Gender Reveal Party?

I personally would think that it would be just a celebration. I personally wouldnt bring a gift as it is not a shower and I am sure they will have one. Maybe bring a couple food dishes to share? I would also get a girl card and a boy card and give whichever one the ultrasound reveals!

My husband and I attended one last year. The mother-to-be had made arrangements to have the ultrasound tech write the gender on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. Then she took the envelope to a local bakery and had them design a cake. The idea was that half way into the party the cake would be revealed and so would the new baby's gender.

Weren't we all suprised to learn Bill was retiring. A clerk at the bakery made a mistake and gave them the wrong cake. It was funny. The party was good until the cake was revealed then it was great. The best part was listening to the mother call the bakery to find out what she was having. It was a boy. She is a go with the flow kind of girl and didn't get upset, we were all too busy laughing.

I thought for sure by the title this was some new type of party for someone who has undergone gender transformation. My bad.

This is what I thought when I saw the title! Learn something new every day; I've never heard of a party to reveal the sex of a baby.

I have a hard time showing up empty handed....if i knew the host, i would ask if i could bring food to help....if not, I would probably bring something for mom-to-be to keep comfy for the next 20 weeks or a children's book....

Honestly I don't really like being the center of attention so when I heard about this I thought really?? I mean I could see maybe sealing in an envelope the gender giving it to my neice that bakes really well to make a set of cupcakes and then doing a big reveal for my husband and I... maybe even a small cake with immediate family (so the amount of people normally at thanksgiving or christmas dinner) but not a huge party.

Just think how surprised the retiring guy was to find out he's having a boy!

I have seen some of the cute ideas on pinterest, and I can see doing a small party for the grandparents and other close relatives. Especially if everyone wants to be the *first* to know. A party with 80 people seems a bit excessive, but to each their own!

I just hope the little one cooperates on sono day. My first DD was "shy" and would not give us a clue after the 20 week exam. When we got another peek a couple weeks later, the doc would only give us an "80% chance" that it was a girl. Luckily it was, because MIL went crazy with the pink after that!

Of all the well planned and executed parties that happen, they will be forgettable.

This one, everyone will remember this. Just a little lesson for us all, when things don't always go as planned, that's when the magic happens.

If the baby won't cooperate at the ultrasound, we will reschedule or cancel the party for my niece. I offered to host the party because my house is bigger than hers and because I love party planning.

I think the party will be fun! My niece and her husband are going to tell friends and family the gender anyway. Why not do it in a fun way?

This is their first baby. She and her husband will not find out the baby's gender at the ultrasound. They are going to have the ultrasound tech seal an envelope containing the gender information and then my niece will give it to me so I can give it to my bakery. It's going to be really hard not to peek! I won't though. I am planning on having a white cake decorated with pink and blue polka dots and a big question mark on top. The inside of the cake will be either pink or blue when they cut into it. We are asking guests to wear either pink or blue clothing to signify their best guess as to the gender of the baby. I am planning to have a candy/dessert buffet in pinks and blues and the cake will be on that table. I will have other party foods and drinks as well. My niece comes from a big family (5 brothers, 2 of whom are married with children) and her husband has 2 married sisters with children so most of the guests will be family with a few close friends of the couple as well.

I can't wait to find out if I will have a new grand-niece or a new grand-nephew!

Awww - that sounds absolutely wonderful. LOVE the idea of the cake!! And tell them if it's twins (1 of each) to do layers - one pink and one blue LOL

We just went to a gender reveal party a few weeks ago for some friends who are having their first baby. I was skeptical at first but it was really cute. We ended up being late and missed the fun of the reveal but still had a good time.

The friends that planned the party had lots of decorations in pink and blue and the food was all pink and blue as well. I think they played a few games involving some old wives tales type of stuff and guesses about the gender. I think everyone made their guesses and then the couple opened the envelope to reveal they were having a boy.

I thougth it was cute. No gifts were involved and they didn't invite 80 people either. Just a few co-workers like us and then some of their close friends and family. I'd say there were maybe 20 or 25 people there. And it was just snacks and cupcakes and stuff.

Sounds a little self absorbed to me, but whatever. We had 3 gender reveal parties at the hospital....when the baby was born! That was tons of fun, waiting 9 months to see what we had, the old fashioned way. For the fourth baby I was obsessed with planning (after giving away all my baby things) and found out at the u/s.

I agree...the party sounds fun! If you feel like a bringing a gift, just bring a little something...you'll have to get a shower gift and then a "welcome baby" gift too.
