to vitacost later this week. I am going to get that and the fatigued to fantastic revitalization system.

Nell, hope today is a better day for you. Your crappiness (is that a word? LOL) should be over very soon. Just come here and vent all you like about it.

I need to get ready for work and to take Carrie to school. Have a great day everyone!! Oh, I'll be back on tomorrow. Pay day today, so I need to go shopping to get some step 1 stuff.
:grouphug:

Good morning. Well, it is back to work for me. Although I have a dental appointment at 7:45 this morning. I think I may need a root canal! Double Yikes! Chloe and her girl friend are going camping today. I said camping? It is wet and cold! They said YES - we can't wait to sleep under the Redwoods. I guess when you are 18 the weather doesn't bother you as much?

Happy Monday everyone!

Good Morning! Sun is out but its still ABSOLUTELY FREEZING here!! I cant wait for our usually mild winter weather to return, hopefully next week. The ponies have added another inch of FUZZ to their coats to compensate for this cold! Makes me want to give them huge hugs every time I see them, like huge stuffed animals!!

Kathy - glad you got fluffy snow you can sweep...wonder if you are having cartiledge problems with that knee? the floating sensation sounds all too familiar to me...had several knee surgeries as a teenager due to cartiledge and that feeling was one of the things I remember most. It would feel like my kneecap wasnt attached to anything and then it would lock up, sometimes felt like it wouldnt support my weight, especially when going down stairs. Hope you get some answers soon!

Morning Kate - praying you can avoid root canal...YUK, I would rather drink green tea than go to the dentist!

Lisa - I LOVE this green tea with the orange, jasmine and passionfruit! And its a Lipton, so hopefully wont be too hard to find again...had LOTS yesterday and Im on my way down to have a cup before I go to work. Think Im going to try to change up the times of day, like the First article suggested. I have been adding a splenda, but thinking I might even be able to drink it straight up!

Nell - hope your supplements come soon...After reading the Womans World article about safllower oil and belly fat, I have been searching for some pure safflower supplements, so will head on over to vitacost and see if they have them. Not sure I can be happy about "drinking" two tbsp of oil every day! How do you make your spinach smoothie? I have resolved to do more veggies, and spinach being the leafy green that Perricone suggests, I am looking for ways to get more of it!

Jocelyn - I am envisioning myself on your beach having lunch! Send some warm weather this way would you!

Off to get ready for work, so hope you all have a GREAT MM DAY!!:)

Kathy: It was because of Dr. Oz that I found Dr. Teitelbaum. Dr. Oz was on Oprah and mentioned him and his book. Dr. Oz has had Dr. Teitelbaum on his show too. Cool! I’m glad ribose is helping you and Nell. Take care of that knee! When are you getting the MRI?

Robin: So great about your new green tea find. My favorite is green tea with jasmine. We drink it hot and cold. If you drink the ones with a lot of colored fruit you might want to brush your teeth after. I always worry that the dark ones will stain more. Sweet, fluffy ponies paints a cute mental picture.

Kate: Good luck at the dentist today! J-P leaves this morning and I cried into my pillow last night. I’m really down about it. It seems like it’s harder on me the longer I get to have him here – I get used to it and it feels like more of a loss when he leaves. I’m trying to focus on all the good things he has waiting for him when he returns to Portland and work, but it’s not working very well. I’ll be alright after tomorrow most likely. Need to get busy with work and EXERCISE and I’ll feel better.

For those that saw the Christmas pics I posted, that ‘bone’ of Bonnie’s was chewable. She walked around very concerned for a couple of days thinking she should hide it and then pondering whether she should chew it, and then really happy and troubled at the same time when she finally did chew it down to one remaining end. Poor thing, she loved it so much, I’d better buy another one!

Good Morning!
Still no home computer :sad2:

Kathy - Your knee doesn't sound good still. Please be careful and followup with your doctor soon if it's not stable.

