Hello,
We're thinking about renting points for a trip we're planning in late January-Early February. This would be our first time renting points.

I've read a lot of info, but there's three things I can't find.

When renting points, do you pay the "owner/seller" once the reservation is confirmed, or do you pay half at the time of booking and half at a different point in time or???

Secondly, if we purchase points and ask the seller to add the dining plan, do we pay the seller for the dining plan, or do we pay disney for the dining plan? And if we pay Disney, do we pay when it's booked, or at check-in?

And lastly, are you still able to charge items to your room key and/or have park purchased items sent to the resort for you? Or are those perks only for "regular" hotel guests?

That depends on the contract you have with the owner. Some require payment in full when the reservation is made, and some have a pay plan with half due at booking and half do later.

You pay Disney for the dining plan. In the past, we have paid for it on arrival, but Disney is saying we will be able to pay ahead in the future.

Yes, you will be the same as any other Disney resort guest. You will also be able to take Magical Express and use any of the other services that any Disney resort guest has access to.

This is all dependent on who you rent from. Different people have different agreements. I usually ask for the entire payment when the renter gets the written confirmation from me but have on occasion gotten half at that time and half 3 months before the trip. Some of it depends on how close to the trip the reservation is made.

At this time the DDP is paid when you check in. That is supposed to change soon so you may have to pay the person you are renting from if they change it to being paid when the reservation is made or at least before checking in.
And lastly, are you still able to charge items to your room key and/or have park purchased items sent to the resort for you? Or are those perks only for "regular" hotel guests?

Yes you can do all of the above. You will be treated as any other guest staying at a Disney Resort. You are also able to use ME if you wish but the person you rent from will have to call MS with the information to set it up for you as they will only deal with the owner of the points.

Hope you are able to have a good renting experience.

Renting is a private transaction between you and the owner you rent from. The payment arrangements are whatever the two of you agree on.

Important to understand - you don't "purchase points." You are renting a reservation, not points. The owner retains ownership of the points until they are "spent" when you check in.

For DDP or DME, the owner will have to make the arrangements for those through Member Services and MS will not speak to a non-owner. You will pay Disney Dining directly for DDP when you check in. (There is a new option to pay in advance for owners, but I'm not sure if a renter can do that.) DME is a free service available to all onsite guests.
And lastly, are you still able to charge items to your room key and/or have park purchased items sent to the resort for you?
Yes.

Just want to clarify about the DDP. Since things will be changing in the fall (at least that is what we are told) and it has to be paid at the time of the reservation, or up to 48 hours in advance, you want to be sure that whoever you rent your reservation from is willing to work with this.

In the past, since it was paid at check in, all the owner had to do for the renter is add it and then the payment was taken care of directly at the resort, when the renter checked in.

When the new change goes in to effect, it will be have to be paid for in advance. There may be some owners who don't want to get involved in the DDP any longer if it becomes a hassle, since they will either have to collect the funds ahead of time from the renter, or do a three way call.

Since it is something that you are considering, be sure you know that it won't be an issue for the owner, if it has to be paid for ahead of time.

Thank you all for answering my questions! We're looking to go around mid-january through early feb for about 12-14 days, so thanks for the warning about the DP changes as it looks like that will affect us. Off to try to find flights and firm up our dates! :surfweb:

FYI, if you are looking to rent points, that would be the place to start. NEVER book flights before you book the reservation when it comes to DVC.

Good advice. If you are staying 12-14 days, you may have difficulty in finding an owner with enough points to rent for that whole period and availability may be more of an issue than if your stay was only 4-5 days.

I'd definitely get your reservation in place before you start buying airfare, etc.
