General Star Wars Discussion

If Solo had done better we would have seen it. I do think though that Qi'ra's story as head of Crimson Dawn is picked up on in some of the comics or novels. The quality of those can vary wildly though.
i have mixed feelings on Solo. Just went back and watched it again with my husband, and I am warming to it. My young adult daughter loved it on the other hand.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, thought it was fast paced and fun. But for me.... I could not get past someone else as Han, and it was not that Alden Ehrenreich did a 'bad job' he was just not Harrision, silly perhaps..... but it was something that made the suspension hard. I also liked Han having a nebulous unsavory past, some things I liked having as a mystery. I enjoyed all the other characters, Dryden Voss was extra and I loved Emilia as Qi'ra

I really enjoyed Solo as a movie, but I do feel that it was entirely unnecessary. It didn't need to be told. It might have worked better as a series, maybe even an animated series. I personally think Alden did a great job though and if the time comes that they are looking for a young Indiana Jones, he should be their first call.

This is how I feel. It was a fun movie that was totally unnecessary. Rogue One was fun because it took a 1 sentence blurb and expanded the Rebellion to show the ground level actions that allowed Star Wars to happen. Same reason Andor is great. I guess I'm just tired of prequel winks. I think the Hunger Game prequel did an excellent job of not doing that which made it a lot more enjoyable than a bunch of "member Katniss".

So Marvel appears to be abandoning failing characters in favor of more popular characters used in prior films (Wolverine, Deadpool, and a now RDJ return). Will Star Wars learn their lesson or continue to fall further in to IP obscurity?

Yeah, Rogue One was also "unnecessary" but felt more substantial in the overall story. I actually prefer the tone of Solo, but I don't think they needed to give us the origin of his gun, his name, his dice, his pants.... 🤣 That's all just kinda trite. I think it would have been better to have not made Solo the main character, but rather just a look into the underworld of the era with Han/Lando as players in it. Han didn't need an "origin" so to speak.

Like the book Scoundrels.

Yeah, that would have been a better starting point. Still, that's not to say that I don't like Solo - it actually turned out rather good, but they could have done more with it.

You know, I was thinking more about a possible one-shot live action young Han & Lando adventure and how cool it would be if they did it in the Rashomon Effect/Unreliable Narrator style.

Bring back Harrison and Billy Dee and have them intercut with the flashbacks of the younger versions of themselves whilst they’re sitting around playing Sabacc together in some dodgy cantina (pre-TFA obvs) and Lando starts telling the story in a way that makes him look good and then Han would be like “No, this is how it really happened” and it just keeps changing perspective/replaying events to make the other one look better and seeing it from the other characters that were involved perspectives as well. You could even have Chewie telling his exasperated version of events as well and it’s kind of a throwback back to the Holiday Special Wookie section 😂

It turns out all very “record scratch - I bet you’re wondering how I got myself into this situation”. I don’t know, I just think that would be really funny to see because I need more Han and Lando bickering and want to see more of how their relationship grew over the years.

That would be pretty great, actually.

Sounds like the best episode of the X-Files, "Bad Blood." :D

I absolutely love this, except you need someone to translate for Chewie as he tells the "real/accurate" version of what happened. I'm picturing 3 versions. Han's version where he looks good, Lando's version where he looks good, and then the final version is Chewie. I'm also open to a fourth version (which would happen before Chewie's) where they both look like idiots, but I'm not sure who tells that version.
