General Star Wars Discussion

Don't theaters also use the predictions to decide how to allocate their screens? I noticed just before "Project Hail Mary" opened that my local theater upped it from three to four screens.

I'm sure they do. It's all related to industry business.

I supposed that these days someone could be betting on it, like in those predicition markets, but that's not the primary purpose.

Interesting. Is there some kind of investing or betting that goes on based on this? I'm wondering who uses these specific numerical predictions.
No clue if there is betting. Is more helpful than a Fandago survey, see below.

It's very hard to believe that Mortal Kombat II and Insidious are more anticipated summer movies that SW:TM&G. I'm scratching my head what to make of this list of most anticipated summer movies. Maybe things for the SW franchise is worse than even I thought among the general public?

The studios use it to help them set espectations and guide marketing. If it's tracking soft, they may decide to pump up marketing. It's all used for the business, but because this is done by third parties, they make the information public.

$71M low-end domestic oepning isn't bad for this movie. I hope it trends upward a bit as it gets closer. If reviews are strong, this could be a decent hit.

Oh, right, that makes sense! I see so much discussion of box office predictions online that I thought there must be some money in it lol.

Hmmm. I have a friend who's really excited to see TM&G in-theater so I was always going to go with her regardless. But if it was just me, I might've waited for it to come out on Disney+. Nothing I've seen so far makes me think, "wow, I can't wait to see what happens in this movie!"

Starfighter I'm a little more curious about, if only for the (hopeful) Rey cameo. It feels kind of crazy that we've only seen that one still shot though, and not a peep about the plot. Is that normal for Star Wars? (I only became a fan after TROS came out so I have no idea!)

They usually play things close to the vest for Star Wars as spoilers are rampant. Starfighter is still more than a year out, so it's pretty normal to not have seen much. I expect there might be a teaser attached to The Mandalorian, but I don't expect it to show a whole lot - more of a get the name out there kind of thing.

Maul Episodes 3 & 4:
The show continues to impress! It's really just so good and looks incredible - some of the action this week - man!
  • I like Devon a little more now, but I know where this is going....
  • Speaking of, I love Daki and he held his own against Maul. Still, something bad's going to happen to him.
  • I appreciate how Two-Boots and Lawson can disagree but not be bitter about it - they really seem like freinds. Two-Boots just wants to do what he believes to be right. Also, his general assessment is not wrong - the police force is absolutely no match for Maul and his band of Nightbrothers and Mandalorians! The only perspn who stands even a remote chance is Daki.
  • It's VERY interesting that Lawson's ex-wife is an Imperial!
  • I wish we had seen more of the sport being played - apparently they do have the rules laid out just for the series bible.
  • Come on, Krim - gonna fall for the fake Maul bit? I saw that coming!
  • Oh, the action of Maul cutting down the Pikes - so stylish and cool! His fast little moves - seems like you rarely see that.
  • And, well, it's all fun and games until that Star Destroyer comes to town! What a great rendition of the Imperial March too - very ominous!
