Geeks go for broke! Updated 2/17: Wrap-up

I just wanted to say I'm a big fan! :worship: (That felt weird to say - but, heck, it's true). :lmao:

Oh, and I almost forgot: here is our door!

000byrwh

So much easier to find this way, especially after many glasses of Champagne...... :thumbsup2

Aha! I have been wondering what the heck a "Fish Extender" was... now I get it! :rotfl:

(I think- it's the red thing hanging from the fish, right?? )

uh huh... :goodvibes & it's just like getting stuff in your stocking!!!

(of course mine WAS a stocking... :rotfl2: )

Dunno 'bout anyone else, but I am having 1-week-after withdrawals and am terribly missing the great time we had on our cruise.:sad2:

I totally agree - first, we had at least 2 extra desserts every night "just try this" he would say. Second, the service was seamless, one entry right into the next!

You too? :rotfl: I don't think there was a single night when we had fewer than five desserts on the table, PLUS the fresh fruit Sarah always requested!

I loved your door Erica! I always enjoyed walking by it...since it was right down the hall from me!!!

I never thought about going up and looking at pool when the ship was rocking! I'll have to do that next time!

It's great, unless you are prone to sea sickness. Then......well, not so much ;)

Our server team rocked. We had our laughs with Gavin when he'd come by with his pepper mill, "Cracked pepper, sir," he would ask in his South African accent. As far as Sameer goes, DW (Alleluia5) and I were talking to him and told him how much we love Indian food. Next thing we know, Sameer's face lights up and tells us that next time we cruise, he will have Indian food made for us.

P.S. Edit:

Now that I have met my 10-post requirement, I am able to post those URLs to the "If I Were Not Upon The Sea" videos. Here you go...enjoy....

I'm going to have to try later, because between my not-so-good hearing and my bird, who has decided that 10:45 am is time for an hour-long squawk fest, I can't hear a single thing! It looked funny though ;) Thanks for posting that, and sorry we didn't get to meet up with you!

Great Update Erica! I had to laugh about the lounge act, I was thinking of the old SNL skit with the "we head up the music department at Altadina Middle School" couple:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Glad you managed to keep your skirt on.
Loved your door signs, and your FE was adorable!

Thanks Tammie!

Yes! We're cruising w/ the geeks to Tortola too!

Great trip report! Looking forward to reading more
:)

It's going to be one heck of a ride :thumbsup2

BIG TIME. :sad2:

ERICA!!!!

HOW WAS YOUR BENDY VISIT????? :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

It was adventerous! Brenda says she's boring in person, but if she is, then that means we are equally boring because we all had a great time! Jason proved himself as the master of the self-taken portraits, here we are outside of Tokyo Dining:

If you see these four people heading your way, beware.....

There is quite a story that went along with this photo, and the whole evening, but I will wait until Brenda gets back before I go there. Don't want to spoil her TR ;) We had an awesome time together, sharing sake and Pomegranate Kir and talking politics. And Lionel and Jason got to meet their long lost twin selves!

TR Update incoming, I promise.

Day Two, Castaway Cay! Also known as Sunday. But who keeps track of things like that?

Before I start on Sunday, let me tell you that I am an old lady. I know, I know, 33 is not exactly pension age, but I ain’t no spring chicken either. In fact, I can’t tell you the last time I made it through a New Year’s Eve party without falling asleep at 10:30. And yet? I stayed up late almost every night of this cruise. I just wasn’t tired. Did I sleep in to make up for it?

Of course not. Unless you count 7:30 as sleeping in.

I had almost forgotten how dark the rooms onboard get when the curtains are closed, especially because we have a habit of closing both sets. When I woke up, wide awake, I was worried because I thought for sure it was still the middle of the night. Somehow in the pitch black cabin (I forgot my night light. DOH!) I found my digital watch and hit the bright button.

It was 6 am.

Crap.

Not the middle of the night, but close enough. I was beyond going back to bed, so I stumbled around the cabin a little bit. Mickey was scheduled to wake us up at 7:45, because we had a breakfast date with Mat and Sarah at 8 am up on deck.

I don’t know if it was my loud clumsy steps or my equally noisy struggle with the verandah door, but Lionel was awake shortly after and we both stomped around like zombies until I got the bright idea to call room service and order up some life-bringing elixir, otherwise known as a carafe of coffee. We enjoyed this on the verandah, and watched as the sun lit up the horizon.

What is that island off in the distance, it looks familiar.....
000c8bcg

Mickey called at 7:40, and then again at 7:45. Did he think we hit snooze? This would happen EVERY SINGLE TIME we set a wake up call. By now we were pulling in to the island, and the sun was almost completely out.

Hey look, it's that ship from the movie! Oh, wait, that was two TR's ago.....
000c90yx

We called Mat and Sarah to re-affirm our breakfast date, and were assured that everyone was up and moving, and mostly human. We had one last peek out the verandah window before heading up, and we saw rain.

RAIN.

Hasn't Disney figured out how to control the weather yet? Seriously.

Lionel looks out at the weather. Seriously? SERIOUSLY?
000cat58

Yes, seriously.
000cb15b

Every single time we come to Castaway Cay, it rains. When Mat and Sarah cruised DCL by themselves in March, it did not rain.
I hate them.
Ok, I don't hate them. But, I can only conclude that the weather is all our fault. Yes, everyone, I apologize in advance if you ever come on a cruise with us, because it will undoubtedly rain at Castaway Cay that day.

