Our family, consisting of my husband, myself and three kids have visited Gatorland three times in the last three or four years. Thoroughly enjoy each visit there. Its clean, relaxing, and a "tad more laid back". Certainly something in between going to the theme parks. For people with children its something most parents wouldn't have to be told, but do not let your children CLIMB the railings overlooking the gators. Our last trip down a dad was inside paying for everyone to get in. The son strolled past him out on to the wooden boardwalk overlooking the alligators. He climbs up on the railing and kneels down on the four by four post to get a better view of the alligators. The child was about 9 yrs. old as his mother stood back taking pictures of him. I looked and saw there was no safety net in front of him and if he had fallen in that would have been it. Gatorland has taken every protection to ensure everyones safety. However some adults can't or don't choose to read the signs that say "don't let your children climb the railings". This particular mother was oblivious to the danger her son was in and as I was about to turn to her, a employee came running over frantic and said "let me show you what would have happened to your son had he fallen over". He took out a few weiners and threw them in. The alligator went in a frenzy. He said, that ones called Oscar. He said if your son had fallen in, he said there wouldn't have been a thing any of us could have done to save him. This alligator was about 14 feet long. Knowing childrens curiousities, I always know where my kids are and explain to them why they can't climb the railings. And we have never had a problem. I guess some parents should come with a "book". Otherwise, its enjoyable, The canteen at the far end of Gatorland sells drinks and food. If you buy the collectors cup (approx. $2.25) it costs only a quarter to refill it with pop over and over. They have great wildlife shows (snakes, alligators), a train that circles Gatorland, a bird enclosure where you can actually go in and feed them as they fly all around you. Its a really neat place. You'll enjoy it.
