Gay marriage; for or against?

I'm for gay marrriage.

On the "married to a wall" story, yes I did mention that. She's now having an affair with a garden fence... i'm not lying.

You can. John Barrowman is against gay marriage, when he's gay himself. From Wikipedia:

'Despite this long-standing relationship, Barrowman told Scotland's The Herald newspaper that he had no plans to marry, saying, "Why would I want a 'marriage' from a belief system that hates me?" However, he and Gill became civil partners on December 27, 2006. As Barrowman explained when the couple were interviewed by Attitude magazine, the couple do not want to call this a marriage: "We're just going to sign the civil register. We're not going to have any ceremony because I'm not a supporter of the word marriage for a gay partnership."'

They still have the legal rights of a straight couple though, right? So that is what I am talking about. Gay people deserve the same legal rights at straight people. You can't say "I'm all for gay relationships" if you can't support people having the same rights. It doesn't make sense. People say I have nothing against gay people but they don't want them to have the same rights?

Religion. The Catholic religion is against marriage, but they are ok with relationships, even though they don't like it. "Marriage is a bonding between a MAN and a WOMAN"

Yea, well I have issues with Catholics and their "rules".

My friend is Catholic and is against it all. You can't support it if you don't think it's natural, I don't understand how you think it's immoral but you still support it.

I think killing is immoral and I don't support it. Typically people don't support things they find immoral.

Oookay then, she kinda scares me. Honestly..like..I can't even describe how creepy I think that is. She won't go all the way with humans but she will for a wall..what the eff

She's probably mentally ill. That is the only explaination I can think of for her behavior.

I have a problem with Catholic "rules" too

That's why I don't support most of them

I was just throwing it out there that strictly Catholic people would be that way

It's not just strictly Catholics. It's a lot of ignorant people.

You are calling me ignorant? I am extremely offended! I have my opinions too!

I was talking about people that follow the Catholic "rules" closely

..What does that mean, In a decent way?

Anyway. Because of my religious beliefs I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. I don't have anything against gay relationships. I just don't think they should be allowed to marry since gay relationships are less common than straight relationships. If that makes sense.

Just a question, but if we were talking a Civil Marriage, as in one held at a courthouse or the town hall would you still be against it? Or is it only marriage as in the sacrament of matrimony that you're against?

This is just me being curious, I don't mean to start anything.

So now my beliefs are ignorant? Hmmm.

Wow, to be honest I've never even thought about that...You're not starting anything you've actually made me think a little more about this.

I don't know how much of this is going to make sense, but I think that any form of gay partnership I guess, where they say they're "married" by a judge or something is wrong to me.

I don't know, I'm going to have to give it some more thought based on the situation you gave..

Just because they are less common than straight relationships? In the United States, blacks getting married are less common than whites getting married. Does that mean that they don't deserve the same rights too just because it's less common? That makes no sense.

You also can't be for gay relationships but against gay marriage. If you are for gay relationships, why wouldn't you be for marriage? You are acknowledging that gays have relationships yet you don't think they should be able to marry?

Yes I can. The sacrament of matrimony or marriage is between a man and a woman. Not a man and a man, or woman and a woman. My cousin (who I'm not close with) is gay. I have nothing against him and his boyfriend being together, they can't get married so it's fine with me.

Religion. The Catholic religion is against marriage, but they are ok with relationships, even though they don't like it. "Marriage is a bonding between a MAN and a WOMAN"

::yes:: Yep.

Personally, I don't take much 'sacredness' into getting married.
Actually, I love the idea of a wedding. The celebration of people in love bonding together forever and all of their friends and family witnessing it.
However, that's what I think. People celebrating love.
I don't care who's marrying who's marrying who.

I think religious matters SHOULD STAY OUT OF LAWS. We can make decisions that are right for an entire nation without throwing religion into it. Otherwise, we might as well instead of having people represent certain areas, be representing different religions and them all having one big debate on who's religion is more moral.
-insert eyeroll here-

marriage has never been a strictly christian ideal.
there should be a true separation of church and state, since evidentally the catholic church sets the rules on marriage. equal rights for everyone. if you're "married" by the church you shouldn't have any breaks financially, just like unmarried gays in a relationship that are unable to be married.

it's just wrong.

God made us attract to the opposite sex. God made us that way and i support God. Thats how God wanted it to be. If gay marriages where supposed to happen God would have made it that way.

I do a lot of theatre.
I encounter many gays/lesbians and also befriend them.
It's not my place to judge whether or not what they do/who they love is wrong.
I don't however believe the church should be forced to be any part of the marriage. If the church doesn't want to marry gays, they shouldn't have to.
But, go ahead. Get married gays. It's fine with me. It doesn't hurt me and it not my place to judge.

If you don't like gay marriages, then don't have one and just ignore the people who do. Just because you don't like someone of the same sex, doesn't mean that other people don't!
Can you give me one reason why it should be illegal?
And no, the "traditional wedding is between a man and a woman" is just ****.
And just because the bible said you can't, doesn't mean that you really can't.
You know what else it said?
Anyone who works on Sunday's shall be killed. My mom works on Sundays sometimes, and she's not dead.
Not everything in the bible is true, so that's not a reasonable argument either, especially since I could then argue that god does not exist.Marriage should be legal to everyone, not restricted to some.
I beleive everything in the bible is true. It's a resonable arguement, except for you don't believe that it's all true.
I could argue that he does exist. And we could debate. And I hope you were a little open-minded that I could change your beliefs.

Oh I totally agree that if the church does not want to marry gays, they shouldn't have to.
It would be nice if some churches for it, as some gays they grew up being very religious and have probably dreamed of getting married in a church like a lot of people do.
But it's not the end of the world if they have to find a priest and do their wedding elsewhere.

Open minded? Yes.
Change my beliefs? No way.

If I can't convince you to think gay marriage is right, how are you going to convince me it's wrong? We've been over this many times, it's clear everyone will stick to their guns and not budge.