If it keeps up, we can always stay right here.....it's almost as good.

Fortunately, it didn’t last long. It was enough, however, to get every chair in the outdoor dining area up at Topsiders a bit wet. No matter, we were all in our bathing suits anyhow. But we were void of Mickey waffles. There were NO MICKEY WAFFLES on the buffet.
It was a travesty.
Sarah and I consoled ourselves by eating enough fruit to kill a small child, remeniscing about the Mickey waffles of previous sailings. They would make an appearance later in the cruise, but it just wasn't the same.

As we ate, we noticed the island seemed…..a bit empty? We weren’t sure if we were blind, or if people were just not streaming out like usual because we had another day lined up at the end of the week. In either case, we were a bit surprised, considering this was the day they had shortened on us. Instead of the usual 4:30 all-aboard, we were given a deadline of 3:00.

Cruel, cruel DCL.

All the same, we felt no rush to hurry off the boat. We had no excursions planned, only some lazy time at Serenity Bay. We headed off to respective cabins to pack our day bags, and headed out to paradise at about 9:30.

Sunblock? Check! Book? Check! Smiles? CHECK!

The Magic, looking regal.....is that a hidden Stitch or an anchor?

Lionel and I had booked the extreme getaway package, which seemed like a great idea at the time, but really…..we could have gotten by with a two-day snorkel package and one day of bike and float rentals. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to do all three in one day, but we were hard pressed to fit it all in AND have time for cocktails. And as you know, we have our priorities. We stopped to grab our snorkel gear, and hopped the tram to paradise.

Really, now.....this is like the "this coffee is hot!" warning at McDonald's!
000cgkhd

By now, the day was gorgeous. Not too hot, not chilly at all, just the perfect temperature. We hosed our pale Canadian friend down with sunscreen and headed for the surf.

A word to the wise: don’t be tempted by the first chairs you see, walk all the way to the end. Do it!

This is the first year that we have walked all the way to the end of the beach before settling in chairs, probably because this is the latest we had ever arrived at the beach and nothing else was left. But it couldn’t have worked out better! The shore is much rockier toward the beginning of the beach, and our area was mostly sand, which meant I did not have to wear my sandals in the water. THAT was nice. Also, it seemed deeper where we were. Not enough to be over my head, but enough to feel like I could float without perpetually dragging my rear end over the bottom.

Lionel even floated:

After 37 years of sinking, finally success!
000ckw1g

There is a story here. You see, Lionel has never been an excellent swimmer, mostly because his Mother struck the fear of God into him if he ever went near the water as a child. Sometime in his youth, someone threw him into a pool and he sank, never having learned to swim. He did finally get a lesson in the army, but has never been comfortable floating in the water.....until now. I was VERY proud of him. He was happy too, and would have floated all day if the lure of lunch had not dragged him from the crystal blue waters.

Snorkeling at Serenity Bay was nice and relaxing, though we didn’t see much beyond the occasional lost-looking fish, and a few sand dollars. Oh, and the BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. Can’t forget about that.

How I spent my day at Serenity Bay.

What? It counts as a foot picture.

All in all? We had a blast. And this was before the Konk Kooler!

Another day for you and me in Paradise. Phil Collins never spoke truer words.

Next up: Sarah finds the ultimate sun block, and we start the drinking process.

Well.. that's enough reason to not go on vacation with either one of you!!!

Erica... don't mention the rain on the Tortola thread... :rolleyes1

& I've decided... after looking at the pictures... you and Bendy have the same chin... I think you're all related... :upsidedow

Gasp! I thought I was the only one who noticed that. Just who do they think they are trying to pull a stunt like that?!?! :sad2:

This is probably one of the best DCL pictures I have ever seen! Love it!!!

LMAO....Phil Collins.......<snort!>:lmao:

Oh no rain :umbrella: but at least it looks like it was short lived & you enjoyed the water & a nice day after all. :thumbsup2 Every time I have been to CC it has been rainy & chilly & the last cruise we were diverted by Noel so we didn't even make it there. I am DUE a day like you had on CC.

Love the picture of your feet & the beautiful blue water!!!!!!!!!!!
Ready to commence the :drinking1

Just another beautiful day in Paradise! I'm glad it stopped raining for you. Just for you. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the newest installment!

No need to worry about rain at CC next September. We've got a whole passel of good weather/travel karma folks in my family and they're all on the cruise. :thumbsup2

I've been lurking in your TR ever since you started, and it's great, as usual!:thumbsup2 We've never been to Serenity Bay. We've always hung out on the family beach with the kids, but after a few Disney cruises, we've found that the kids don't really need (or want) us anymore. Maybe we'll check it out this time.

We're heading for the Magical DD in less than six weeks, so your TR is getting me very excited! Can't wait to read more!

Also, I'm still wondering where you got that cool Mickey that hung on your door?

Susan

I llllooooovvvveeee that feet in fins in the blue, blue water pic. Gorgeous. I cannot wait to go there. Great installment!

Castaway looks awesome.
Ok, Jay and Lionel together is scary.

i tried to stay at CC but the cm found my hiding spot and sent me to the ship:sad2: i thought it was a good spot but after the 2 for 1 spec and several buckets of beer my judgement may have been clouded a little bit:) dont worry about not having a sailaway drink as long as you made up for it during the 7days i was on the wonder while you were on the magic and for the first time ever i made it to the boat drill sober:upsidedow excellent trip report
