Hi. We are scheduled to take a trip to Disneyland in February. We have stayed before at the Disneyland Hotel and then our second trip was at the Hyatt. We loved our "Disney" magic when we stayed at DL and enjoyed walking through Downtown Disney, but the money saved was great too!. The beds at the Hyatt were amazing.

Right now, I have confirmed ressies at GC and hojo. One for $259 and the other is a Disney view for $74. I have 3 girls - ages 6,7, & 8. Thanks for any input you can give.

Well, I don't know if this helps, but I can tell you that the rooms are smaller at the GC than at DLH. We have stayed at both. I don't know if I can categorize that one is better than the other, they are just different. We have kids and they love the bunk beds, so we prefer the GC. I love it because I really feel like I am at a resort and it is so beautiful. :lovestruc It is so nice just to hang out at the hotel.

We have gone in Feb before and it was warm enough to swim and the kids love the pool at the GC. Since it was too cold when we stayed at the DLH, we never went swimming there, so I cannot compare the pools for you.

We haven't stayed at HOJO, but I have only heard good things about it and boy, the price is soooo much better! Good luck on your decision.

We just got back from staying at the HoJo for the first time a few weeks ago. The hotel itself is very nice, especially for the price you pay. The walk isn't very far and Mimi's Was a great place to eat. Our only complaint was that the beds were a little hard for our tastes. Actually they were very hard. And for us, there is just a little more Disney magic when you stay at a resort property.

We actually checked out 3 nights early at the HoJo and went to the Disneyland Hotel for our last few nights. For us, we enjoy staying at the resorts hotels, it just immerses us in the whole Disney experience. The monorail directly to Tomorrowland and the walk through DD was always a great way to start the day.

We just stayed at HOJO for our first time in Building #2. We really liked the hotel and as said the walk isnt so nice after a long day in the park. But Mimi's was GOOD VERY GOOD. We ate there 3 times during our stay. We had a room over looking the pool area which was nice and quite and we were able to see the fireworks from the window in the hallway. So it was nice.

I also debate your same question. I have been to DL many times in the past few years, staying only at the PP, GCH and once at HOJO's. We were actually very impressed with the HOJO hotel - the rooms seemed huge and I thought they were great!!! That being said though, like you, my only complaint was leaving the magic, walking along a busy street with lots of traffic, walking past the bus stop...I know all of that seems dumb, and it is hard to put a price tag on - but I did notice leaving the "magic" This was last June, I have since stayed at the GCH in OCT, and have PP booked in Jan. I did try HOJO again as the price can't be beat and the hotel is great, but the rooms were only $20 cheaper then PP, so that decision was easy. If HOJO can let you enjoy another trip sooner - I would do that - but if you have the $$$ it is really a tough choice.

I would also look at the days you are staying - could you benefit from extra EE by staying at the GCH...and how many nights....$180/night is going to add up quckly!

We've gone three times. Once we stayed at the BWPPI, another at the Carousel, and this last time, we split our stay between the PPH and the GCH. We've always been the types that thought budget was better, because we can use the money elsewhere. We've also often poo-hooed those who comment on how important service is. After this trip, though, we are converts. We would rather go less often, or stay for less time so that we can afford to stay on Disney properties! We LOVED it! It was quieter, and less hectic than the "strip" and we love the Disney service. We really felt pampered and special, which we never really thought mattered when you're on vacation... (I mean, you're on vacation, right?) We are completely spoiled, now, and want to always book our future trips at resorts such as the GCH. We truly enjoyed it, and wouldn't go back to staying off-property unless we absolutely HAD to! We finally understand why some people say there is no substitute to staying with Disney. Hope this helps!

I have stayed at the DLH, GCH and the HoJo. I honestly won't stay at the GCH again. The room was tiny and really the best thing about the hotel was the location and the lobby (which I can enjoy even if I'm not staying there). I enjoyed my room and experience at the DLH much more.

The HoJo has larger rooms (which you will need with three small girls) and I understand they are in the process of changing out all their beds. We just stayed in the queen suite in November and had the new beds. They were really nice. They also have the nicest off-site pool area. The walk is very manageable, and if you cross Harbor at Clementine (right in front of the hotel), you can walk down the Disney side of Harbor and avoid crowds.

I'm a loyal fan of the HoJo (no surprise to most here), but am trying the CCI in April. I'm looking forward to comparing the two.

Good luck with your decision.

CCI is very nice and we enjoyed it as a couple. With 3 kids, I would make a different choice. The rooms at CCI are tight.

Wow. Thanks for the great responses. We are struggling, and now I am beginning to think about switching some time midweek. We shall see.

It's a tough call to make for someone else, since it really depends on what is most important to YOU.

We enjoy staying onsite, but worth $185 a night more? I'm not sure.
:confused3

I will echo the fact that we found the rooms at the GC to be very small.

I think the room we had at CCI might have been a tad bigger, but I'd still classify it as cozy.

Certainly a consideration with a 3 kids in a room. Been there, lived that. ;)

You'd definitely have more room to spread out at Ho Jo.

Good Luck - I hope you find whatever option you go with to be the perfect choice for your family!

I guess one day I'll stay onsite, but really I'd rather spend my money in the parks than somewhere I sleep .... :confused3

We stayed at the HO JO with the disney view room back in October. I loved it. For the price it cannot be beat. My kids are only 4 but they LOVED the pool. WE liked Mimis next door to eat at for b-fast. I say stay there and put that money you would have been spending to use on some great suveniors.

The service at HOJO is fantastic!!!

I am staying at the Disneyland Hotel how far is Mimis from there?

If I were you, I would save the money and use it for something great at the parks. Especially since it seems the HOJO is supposed to be really great for its price. I stayed at the Grand Californian and for the price was completely unimpressed. I had stayed in other hotels in the Anaheim area throughout my youth (due to an annual convention I attended that was non-Disney) and I thought a lot of those $150 a night rooms were significantly better than what I experienced at the Grand Californian. The rooms were pretty small, as has been said previously. The service I experienced was nothing to write home about. And, what REALLY took the cake was when instead of a rollaway bed for our fifth person (who had been reserved for) they brought up a SLEEPING BAG. I am sorry, but $300 a night to sleep on the floor? That's just insulting. I thought that maybe things had changed between then and now and that things had gotten better. I warn everyone I know not to waste their money there, but a few months ago my one friend's family did not listen. They felt that they needed to find out on their own, especially since they normally LOVE The Disneyland Hotel. After the fact, they completely regretted it (and I think it cost them even more than the $300 a night I had spent). Now they tell anyone they know to save their money.

We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn back in June during our first trip to DL after many trips to WDW (staying onsite, mostly). I know I'm in the minority around here, but I was completely unimpressed and will probably only stay on-property from now on. It was just felt like we were staying in any motel in any city.

hmm well We are going in april and I have not decided where to sleep either. but hearing everyone talk about the CG it seems that the extra $ may not seem worth it except for the closeness of the park.. hmmmmm

Hi,

We ( 2 adults 2 teenagers) are going the end of April into the start of May. We were considering the HOJO the BW Park Place and Candy Cane. After lots of research and reading tons of reviews on trip adviser we have decided to stay at the Candy Cane Inn. It seems to get great reviews, looks cozy and pretty. I like the idea of a shutttle in case I don't feel like walking. The pool seems nice in case the boys want to go for a swim. I like the continental breakfast included to help save a little money. The thing that made me nervous about the Hojo is the traffic noise from the Highway. Don't want to hear that. I guess time will tell once we go if we made the right choice :)
