Gaydays 2010 itinerary/meetup schedule!

just wanted to update that I have requested to use some banked PTO hours on Sunday so I can attend DATW. It seems like the most people are planning on attending that, so hopefully I will also be able to!

Not to be a buzzkill, but I really hope you all don't expect much dancing at Rix's lounge. I am sure the company will be fantastic, but if you wanna dance, go over to ADH, or even better, go off property. I, for one, will not be giving a dime to Disney for alcohol.

So my schedule is open early part of the week. I work till 7 every night, off Wed and Thurs so I'll try to get out as much as I can.

Fri I wanted to do the TL party but it looks like I won't have the cash for that.
Sat MK and Pulse at night. Anyone is invited to come, I should be able to get us on the list so we don't pay cover.

Sun - hopefully DATW at EPCOT. Otherwise I suppose I might be able to make it to phouse after work. Don't they usually have a foam party?

Nice, hope you are able to make it for DATW. Seems like it's going to be a great turn out!!!

OK so i have to ask.
zulemara If you hate Disney so much why do you still work for them?
You have a job that some people would kill for.
You drive a boat its not a hard job and disney pays you for it.
Just asking:)

I don't hate Disney, I love many many aspects of the company. However, I am strongly opposed to the decision they made and the fact that their bold new vision has consisted of removing stairs, creating a lame street party, and removing the old PI live booth and catwalk. Without going into extreme detail, I have a big emotional connection to PI and my bitterness about them closing it will never go away. To that end, on the basis of principle, I encourage people who want drinking and dancing to go to the places where that is openly accepted, and that is the reason for my signature. I'm just simply warning people that Rix's is not exactly known for dancing, and ADH is a perpetual wedding.

As for the boats, yes, I do enjoy most aspects of the job. I like driving boats and such, but like any large corporation, there are problems with management. I just shut up and do my job though, because every department in every company has problems. I work the front lines so that SOMEBODY is keeping Walt's dream alive.

Good god RIX has a dance floor and music -
so what is the problem with it exactly?

And yeah it sucks they closed the clubs at PI-
they did - it's done- move on!

I don't think walt's dream was a bunch of drunks making his guest feel unsafe when on Vacation.

Well, there goes half the WDW management :rotfl:

In all fairness, Walt was a bit of a lush, a womanizer, and a heavy smoker.

And I dont know about the parks, but I can tell you from personal experience that the resorts are being run into the ground. It's so bad that they are cutting budgets to the point where CM's are given rationed out plastic ware for their lunches, and commodities like coffee and tea are kept under lock and key and have to be requested by management.

CMs are told they shouldn't do anything special for guests if it costs any money, unless it is to help make up for a major issue. It used to be no problem to help make magic by getting plush for the kids in a family or ordering flowers for newlyweds, but now it has become a big no-no (even though all product comes from WDW sources).

I still love going to WDW, but I've seen a major decline in services and morale in the past 5 years or so.

Atlantic Dance Hall after Victoria Falls? ADH probably won't start moving until 11pm anyway.

I get all that and i understand, every company has to make cut backs.
My company is doing the same no overtime and no raises, but im not going to run out and tell people don't spend your money here. If i did that i would be out of a job.

... Also I kinda hurts to hear trash about Disney.
I mean I'm not delusional - I know there must be a down side.
But when someting you love getts denigrated it kinda stings.

I am pretty sure when you work for a company it completely changes your perception. None of us are naive enought to think it is all magic and pixie dust behind the scenes. It is sad that there are cuts being made, and it is sad that those cuts are impacting both employees and guests alike.

I am certain the internet makes it harder to maintain the level of service people expect. Think about it. One person posts that they got a balloon. Another one got a card AND a balloon. Well, I want a card, a balloon, AND a cupcake or I am going to rant and rave and post that my vacation was RUINED! It seems people feel entitled to more than they paid for, and if they don't get it they throw a fit.

In the past few days I have come across threads asking if it is OK to stay at MVMCP if you didn't pay, if it is OK to bring people into the concierge lounge from regular rooms, and all sorts of other tacky things. :sad2: And if people are bold enough to ask, there is no telling how many people are already doing it without asking. And you know no matter how many negative responses they get, they are going to try it.

I am going to pretend I don't know any of these things and just try to enjoy my vacation with my family and my friends. Contrary to popular belief, I am not that high maintenance. ;)

I don't think walt's dream was a bunch of drunks making his guest feel unsafe when on Vacation.

well I disagree, the idea was for fun of ALL ages and that includes adults having fun in an adult way. There was security all over the place anyway and the drunks weren't the ones causing unsafe enviornments. Since the closing of the clubs, McDonalds has been robbed, multiple break ins with cars, and they found a guy in a bathroom with a concealed firearm. PI was not the reason to feel unsafe.

I miss my rotating dance floor, awesome light show, and pounding techno, my 70s and 80s songs completely with Thriller, and the awesome improv at Comedy Warehouse, and that will never go away.

key point here "adults having fun in an adult way"
It was the PUNKS, THUGS and GANGS that made me feel unsafe.
When disney opened PI to Kids, Teens and under's thats where they screwed up. I miss PI too bit i don't cry about it every day and tell people go spend your money somewhere other than disney.
Disney has a lot of places to go and have fun in a "adult" way.

Sorry but I disagree. For those adults who enjoyed PI there aren't many alternatives. At least nothing like what PI was. Disney's current alternatives feel like consolation prizes. They're the runner-ups who only have the title b/c PI was closed and no longer able to fulfill its duties.

Disney has a lot of places to go and have fun in a "adult" way.

No. It really doesn't. And it sucks.

But it's been nearly two years.

I miss Pleasure Island as much as the next guy, and more than some. Heck, NOBODY misses the Adventurers Club as much as Scott and me.

That said, it's time to LET IT GO! All being bitter and whiny about it accomplishes is annoying the rest of us.

Perhaps Disney will do something to rectify this huge mistake, maybe it won't. No use wasting energy worrying about it.

I'm reminded of a line in a fantastic show we saw at the Orlando Fringe Festival this weekend: "Make like a nail, and press on"

Okay, so the show was "The Great American Trailer Park Musical", but still, it's a great line. :rotfl2:

Something I still don't understand about why PI closed is that beverages of the "liquorific" kind are marked up so much in clubs (especially in touristy areas, like WDW) that it's hard for me to understand why they weren't doing well from a financial perspective. I mean......the guests were more than willing to pay for the drinks, right? :confused3 Even drinks of the non-liquorific kind have an insanely huge mark-up. (Last I checked I think most places mark up Coke and Pepsi products about 400-500% of what it's actually worth which leads to an insane profit.)

I agree with Wally about it being a harsh reality. The last time I was at WDW there were several random cast members who made it blatantly obvious that they either were being mistreated by management and/or they simply did not want to be there.....and that really affects the "magic" that once was because you start to feel sorry for these people. :guilty:

PI was profitable, but the management decided to remove the adult element after complaints of "unsavory" people.

Of course anyone who frequented DTD could tell you that unsavory element was focused around the Virgin/AMC area, but who cares about details?

And to Rob: Yes it has been almost 2 years, but at the same time the average guest can only visit WDW every 5-10 years. It's old news to us locals, but even the week before I and the company parted ways I had a family who was upset because they didn't know it was closed and had planned part of their vacation around PI.
