I read in the Disney Files magazine today that the GC will be allowing some regular resort rooms to be used for DVC members (with points) begining this spring. Does anyone have any more details on this? I am on a wait list for a studio at GC 09/03-09/09 and was wondering if there might actually be hope for me because of this.

Is this different from the announcement made recently that members will once again be able to book GCH rooms on points as we did before the VGC were built?

I've read somewhere on a thread here that that was supposed to begin around Sep this year, but have not seen anything official with the date.

It's the same thing.

No word on exactly when it will be available and how rooms will be priced.

Will these rooms be considered studio villas or resort rooms when determining point requirements?

I would imagine the rooms will be resort rooms and the $95 fee will apply.

I doubt the $95 would apply, as it doesn't for the other DLR hotels.

And this would be excluded for resale buyers correct?
Correct. This would be considered part of the Disney Collection, so points from contracts purchased via the resale market on or after March 21, 2011 cannot be used to book these rooms.

It is confirmed that they are part of the Disney Collection? Since there is a long waitlist for VGC points, declaring some of the hotel rooms as DVC would put points on the market (similiar to VB inn rooms).

Yes, it will be part of the Disney Collection. There are no plans to add additional rooms at the Grand Californian to DVC.

And expect the costs to be higher than the typical villa. Right now the lowest season price for a VGC studio is 129 points per week--with all rooms having either a theme park or pool view.

When GC was last part of the Disney Collection in 2009, low season prices ranged from 198 points per week for a Standard View up to 239 per week for theme park / pool view. (Concierge rooms were also available for an even higher price.)

It will be interesting to see what point values they come up with. By the time this option is available we will be more than 3 years removed from those 2009 rates. DVC may try to cut members a break on the hotel room costs but given the inner workings of the exchange program (rent villas to pay for cash trades), they may have no choice but to charge similarly high rates.

DISboards is amazing. So many people that know what they're talking about. I guess even if something comes available for my dates the points they want from me are going to probably be considerably higher than normal studio rooms.

I guess I'm staying at the HoJo and renting out my points as an alternative...
