Gay Days?

Did the OP say anywhere that she was against what she saw? I can see being surprised and wondering about it if you're from a conservative area. We live in one now and while I get tired of the attitudes here, I do understand that some from this area sometimes don't have a clue.

I do believe that Sjaakie is from Holland. The Dutch have such a wonderful live-and-let-live philosophy.

People should be free to have their own beliefs about marriage without being considered "narrow minded". Freedom is freedom and should be a two way street.
I agree 100% UNTIL those people try to make rules that others who don't agree have to follow.

I reckon Gay Days are a good time to go. Attendance seemed considerably lower at the start and end of the day and we didn't see any PDA or inappropriate behaviour (just one very inappropariate message on a t-shirt. So glad DD didn't ask what it meant!)

I don't think OP was worried about "normal" gay couples, but rather large groups trying to "make a statement." I don't think it was an issue of being anti-gay. Whenever a large group of any type converges on a place there are reasons to worry. It is the outlandish behavior of any group that makes them a pain to be around. For example, many of you complain about the cheerleaders, and I'm sure several people choose dates that don't include the cheerleading events, but I'm sure there are also well-behaved cheerleading groups.

BTW...to OP, I have been during Gay Days and I would much rather go that week then when the cheerleaders are there :goodvibes

Yes! Snogging should be away from the parks regardless of lifestyle. A little peck fine, but full on frenchie french - Heck to the NO!

I haven't been in the parks as often as some here (more's the pity!) but I've never seen anything more 'explicit' than handholding and a little peck, from any mix of sexes. I tend to rather think that people who get all shocked and appalled are perhaps exaggerating what they see, and are possibly motivated by internalized bigotry. :confused3

To be perfectly clear, I don't want to see ANYONE of any gender sticking their tongues down the throat of anyone of any gender either :rotfl:, but I've truthfully never seen an example of that at Disney.

Now....college is another kettle of fish :rotfl:

This would be oh-so-true. Except for the part where the people with those beliefs try to stomp all over the rights of the people who think those beliefs are hogwash ;)

If you don't want to be gay, I fully support your right to be straight!

Now, someone needs to tell me when the cheerleaders come. Because that sounds like a nightmare. :rolleyes1

I'm not advocating any rules disallowing gay marriage. I'm not against gay marriage. I'm against suppression of individual opinions or beliefs even when those opinions or beliefs are not PC.

Agreed!

Are we agreed? I used a lot of poorly defined pronouns. It's possible we are not agreed at all :rotfl:

7 years ago I just HAD to get away. Even though I have a rule.....no disney after mid-May (too hot).....I booked a single weekend and was off. Well, of course, it was Gay day weekend.

Having some pretty terrific gay friends, I especially liked seeing the Gay couples with their families - or the small groups simply having fun. Sure, there was one group of 4 who were forcing some sort of point....but they went away.

NOW....even better.....there I was standing in line at BTMRR. I started talking with a tall New Yorker behind me.....wearing a red shirt so I assumed he was down for THE weekend vs me down for the weekend.

We really hit it off and hung out together the next day. I exchanged phone numbers with the harmess gay guy and headed home. When he got
home....he called me EVERY DAY!!! I couldn't figure out why this GAY GUY
was calling me.......until I discovered, he had no idea about Gay Day weekend
and red shirts. He wasn't Gay and we are now coming up on our 4th wedding
anniversary later this month!!!!

Another Gay Day weekend story.......

My cousin belongs to a very conservative church in Tennessee. The choir had
been asked to sing at WDW. It took months for the fund raising and before
they left, someone decided it would be nice to have matching Tee shirts
printed.

Nope, can't make it up.....a church group trained to HATE gay people arrived at WDW for Gay Day Weekend wearing.......RED tee shirts.

....and who says there isn't a god!!!!

psssst.....I don't care if you do not support gay people, it's your choice. You DO have to admit the story is funny!!!!!

That story of how you met your husband is the topper of all toppers! Thanks for sharing.

And I say the same thing, AMAZING story!! ;)

They are normal people.:goodvibes

Denise in MI

I think that was his/her point ;)

As a straight person, I feel decidedly hackly when I hear people refer to "The Gays" or "The Homosexuals". You get the feeling that they'd say, "The Rabid Beavers" or "The Badass HoneyBadger" with much the same tone. :rotfl:

Don't tell those other "normal people".

We went to the marriage of our neighbors. Back in those golden days when all our hairs were blond and black.:thumbsup2
As years went by we also went to there 25 anniversary, went to the marriage of there son and the last marriage we visited was a few years ago when our neighbor married his friend.:grouphug:

I am not saying my opinion one way or another, although I do think some questions and comments are more, "typed first, thought later":rolleyes1, but I do think this is hilarious and I think the story of you and your hubby is one of the most adorable I have heard in a long time!

I haven't read through this whole post so I'm just adding on to the end, but I thought I would say I was in Magic Kingdom this past Saturday during Gay Days. There were a lot of people who turned out for Gay Days, they were mostly wearing red t-shirts. My son noticed a lot of people are wearing red today, my daughter didn't notice anything. Some of the shirts said things I thought were inappropriate like "I like it on top" but I would say 98% were harmless. I will continue to say that hand holding was the most outward sign of PDA that I saw.

Now that I have first hand knowledge of Gay Days, it's really not anything to worry about!
