Gatwick Airport / Hilton info

[A whole new world]

Hi,

Were going to be going from Gatwick airport next year instead of Manchester where we normally go from.

We are planning to stay at the Hilton attached to the South Terminal. As were going up by taxi the night before is there any restaurants before checkin that we will be able to eat at?

Also does the Hilton have any rooms that have a runway view?

Not sure about a runway view but there is a Frankie and Benny's and I think a Wetherspoons pub/restaurant before check in.

No real runway view - one side you can see some planes. The Sofitel has the better views.

Before security now there is Giraffe and Weatherspoons. There is also a pub in the North terminal which is easy to get to by the transit.

there are a lot of rooms that have a view of the planes coming in to land or that have just taken off. The views tend to be in the new wing where the delux rooms are. We were in the Hilton in the 5th October and we had a good view of the planes coming in. We also ate in the Hilton and had a buffet meal. It was good if not a tad expensive. The terminals have hardly any restaurants nowadays and DH and I think its because they don't want people lingering around and just want you through security to airside. You can get to the other terminal by monorail but even that doesn't have much choice!

There isnt a frankie and bennys before departures anymore it is now Giraffe. We ate there last night and it was really nice.

We also stayed at Courtyard Marriott which is cheaper than Hilton and you can walk from this hotel to the airport on the path, takes 7 minutes. We paid £90 including parking for 15 days

Interesting about the Courtyard Marriott though, might look at that for our stay.

I ate at the Hilton's Garden restaurant in September, wasn't too bad, if a bit pricey. They do do a buffet there in the evenings for £25 I think.

We have stayed in the Hilton numerous times. Check their prices carefully though as they dont add on VAT until the very last stage. If your looking to book wait until January because they normally have a big sale every Jan. Last year it was 50% off. I got a room with full buffet breakfast for £70 (Including VAT).

Quite often they also do deals which include the buffet dinner too. If not its only a few mins stroll over to the giraffe and weatherspoons.

That was a good offer. I shall be checking myself in January now for our flight in Sept 2012.
We also always stay at the Hilton, have stayed in the one connected to the other terminal but found the room too small and claustophobic! Have stayed out of the airport but like the fact that the Hilton is connected to the terminal and you can just have a walk about. We normally book the park and fly combi with the option of an upgraded room if available. Last time a few weeks ago we were upgraded from a delux to a delux with access to the Hilton lounge where there was complimentry food and drinks in the evening and also continental breakfast in the morning!