Kate - root canal

Lisa - I'll be saying little prayers for J-P to get home safe.

Robin - I think you need to shave the ponies in the spring and knit some pony fur assessories

I ended up getting a book by Jack Chellem called the Inflammation Syndrome instead of the one you recommended Lisa. The only reason I did was because Chellem wrote a previous book called Syndrom X, all about insulin resistance. I figured he'd be more into the effect of carbs on all our health issues. Boy was I right! His recommended diet is very close to phase 1 with more fish recommended. What's really eye opening is his recommendations for supplements and the amounts needed to help with inflammation everywhere in your body. Higher doses of E, C, fish oil of course and Glucosamine/Chondroiten (sp?) He especially recommends avoiding wheat/gluten and dairy. A little butter but that's it. He makes a good point about dairy. He says we are the only species that drinks milk after infancy and then goes on to drink another species' milk (cow). That's not something our bodies were meant to do. Oh, he also says we need to balance our intake of fats better. More olive oil and less of other vegetable oils. We get far too many omega 6 oils and need to balance with more omega 3's. That's where the fish and fish oil supplements come in. I'm back on step1 and will incorporate the supplements and cut cheese out. I'm going to cut bread products down and only have 1 piece of my Julian bread a day. LOTS more veggies.

Lisa, did you ever hear back from Julian Bakery about our concerns re their net carb claim?

Gotta work for awhile, I'll check back soon

Barb, that book sounds great and it's the same advice from Dr. Perricone and Dr. Teitelbaum. The Mediterranean Diet is great for optimum health and cancer preventiion. Fish and olive oil! And lots of olives, YUM! LOL, Robin! Julian never responded to my email. If you are ok with soy, you can eat the veggie cheeses. They are quite good. Tom loves the pepper jack and I use the mozzie shred to cook with. You are going to notice your skin looking 10 years younger on this new diet. If you find any rye bread without wheat that fits into our MM formula, it would be quite a great find. I do like the Wasa type flat breads and there might be some that are wheat free.

Robin: I put a couple of generous handfulls of chopped spinach (You can use frozen) in that frittata I make. You can add or leave out any veggies as per your taste and it comes out about the same. Another good way to get your spinach in. Also, you can add it to chilis, meatloaf, etc. My sister made the best turkey meatloaf with my Julian breadcrumbs.

Good day everyone!:wave2:

Nell, If it's any consolation, I'm miserable as well!! lol Guys, I can't do Step I for nothing!! I have had four cheats in one week! There is something so horribly wrong that I can't recommit to this WOE no matter what! Help! Step II still seems so completely doable to me though. Funny thing, I was reading my monthy horoscope this morning and it said for me to forget my resolutions until the 15th of this month, that nothing I commit or resolve to do will be successful! lol I couldn't believe my eyes. No excuses, honestly, I've been so mean and miserable this go round, I just say the heck with it, and proceed to eat what I want.:mickeybar What is up with that!! :upsidedow :sad2:And the strangest thing ever...The scale is down 4 pounds from last week!!!!!

Big hugs to you Lisa  I get upset when I send my DD29 up the road to Indianapolis and that's just an hour from here. We love them to pieces, so we're allowed. :lovestruc He'll think of you every time he puts his new coat on and he looks so good in it! :goodvibes

Kathy, thanks so much for all the info on tea. I'm going to go out to the mall and see if I can find some teas to blend so I can get myself happily on the green tea wagon. I sure hope you find some relief from your knee soon. I've been on the Osteo Bi-Flex for a few months now and I can't tell I've ever even had that first problem with my knees. Have you tried that?

Barb, all the suppliments you mentioned, I've been on for over a year now. They work. I feel a little remiss in not mentioning it sooner. I was starting to suffer with arthitis in my hands, my mother has it really bad, and decided to check out what I could do for it on my own. Dr. Oz's Realage site is where I got all the info I needed. Run, ;)don't walk, to the store and get yourself on those. You'll be amazed at how much better you'll feel in just a matter of months.

