I am a GB patient 3 years out and can eat pretty much anything. My question is although appys are no longer on the food plan does anyone know if you can order an appy for main course at a TS? And would it help if I presented my card from my dr? We plan on getting the DDP but I know that there will be times that all I can handle is soup.
Thanks!

Yes, you can - and you shouldn't need any proof. It has been posted on this board, earlier this year, by either a server or someone who is friends with several servers, that Guests ARE allowed to have an appetizer AS their entree.

Hi there - I am 5 years from my surgery date and have used the DDP for the last two trips, that is something I never thought of:confused3 , what a wonderful idea. I always feel guilty leaving so much leftover food when we are done due to the fact we go back to the parks and I cannot carry my leftovers around for a few hours. This year, I will do that!

I am so glad you posted this. I will be 1 year post op when we visit. My problem is sugar. Any time I eat more than a small bite I dump. So does Disney offer any sugar free options. I hate to waste but dont want to carry a food package around the park so my family can eat it later.

Thanks for the replys!:)
I unfornuatly do not have the problem of dumping! Sugar is not a problem for me except that I can eat it.
My DH and I learned early on that appys work for me and if I want to try something off his plate he lets me. Last time we were at DL I tried carrying around half a Monte Cristo and we found out the hard, icky way that this does not work for us!:scared1:
Good luck to those of you going home and if you find any other ideas that work for you, please pass them on to me!
Happy Easter!

We are a group of 5 (baby doesn't count for ddp) going this August and I planned our non-buffet meals to only use 4 credits. That way we have 2 spare credits that I will use to take the littlest one to the castle for breakfast.
The 2 meals that are menu meals, I will just steal a few bites from everyone and I'll be full without wasting food, dessert and more importantly...credits!

Lap-band...not RNY...but same idea :)

Sheli--
Have you done that before--not using all your credits? Just be sure you check your credits every time so they don't take the one ts per person by mistake.

I am 5years out DS and my mom is 4yrs out RNY, we ate very well but I take issue with the DDP being too much food--yeah, it is too much food at one sitting but I eat a little bit every few hrs, I left so much food only to be hungry a few hrs later(did free dining), lol. the last time we went we didn't get the ddp but spent nearly as much money total anyway... I'm not complaining, had a wonderful time!!!

As far as sf desserts, I think you have to ask for them, I am at least hoping for some fresh fruit options. the only desserts I even cared about particularly were at LeCellier, oooh baby my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Most of the time I prefer the appy so I probably will ask to switch, esp if the salads are not part of the meal, i like my salad. We will do ddp in Sept if free, if not we'll just pay for food oop.
have fun!!!

ehrn- We did the meal sharing last time before I got my band (2 years ago) on the DDP too. Last time we were with my parents for a lot of meals so we had 6 adults and 1 child but only ordered 5 adult We saved 4 credits over the 7 days and used them to do a no kids dinner one night (thanks mom!) and another night my parents took the boys to a dinner show and we took the baby to meet Cindy at 1900 PF. We just left an extra tip for the extra work the wait staff did in splitting the meals and we still left almost stuffed from every dinner.

This time the teen boys eat more and I doubt there will be much leftover food, but I know there will be enough for me to share (heck- I only eat 1/2 a cup of food most meals!)

:)

Good idea about ordering appetizers as your meals. I do that a lot now when we go out, but I didn't think I could do that at WDW. I just had lap-band surgery in November. We will be in WDW this Nov. during T-giving and I worried about DDP etc. Decided to get it anyway, share when I can and eat what I can at buffets and not worry about it. Some days I can eat more than others, so I don't know what it will be like next Nov. may not get a fill too close to vacation, so I can enjoy my vacation without worries. It will be a little over a year since my surgery and I am hoping to be at least 100 lbs down by then. It will make touring and riding a lot easier.

BTW, congrats to all that have had surgery and keep up the good work. It's sometimes hard work and this is definately NOT the easy way out.
