I have some silly questions and I'm sure the answers are out there somewhere.
How long does a character meal last?
How long does it take to go back to your resort in the middle of the day? (French Quarter)
Would it be better to rent a car and drive from a hotel to each park or just take the bus? I plan on having a break almost every day around 1/2 and coming back around 4/5 but if it's an hour to get back and forth - I may have to rethink the plan.
Thanks!
I want to see the rope drop 'show' at least once. What time do you need to be there before opening to see it properly?
Another random q. Would you be allowed to lay down in the first aid room for an hour? I have cancer and I get tired. If I could just go have a nap, my family could continue hanging out.

Yes. It's like a small hospital back there with cot/beds and curtains around them. (Ok I'm going by Disneyland but I can't imagine it's different at world) Tell them what you need. First aid is staffed by registered nurses.

Most character meals are buffets/family style so a lot would depend on how fast your family takes to eat. One exception is the Trattoria Al Forna character breakfast which remains a la carte/menu. The other variable is the character rotation. This usually happens pretty fast but sometimes a character may go on break and it could take longer to get to your table. I would give a range of 45 to 90 minutes depending on these two variables.

It will depend on where you are coming from but from a park I'd allow for 60 minutes one way, including transportation wait times which is the biggest variable. If a bus is already waiting and has space the time will be cut significantly; in just accounting for driving approx. 15-25 minutes, again dependent on where you are coming from.

Renting a car will significantly reduce the travel times except in the instance of Magic Kingdom where you still have to take some form of Disney transportation even after parking. Whereas the bus will take you directly, so this is often the better choice.

I've never done rope drop but I would assume the rule of 60-90 minutes applies here as well. Someone else may have better advice.

The first aid centers aren't really a place to just hang out. I suggest making a list of quiet places in the parks and resorts to rest. There are many off the beaten path benches and tables at which to rest. But you won't see many people just laying around sleeping at WDW (unlike DL or TDL, lol). There are several long, cool, dark attractions that are also a good place to take a brief snooze.

You absolutely can go to first aid and lay down for a medical issue like that. It's no different than when I had to go to first aid and ice my knee and get off of it for a while.
