Gay marriage; for or against?

Open minded? Yes.
Change my beliefs? No way.

If I can't convince you to think gay marriage is right, how are you going to convince me it's wrong? We've been over this many times, it's clear everyone will stick to their guns and not budge.

I wasn't referring to changing your beliefs about gay marriage. I was talking about believing whether or not there was a God.

My bad for the misunderstanding.

The church shouldn't have to bend it's beliefs to accomodate certain people. I think that gay people should be given the same rights as straight people but I don't think the church should have to accomodate something that they think is wrong. :confused3

So, if Gay Marriage was legal, it should not be allowed in a religious institution

I don't think the churches should be forced to marry a gay couple because it goes against their religious beliefs but maybe some churches would. If gay marriage does become legal everywhere I don't think a court marriage should be the only offered marriage.

Some churches would. Like my church. My priest is gay. :D
But the crazy-people churches would have a collective fit if they were forced to.

Its plain and simple:
It's not God's word.

I'm a Satanist. God's will doesn't apply to me.

How do you know that god doesn't intend for gays to get married? What if, in his grand schema, gays are supposed to struggle to get the rights they deserve? If they are given the right to marry, will that automatically become "god's will" and you'll be okay with it? Because if it happens, then he must have willed it, yes?

I would never force a church to marry somebody they didn't want to. It isn't my place to tell a certain religion what to do. I just like challenging beliefs and such. I will never, ever, dictate to a Christian church that they must marry gays. I would never force a Buddhist to kill something. I would never keep a Muslim from praying 5 times a day. I would never keep a Jew from having a bat (or bar) mitzvah.

I do believe that gays deserve Civil Marriage rights, though. As in: it's in a courthouse/town hall or elsewhere (like a lake or something) with a legal official presiding. A marriage recognized only by the government and not necessarily by the church.

I've always viewed marriage and matrimony as two different things. One is a binding of love and the other is a sacrement that happens to include the attributes of a marriage.

But hey, if there was a church out there that wanted to marry gays, all the more power to them.

Mm. "Crazy-People churches". Nice choice of non-offensive words there, eh?

Next time, think before you post. And find a better word than 'crazy-people churches'

Umm, wow. I really don't see how that's offensive at all.
Just calm down a little... if she said "those *****-*** churches would have a fit", then that would be offensive, but crazy-people churches?
I just don't see how that's offensive...

My church would have a fit if they had to, and she called those churches "crazy-people" churches. Since I am a member, I am a crazy person now?

You could be, but I wouldn't know, why don't you ask yourself that question?

I think she was just saying that there's some churches that would just go insane about it...

::yes::

I'm talking, like, WBC crazy.
Most churches would just be like "no."
But churches of that level would be like "NOOO" and then proceed to burn things down and picket funerals. :l

Oh, yes those would be crazy-people churches. You don't burn stuff and such over this.

If a gay couple asked WBC to marry them, I honestly think they might be killed. WBC is way over the top and...insane.
