Geena Davis just gave birth to twin boys at 47. I've never known anyone in my personal life who had children after their early 40's. I don't want to start a debate, but does anyone think that it's unusual to have children at 47?

I think its unusual, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I feel as long as a person has the financial means and enough heart to raise a child, that the age of the parent is just a number.

Hey, more power to her!

I know someone who was either 47 or 48 when she adopted two newborns. The newborns are now 7 and 8 years old.

More power to her, but more importantly....

Better her than me!!!:p

I can't imagine having a baby at 47!

My Mom will be 50 this summer - I can't see her having a three year old at this point!

At 47 I'll have an almost 30 year old! :earseek: :earseek:

However, she IS a bit too old if you ask me, but who am I....

I didn't even know she was having a baby, let alone twins!

More power to her. Who can dictate when the "right" time is to have a child??

I think it's great!!! Age is a relative thing, after all.

I took care of a baby who was born to a mom who was 48. Her FIRST child. She was estatic!! And she had plenty of nieces to help her!!

And besides, Joan Lunden, the former GMA host, had twins (via a surrogate) at 52!!

Well, generally speaking only a tiny percentage of women can become pregnant at that age. With the advances they've made in medicine, i'm sure that date may change.

I don't know....i'm not sure how I really feel about it. I guess I feel that the more power to her, but I can't help but feel it's just too old. I look at Celine Dion's husband in his 60's with a toddler and I just can't help but feel sad. Please don't flame me, but it's just my feeling...

When I met my ex-MIL, she was 48 and her Mom was 95. She buried her at 98. Not everyone is blessed enough to have a Mom for 50 years like she did.

I'm 48 now and I would LOVE to have twins... if it were possible! I love kids and God bless Geena Davis and her babies.

Not necessarily normal, but I have known a good number of families from church that have had children in their 40s... congratulations to Geena!!

I thought she was 48, but she sure doesn't look it.

I guess that's what happens when you marry your plastic surgeon!

Because she is Geena Davis, it is unlikely that her situation will be similar to other 47 year old women. She will most likely have hired help - a nanny, au pair, or governess. It will not be as challenging for her as it would be you or I.

I can honestly say that my Mom had her last one at 46 years and 3 months.

He sure turned out to be a 'keeper' too!! :teeth:

ohmigod!!!! I don't want to be a grandmother at 47 (and I am 47), never mind a Mom to twins!!! She's crazy, but as someone pointed out, she'll probably have a nanny, but she's stll crazy!!!
