Gas Prices

$3.99 in NW Ohio!
I got lucky and filled up Monday for $3.51 by my parents when picking up my children which was good because it was already $3.99 out by where I live.

Around here, the cheaper places (Wal Mart, Race Trac, etc.) are about $3.50. The upper cap of the more expensive stations is about $3.75.

It's $3.99 here in Michigan today. :scared1: Thank goodness we traded in our gas guzzler for a diesel Jetta.

I just drove by the gas station, it's up to $4.09.

Imagine how much disposable income americans would have to spend on other things if gas was back to $1.75 a gallon. In my house alone we would have an additional $300-$350 a month to spend on other things, that's $4000 a year give or take. We are just one household, imagine the change in the economy if they would just lower the price of gas.

I don't get this kind of reasoning. If you're only buying 5 gallons it cost the same whether you are driving an economy car or a Hummer. It's like that commercial for Toyota that says "luckily she was driving a Corolla so she could get to the next gas station." All that means is there was still some gas in the tank. Any car can still have some gas in the tank. Some people will believe anything.

Sure, it costs the same, but I think you miss the point. How far can you go? At 15 mpg in a Hummer, that 5.5 gallons of gas I bought yesterday would take me 81 miles, or about one days worth for me. OTOH, the Prius took me 295 miles on that same 5.5 gallons of gas. Still think it doesn't make a difference? If it doesn't to you, then by all means, drive a hummer and complain about gas prices all you want. I won't have much sympathy.

It makes a huge difference to me. I look at the price per mile. In the hummer, the price per mile at 4.00 a gallon (for easy math) is about 27 cents per mile. In the Prius, at 50 mpg (less than I routinely get), it costs 8 cents per mile. I think that's a difference worth talking about.:cool1:

man, i think California is gonna have $5 a gallon very soon... would be $60 per tank for me... 12 gallon tank. :sad1:

went from $4.10 --> $4.50 in the past 2 days...
Some gas stations are closed due to no supply.

We just moved back to the US and bought two cars in the past week. Today, in Southern California, I paid $4.41 for regular and $4.61 for premium. That was the cheapest station we saw - most were closer to $4.70/$4.90.

There are a lot of supply issues going on in CA at the moment (and we are still using the summer blend), explaining the ridiculously high prices.

For some reason gas has been plummeting here in Missouri. It has gone from 3.79 to 3.37 in 2-3 weeks. I have no idea what is behind the sudden drop especially when others are saying their gas is going up :confused3

Went to 2 different stations today. I got gas for $4.17 and then I used my $.20 off at Safeway and paid $3.99. I have seen it for $4.49 around here. Bleh :crazy2:

In orange county... friends are posting on facebook that no gas available at a lot of gas stations... only premium...

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!! THIS ISNT SUPPOSE TO BE HAPPENING!!!

Our gas prices have stayed pretty steady the last month or so, right around $3.89.

Gas prices here are averaging about $4.05/gallon. I did see on the news last night that somewhere in California there was a gas station at $5.69/gallon for regular. :scared1:

$3.39(9) ~ an hour West of St Louis for regular, $3.89(9) for diesel.

3.49 here in Southwest Ohio today! I used Kroger rewards and got 0.10 off! It's really sad when you get excited about $3.39 a gallon!

Yep. And a few are out of gas. The Costco we usually go to was locked up b/c they have no gas and don't know when more is coming.

Just paid 3.58 for regular on Wednesday.

Putting premium in the fun car is getting painful. So much that I drive the cheap car almost exclusively these days.

I've read that in CA they may be rationing gas soon.
Anyone live through the 70's and long gas lines? Not fun, let me tell you.

By the way, it's time for me to duck again. It's $3.29 here. But less than 10 miles away out by the freeway it's $3.59. Over at the truck stop it's $3.79 for Gas and Diesel is much much more. But you get a free shower and a free hot meal at the restaurant with a fill up. It must be a good deal comparatively because the place is always full of trucks.

But the price of gas is often affected by the economy. It was nice to see plummeting gas prices 4 years ago. That is, unless you were one of the 800k people a month losing their jobs or one of the countless more thinking they might be next. I'd much rather be dealing with today's gas prices with over 5 million more new jobs and unemployment down below 8%.
