Geeks go for broke! Updated 2/17: Wrap-up

I was hoping by now I could say "I got my cruise documents" like many of my other fellow passengers, but no. The UPS man hates me. I am always the last to get my stuff. Might have something to do with the wasp nest on the front porch which we keep forgetting about since we always come through the garage, hmmm?

I did, however, get something wonderful in the mail from a dear friend. See, when we originally booked this cruise, Mat and Sarah were not the only couple joining us. You might remember Steve and April from my first TR back in 2006? Sadly, when the housing market and economy took a turn for the worse, they had to cancel out. But not before April had already invested some time and talent into a door sign......

I got a message from her the other night, asking for my address. And a few days later, I got this:

How great is that? April, you are awesome.

I still have a few more things to do before the cruise, the main one of which is to secure a larger stash of ginger chews. Target was OUT today. What kind of crap is that? I mean, I have a little pack of about 12, but I'm fairly certain I'm going to need more than that. Just sayin'

World Market, here I come!

Other things on the list:

• have formal dress altered (should probably do this pretty soon, eh?)
• buy *mumble mumble mumble* for last Secret Mickey gift
• print door sign (it is done, and new ink has been purchased.....just need to print that sucker up)
• read the Passporter again! Time to refresh those tabs

that is quite possibly the coolest door sign I've ever seen ... with the notable exception of that elaborate and scary Chinese dragon we saw on a deck 5 cabin door back in 2005.

so, are you planning on booking a 2009 cruise while you're on this one? I mean, there's some pretty cool people and some wacky, plush, green toys cruising in October 2009 and what with that onboard booking discount and onboard credit you guys could have a fine fine Eastern cruise next year. the guavaberry emporium alone is worth the price of another cruise!

Have a great trip and we look forward to seeing you in October ... with a working cell phone and a drink for each hand!

Now that you mention it...one of the things i can't get over about the states is that most of you guys, if not all, get mail on SATURDAYS. Mon-Fri only out here.

Of course for *some* reason DCL uses those BROWN guys.

Actually though there is a lot of talk
of dropping back to a 5 day delivery week. With gas what it costs.....every time it raises one penny the USPS loses another 7 million dollars.

Well, you know.....that's what you get for still living in Canada. BTW, Mat seems to think that if he goes to class on Saturday morning, we will wait for him to return before we head to the port. I told him he is free to drive out there whenever he wants, but WE will be leaving at 9 sharp.

We ARE booking at 2009 cruise.......in October.......BUT, its going to be a three-day. Know why? My friend is getting married on CC on Halloween! How awesome is that? I don't know if I can convince Lionel to do TWO. I have however convinced him that we need to be on (at least one) one of the inaugural cruises when the new ships. So you have about.......a year or two to convince Jay of the same!

Well, I was going to print my door sign yesterday and realized......I do not have photoshop on my PC. We have it on Lionel's laptop, which he uses for work, but not the PC. Which is hooked to the printer. Yes, I CAN print from the PC regardless, but for some reason the printer likes to crop images, and is cutting off the bottoms of two of my smaller signs.

I'll figure something out today.

In other news, we hit WDW yesterday for the first time in almost four months. Between being busy and not wanting to melt, we let it slip for so long that I was starting to get twitchy. So, in the rain, we brave both Magic Kingdom AND Epcot. I have the character gummies to prove it.

OH! And we each bought a special hat for Pirate Night. You'll just have to wait and see the photos.......

Drea - character gummies are basically gummy bears in the shape of Mickey, Minnie, etc. We got them and three pieces of fudge at the candy shop at the entrance to MK.
Calories consumed at Disney do not count. Clearly.

In other news, I did finally get my door signs printed! So, in addition to the cutest door sign ever (the Mickey body parts, curteousy of the lovely April), we will also have these:

I ended up putting an X over Lilo and Stitch, and Lionel said "Why did you cross that out?"
"Because, dear, it is OUR romantic escape at sea. Not theirs."
He shrugged, and then demanded that I keep my hands off the sign until it dried. Men.

I also printed our cute little logo:

Lionel: "I thought that was a copyrighted image?"
Me: "err.....our printer doesn't know that....."

I have 29 more days of my Photoshop trial, and three more sheets of magnetic paper. I KNOW we have enough for the door. I really do. But.....it's all right there! I could do so much more! After seeing the wistful look on my face, Lionel informed me again that we have enough.

*sigh*

I am only slightly concerned about theft. I don't think anyone will take the Lilo and Stitch, and I don't think anyone will take Mickey's feet, but I fear that the rest will be up for grabs. I'm a little jaded because on our second cruise our Castaway Club magnet was stolen from the door. Though, to be fair, no one has ever taken our dry erase board. I guess I should just relax about the whole thing, eh?

Oooooh.....that reminds me.......we need a new dry erase board! One more thing to buy. I also need to find a pirate shirt for Lionel, because after buying headgear, he was suddenly in the mood to dress up for Pirate Night! I don't know, but I need to jump on this before he changes his mind. More things to do next weekend.

Why not today? Because I have a whole bunch of new writing assignments to do. Someone's gotta pay for Mama's massages......