Robin, our farmer neighbor has probably 75 of those round bales of hay stacked across the road at the end of our lane. They are so big!! lol It was so fun trying to imagine you and your neighbor even attempting to roll out one of them. And the visual of your ponies laying around on them!? We're stuck in a bitter freeze as well. It's been predicted that we're going to be dealing with this the entire winter. Not so much snow but the cold, we've been dealing with wind chills below zero for over a week now. So I hear ya!

Well I finally decided to take all my Christmas decorations down and do a full spring cleaning sweep. This is day two on that so I best be getting back on it.

You all have a wonderful rest of your day.

Pam, I ran in my office for a minute while the packing is underway to see if anyone could make me feel better and there you were! I love you! I'm still going to cry, but I guess he'd think I'd grown cold if I didn't.

It sounds like the evil carbs have a hold on you! Are you cheating with step2 foods or junk? Stock up on step1 foods you enjoy, grit your teeth and within 4-5 days the hard part will be over.

Well, hello everybody!

I am re-starting Step 1 today. I will try to be more active here as well. It is hard because I do not have internet at home right now and have to do it at work. Facebook is much easier to browse and use under the boss's nose. Anyway, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year.

Tom, Welcome Back ! We missed you. Hope you're able to post often :hippie:

Kate, I am sure Chloe will have a lot of fun camping!! Kids don't seem to mind cold and wet conditions LOL.

Robin, I am in the same boat as you. It is absolutely freezing here!! The temp is to be like 20* all week with snow. I was going up the street this morning to work, and ended going up the small hill broadside and sliding because they never plowed or salted the road! And no school delay. Don't know how the buses managed. These school board members who decide this stuff of whether to delay/cancel or not need to be out driving in it when they leave schools open!! I am thinking of going to the doctor tomorrow about my knee. After work today, I am back to square one. It is hurting pretty bad again. I'm sitting here with a frozen rice sock on it. I hope it's something that I won't miss work over.:(

Lisa, I didn't realize Dr. Oz knew of him LOL. I hold a lot of respect for Dr. Oz, and love his show when I can hear it. Don't get to watch it, so I turn it up and listen to it while I'm working LOL. I haven't been to the doctor about my knee. I went to the chiroprator hoping it would just be out of joint. But I'm thinking it may be more than that. Sorry you feel so down about J-P leaving. Like you said, you kind of get used to it, but you don't. I know each time my brother or sister come to visit, it's hard on me when they leave. But I know they are happy where they are.

Barb, thank you for the concern about my knee. I pretty much decided today that I need the doctor to take a look at it. Even if it is arthritis, I am thinking this is more than an "out of joint" injury.

Pam, Nell and I were wondering about the weight thing too!! I am thinking that maybe our L & P have "learnt" how to process some of the carbs the right way. And another thing, you may THINK you're eating what you want, but are you still eating MM mostly and not realizing it? That is what I have been doing. I had only been "cheating" 1 time a day. And that was mostly things like nachos, whole wheat bread, and I noticed I wasn't "gorging" on them like I had before. Just something to ponder.
Thank you for the input on the Osteo Bi-Flex. I thought about buying it, but didn't know if it was any good or not. I will have to see if Puritan's Pride may have it. They are running a sale now. Buy 1 get 1 free (I think) or buy 2 and get 3 free, so either way I get some free. I remember when Mike got his fingers smashed on the gas rigs, the therapy guy told him to take Cosemine DS. He said it is the "cadallac" of glucosamine/condroiton. He tried it for about 4 months but said it didn't help him. I will try what you recommend.
I am going to check out the Dr. Oz site too. THANKS!!

Hi Tom and welcome back!! We are on FB too! If you need the info, just let one of us know!! Hope all is going well with you!!

My mom just left a while ago with book in hand. I am so excited for her to start. I told her any questions, just call me, and if I didn't know the answer, you all would. And if you all don't, we can email Diane. She liked that we are in touch with her if we have any questions. I told her to skip step 2 & 3 reading for now. I am hoping she does well and Tristan's MIL will decide to try it. Not to sound mean, but she is quite over weight, but she is very active and she doesn't really eat a lot or eat a ton of junk food. She seems Met B to a T. So if she sees how well mom does, I can convince her to give it a try. She had commented on how much I lost between the wedding and when we went shopping in Nov. She is doing Weight Watchers and did lose around 9# so far. But she struggles with it. And like Robin, she has animals that need tending as they live on a farm. Cows, a pig, 2 or 3 donkeys, 2 fainting goats (they won't faint though LOL), not to mention the dogs.

Ok, I'm going to get a cup of coffee (had 24 ounces of iced green tea today!) and sit back for a bit.
Mike got KFC for supper when I got home from work, so just need to put left overs away and relax tonight.
Did I thank you for Flylady? I am finding it very easy to get things done in the morning, and I have the evenings to relax!!
Sorry for rambling on and on and on.....

:wave:Hi again everyone!

Barb and Kathy, I guess it would have helped a tiny bit if I told you all what I was doing huh? :upsidedow <that is exactly how I feel right now. My day starts out well enough, breakfast and lunch, no problems. By mid afternoon, I'm so hungry I could eat this house! I'm mean and cranky and all I can think about is eating something, which I do, and it's always something like cookies, or corn chips, stuff I'd normally not even have in the house. Yesterday at dinner time I gave no thought at all to thawing out left over tamales from Christmas and eating three for dinner. Saturday we picked up our grandson and on the way home we stopped at Wendy's for a burger for him. He asked for chicken nuggets half way through his meal and Grandpa went up and got a ten piece for him and ...yes I ate at least five of them and gave it no thought or concern at all. I didn't even do that before starting this WOE! I can't say I'm obsessing over it, but if it's before me, oh yeah, I'm going to eat it. I thought today that since this is hitting me hard in the afternoon, maybe I should start heading to the mall and walking for a couple of hours until it passes, a diversion of sorts. ::sigh:: This is really starting to get to me, I have less that fifteen pounds until I'm at goal, I've got to get my head on straight ..soon!

Did any of you get to see Dr. Oz today? Great show, worth every minute, M'hum I was eating hard Christmas candy the during the entire program. It was his You on a Diet program that I stalled on when I found MM. I think his way is the best way out there, but only if you're NOT Met. B. I noticed that he talks a lot about hormones and insulin resistance, but never goes into detail about what it is. He did talk about removing all "white stuff" and then mentioned very briefly that we're eating a lot of things, namely sugar, that our bodies don't recognize as food, the end. lol I thought for a moment he was going to reveal something new that I really needed to know! Don't misunderstand, I love Dr. Oz. When I need to find out anything relating to health I always go straight to his sites.

Tom, welcome on over! Good to see you! I hope you get the chance to join in here.

Pam: I taped Dr. Oz and rewatched some of it with Tom so he could learn about stress, belly fat and hormones. We are going to get the homeopathic tincture of passionflower right away and I thought it would be a huge help to Robin's quest to diminish the 'stress belly'.

I have to say I felt soooo good sitting there knowing we are well on our way instead of being at my worst and just starting for the New Year like some of the folks on the show. Thank you all for being there to support me on my journey. He talked about how very important it is to have a buddy - and we have many!

Pam, when can you draw the line in the sand??? You know what to do so you need to pick a date and get black and white about Step 1 for a while. You are so close to your goal, which is amazing. However, and I say this with love, if you are Met B, you cannot eat the things you have been eating even if you reach your goal. They are poision to your system. I like the idea of finding something to do during your 'weak' times of day.

We're going to go say goodbye to Olivia tonight. She's swinging by Mom and Dad's on her way back through town before going back home to college. It's a day full of goodbyes, but maybe it will be hello to our couple time again.
